Maverick Partner Appreciation By Landon Stogner photos by Bill Middleton As the saying goes, “I couldn’t have done it without you.” That surely holds true with all of the events we do, whether it’s driving tours and rallies, drivers’ education, tech sessions, or monthly dinners and coffee socials. None of those events would be a success without the teamwork of our club volunteers and advertising partners. To give our appreciation for all of the hard work throughout the year, we held our First Annual Maverick Partner Appreciation Celebration. Thanks again to one of our sponsors, Park Place Porsche, for being gracious enough to open up their Dallas dealership for this first event, which allowed our Maverick Region Board to play host to a casual buffet breakfast. We had 50 attendees from our group of 73 volunteers and 36 advertisers join us Saturday, September 15 for a country style breakfast which included all the trimmings, from fresh fruit and eggs to biscuits and gravy. All thanks to Low Country Cuisine for providing the food, a Bubbly Bar of different flavored Mimosas, and of course coffee and juices. This was just a way for us to give a big Thank You to our members who volunteer to be early and stay late at our events to help setup, parking, and cleanup as well as for all of the behind the scenes organization that goes into coordinating each and every event. All of our events have grown in size over the years, so another big Thank You goes to our advertisers, who 22 October Above: President David Robertson says a few words of appreciation, Jack Griffin with BJ Harvey, Tours Volunteer, Bill Kruder with Scott Oakwood, Debi and Bill Kruder with Patrick Huston Park Place Porsche Dallas General Manager. One such recognition goes to Louden Motorcar Services for their continued advertising support of a full page ad in Slipstream for 40 years (look for it on the back inside cover). Each of our volunteers and advertisers departed with a personalized Certificate of Appreciation and a limited edition car window decal. It cannot be said enough: Thank You to all for what you do. If you’d like to assist in future events, please reach out to our Volunteer or Advertising Chairs to find out how you can help. As always, Driving Friendships is Fueled by Volunteers.
Autocross Event 6: Mirrorcross at Mineral Wells By Mark Schnoerr, Region Autocross Chair photos by LightSpeed Images A nice overcast day instead of the showers we were having all week greeted 85 participants for Autocross Championship Series Event #7 at the rolling Lone Star Park location. It was nice to be back in town and at a favorite site. A huge circus tent consumed a quarter of the lot but the expert crew were able to lay out an exciting course with many elevation changes. He was putting in some terrific times in class P1. The Wong Brothers, Ronald and Hubert, brought out their 997s again and were going after classes P2 and P3 wins. In class P2, Alex Tambert brought his new Cayman S out for himself and Brett Durham to wear out some old tires that came on the car, taking the top spots in class. In P3, Owen Coulman finally took the heat-cycled-out R-compound tires off his car to move back into P3. We also had two new drivers in this class: DE participants out for their first Autocross, daughter and father, Kristyn and Bert Starr. Kristyn was paying attention and made great strides. She was already closing in on Owen and could keep him honest if she stays at it. Father Bert was flying right away and got lots of in car instruction as well as ride-alongs that helped a lot. Class P4 was the Mayo 911S vs the Schnoerr 914 2.0 with two drivers in each car. Sigrid had the class covered and was about to skirt both Ed and Mark after morning runs. A final banzai run put Mark first in class. Father Carey and daughter Geneva Spreen brought the family VW GTI to this event instead of the usual 924S or 911SC. Good to see them taking on the regulars out there. Owen was first quick performance index Porsche, followed by Mark and Sigrid in From top: Kristyn Starr 997S, Mark Schnoerr drifting 914, Bert Starr being coached by Owen Coulman in his 991 the family 914. Kristyn and Sigrid both were in the top five women performance index at this event. Watch the calendar for the dates of the last three events and join us at Lone Star Park.
