What is the FAW Regions Cup?
The six area associations in Wales contest the FAW Regions
Cup on a bi-annual basis. Each association selects
a squad comprised of amateur players from within their
respective areas.
Two groups are formed, with Central Wales FA, North
East Wales FA and North Wales Coast FA forming one
group, and South Wales FA, Gwent County FA and West Wales FA comprising
the other.
Each team meets the others in their group home and away in a round robin
format, with the two group winners meeting in the final.
What is the EUFA Regions Cup?
The UEFA Regions' Cup brings together the best amateur
teams in the continent.
Each of UEFA’s National Associations can nominate their
domestic Regions Cup Champions for the competition,
which occurs every two years.
39 Associations entered the 2018/19 competition. 12 enter at the Preliminary
Round stage, with the remaining 27 entering in the Intermediate Round.
Italian representatives Veneto won the inaugural UEFA Regions Cup
competition on home territory in 1999.
Notably, the winners in 2014/15 season were Eastern Region from Ireland,
with players being selected from the 2 nd tier of Irish football.
The accolade of representing Wales 18/19 fell on South Wales FA, who were
2-0 winners in the FAW Regions Cup Final against North Wales Coast FA in
April.
Associations are ranked according to their UEFA coefficients, computed
based on results of the last three seasons to decide on the round their teams
enter the competition and their seeding pots for the preliminary and intermediate
round draws. The top 27 associations enter in the intermediate round,
while the bottom 12 associations (ranked 28–39) enter at the preliminary
round.
The draws for the preliminary and intermediate rounds are held in December
at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The mechanism of the
draws for each round is as follows:
14

In the preliminary round, the twelve teams are drawn into three groups of four
without any seeding.
In the intermediate round, the 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four.
Each group contains one team from Pot A, one team from Pot B, one team from
Pot C, and either one team from Pot D or one of the five teams which advanced
from the preliminary round:
Preliminary round Group A winner will be assigned to Group 1.
Preliminary round Group B winner will be assigned to Group 2.
Preliminary round Group C winner will be assigned to Group 3.
Preliminary round best runner-up will be assigned to Group 4.
Preliminary round second best runner-up will be assigned to Group 5.
The three teams from Pot D will be drawn to Groups 6–8.
For political reasons, teams from Russia and Ukraine will not be drawn in the same
group. The hosts for each group in the preliminary and intermediate rounds are
selected after the draw.
Regions' with no team entered:
Format
In the preliminary round and intermediate round, each group is played as a roundrobin
mini-tournament at one of the teams selected as hosts after the draw.
In the final tournament, the eight qualified teams play a group stage (two groups of
four) followed by the final between the group winners, at a host selected by UEFA
from one of the teams.
In the preliminary round, intermediate round and final tournament,
the schedule of each group is as follows, with two rest
days between each matchday, except for between matchdays
1 and 2 in the final tournament where there is only one rest
