GILLINGHAM & SHAFTESBURY GUIDE
Welcome to our October 2018 Issue.
Amidst a modern culture where there are so many career opportunities, the likes of which we have
never known including virtual and digital worlds, Gillingham School are hosting their Next Steps (pg
6) evening. This is not exclusively for Gillingham industries or school children, but for those in the wider community of
North Dorset. If you would like to attend contact the school directly.
Are you charged with organising the Christmas festivities take a look at the Olive Bowl (pg 15) and the Coppleridge (pg
12) both advertising their Christmas Parties, highlighting the fact that Christmas is just round the corner. If you have
an event coming up let us have details early if you wish us to put it in the magazine. If you are joining the above venues
or any parties over the coming season please remember to leave the car at home. Chart Taxis (pg 11) now have several
vehicles including a 6-seater to drive your whole party home.
The Organisers of Gillingham Community Christmas Meal will be starting to put together this year’s event so please
start thinking about what you can do to help if you wish to be involved or if you know someone who would benefit;
donations for the meal, presents for the guests, setting up and clearing as well as on the day itself. Details will be on
the facebook page shortly.
Thanks to Steve Hawkins for his image of last year’s Mere Carnival which captures the colour and fun despite the
weather for our front cover. Our cut-off date for events and advertising is the 10th of October for the November issue.
Businesses please note that although we try to keep our charges to a minimum, with a large hike in printing costs last
July we will have to put our prices up from January. All advertisers taking out an ongoing package prior to this will keep
their current price indefinitely. Our readership is well over 14,000 and we also publish online https://vale-advertising.
co.uk/gillingham-and-shaftesbury-guides/ where you can see back copies if you missed them. We can offer great
packages to New Businesses and we do not charge for Community or Charitable events.
