October 2018

October 2018 The American Society of São Paulo the FORUM monthly newsletter Spooky Fun Awaits for Halloween by Judy Zanchi, Vice President Witches, ghosts, and goblins BEWARE! Spooky fun is in the air! Halloween, candy, and costumes! What could be more fun? Mark your calendar and buy your tickets now! It's time for our Annual American Society Family Halloween Party on Saturday, October 27 th from 3 to 6 pm. Let’s continue to make this fun AmSoc Halloween tradition exciting and safe for our little ghosts and goblins. This year we will be at an exciting new location: the São Paulo Yacht Club (SPYC) on the shores of Guarapiranga Reservoir, an easy 15-minute drive from last year’s location at the US Consulate. What a beautiful setting for all of our planned activities, with great finger food to be provided by SPYC, a haunted English Pub so the adults can pick up a special brew, plenty of easy parking, and a kids playground! This will be a great chance to meet new friends as all SPYC families are invited to participate in the party, too! We will have a fortune teller, Monster Mouth bean bag toss, a giant spider web, cotton candy, and so much more. Join the fun! Children, parents, and grandparents are all welcome. Costumes are encouraged for everyone. We will have trick-or-treating with favorite American candy for children 13 and under, Halloween-themed games with prizes, spooky music, and dancing, continued on page 5 SAVE THE DATE Oct 10 Happy Hour Oct 27 Family Halloween Party Nov 13 WomenWork Nov 18 Thanksgiving Service Nov 22 Thanksgiving Dinner Dec 08 Angel Party Give Old Items a New Home by Kristy Miranda, CAC Chairperson Have you ever had something just sitting around your home taking up space? Why not donate it? Our charities LOVE our donations! As the Community Action Committee Chairperson, I want to thank you, our members, for remembering our nine charitable organizations. I periodically receive calls and emails from members looking for ways to donate items they are no longer using. We can help you! Please remember us the next time you see something sitting around your house in working condition but no longer being used. We can always find a new home for it. Please contact the next time you have something you would like to donate. § Cover image: Instituto Itaú Cultural Courtesy of: Pixabay
