Warwick Boat Club - Autumn Court

TENNIS TENNIS TENNIS TENNIS Court Circular Since our last update in July, we have had a great finish to the summer tennis season and a strong start to our Autumn season. Members of Warwick Boat Club helped us secure a set of accolades as the main competitive season ended in August - Harry Lazell won the U16 British National titles in singles and doubles, Richard Partridge won the Warwickshire County Closed Men’s Singles, and Arran Trainor won the Warwickshire County Closed Men’s and U18 Doubles. Our Men’s Coventry & Warwickshire Premier League Team won the league for just the 3rd time in our history. These and other team and individual successes are reported throughout this Court Circular. At the same time, the liveliness and spirit of the Club continues to be very healthy. Attendance at all our regular mix-ins has been continuously strong, team tennis and events are well-supported, and well over 100 of our 800 tennis members participate TENNIS www.warwickboatclub.co.uk Tennis captain’s report in coaching. In short, we are a thriving club! I am particularly pleased about the work we are doing to introduce children to tennis - the Tennis for Kids campaign and the on-site coaching at Myton School run by WBC are two excellent initiatives. At the same time, our new “Beginners Pathway” is enabling adults new to tennis to develop their skills and enjoy their tennis in small and large groups. Our coaching team are to be congratulated for the work they do to help us all enjoy our tennis and our time at the club. Another group to say thank you to is the Tennis Committee. This is the last Court Circular before the Tennis AGM on November 7th when we will elect a new Tennis Committee for the coming year. This year we have been working according to our new tennis constitution that we adopted in late 2017. We have had 10 well-defined roles, and each person has put a lot of effort in to operate the club and improve the club ultimately for the benefit of our members. I would autumn 2018 like to say a big thank you to each of the Tennis Committee members and look forward to delivering our 2018 report on our broad range of impressive achievements at the AGM. In the next few weeks a notice will be issued for the AGM, explaining the resolutions we will vote on and asking for nominees to Tennis Committee positions. Looking ahead I’m very excited about WBC remaining successful and becoming even better. We are focused on how to develop our club’s facilities to the highest possible standard, how to offer opportunities for players of all standards to get the most from their tennis, and how to ensure we have a sustainable and mutually beneficial coaching programme in place between WBC and the local schools. It’s an exciting time! If you’d like to get involved in making WBC a “beacon of tennis for the region” please let me know. See you at the courts!
