St Mary Redcliffe Church Parish Magazine - October 2018

The children were
accompanied by parents
and grandparents.
On 8th August our
theme was Ships and
Sailors. The story of
Jonah and the Whale was acted out with appropriate sound effects, after
which Andrew Kirk led a great music session. The songs were very active
and involved lots of rowing and jumping up and down! There was another
treasure hunt around the church, this time looking for objects relating to
sailors and merchants.
Children got in touch
with their inner engineers,
designing boats
using corks, sponges or
junk and testing them
in large boxes of water.
Plasticine boats were
made to see which
shapes could carry
the most marbles. The
origami boats were a
surprise hit, but they
did get very soggy!
The family activities
proved to be a huge
success. As they left,
parents and grandparents
asked when we
were next going to put
on more family events.
The sessions were enjoyable to plan and to run.
They could not have taken place without the hard
work and commitment of the talented volunteers
who helped me to set up and run these events
— we are always happy to welcome new people to
our small yet beautiful team! Please let me know

in the workshop of dieric bouts the elder in the mid-15th century
