on Sept. 26, at the age of<br />

75. Accomplished fireman,<br />

fisherman, sailor, and<br />

master harmonica player,<br />

Hart was the son of Mary<br />

Johnson Hart and Julian<br />

Deryl Hart (Deryl) of Durham,<br />

N.C. He was born in<br />

Durham on Sept. 14, 1943,<br />

the fifth of six children and<br />

youngest of three brothers.<br />

He graduated from Saint<br />

Andrews College in Laurinburg,<br />

N.C., in 1967 and<br />

later in 1970 from Duke<br />

University with a Masters<br />

of Hospital Administration.<br />

While at Duke, Hart<br />

had the foresight to request<br />

tutoring from a nice young<br />

lady he met on the stairsteps<br />

of the UNC-Chapel<br />

Hill library during a summer<br />

school session. This<br />

tutor – Elizabeth Ann Reitzel<br />

(Ann) – became his<br />

wife on April 27, 1968,<br />

and, in his own words, she<br />

was the secret to his success.<br />

Hart and Ann moved to<br />

Chicago, in 1970 where<br />

Hart became a hospital<br />

administrator at the University<br />

of Illinois Hospital.<br />

After 10 years, Hart ventured<br />

out on his own working<br />

for 38 years on the<br />

Chicago Board Options<br />

Exchange. Hart’s life was<br />

full of accomplishments.<br />

Most notably, he was the<br />

devoted father and grandfather<br />

to five children, two<br />

daughters-in-law, and two<br />

grandchildren of whom<br />

he was most proud. Other<br />

accomplishments include<br />

winning the 1992 first<br />

place float award at the<br />

annual Lake Bluff 4th of<br />

July parade, captaining<br />

ship voyages to the North<br />

Channel in Canada and the<br />

Dry Tortugas in the Gulf<br />

of Mexico, and loyally<br />

and faithfully serving the<br />

Village of Lake Bluff and<br />

the Lake Bluff Fire Department<br />

for 30 years. Hart<br />

joined the fire department<br />

in 1989 and earned the title<br />

of Captain in 2006. He was<br />

also a member of the Lake<br />

Bluff Zoning Board (1994<br />

– 1996), Chairman of the<br />

Zoning Board (1996 –<br />

1999), and Village Trustee<br />

(1999 –2003).<br />

His children and grandchildren<br />

will most miss<br />

his amusement at his own<br />

bad jokes, his mischievous<br />

pranks, his faithful rendition<br />

of “Happy Birthday”<br />

on the harmonica, and<br />

rides in his 1947 Ford fire<br />

truck, which he parked in<br />

the driveway in front of<br />

his home on Prospect Ave.<br />

He was a lover of the sea,<br />

boats, old cars, bad jokes,<br />

happy hour, and talking to<br />

anyone who would listen.<br />

He loved listening to music<br />

in the dark while watching<br />

the skies and the stars and<br />

standing under the eaves<br />

of the house watching<br />

while it rained. He was notoriously<br />

the last to leave a<br />

party and the first to offer a<br />

lending hand, and he never<br />

failed to wave at a passerby.<br />

His friends and family<br />

will remember him always<br />

as he taught us to live with<br />

curiosity, playfulness, confidence,<br />

grace, and joy.<br />

Hart is survived by his<br />

wife Ann to whom he was<br />

married for 50 years, five<br />

children, two daughtersin-law,<br />

and two grandchildren:<br />

William Naylor; Catherine<br />

Hart; Will Hart and wife<br />

Liska Havel; Mary Hart;<br />

and Jack Hart, wife Elizabeth<br />

Burkholder Hart,<br />

Ann Hart. He is also survived<br />

by his two brothers<br />

and their wives: Harvey<br />

(Deryl) Hart and Pascale<br />

Michel-Hart of Bow, WA,<br />

and John and Annie Hart of<br />

Phoenix, AZ, sister Margaret<br />

Hart of Ann Arbor, MI,<br />

24 nieces and nephews and<br />

countless friends in Lake<br />

Bluff, Chicago, North Fort<br />

Myers, FL, North Carolina,<br />

and beyond.<br />

“Gene” Frank Sikorovsky,<br />

89, of Lake Forest, died<br />

Sept. 30 at his home. He<br />

will be remembered<br />

as a true<br />

gentleman<br />

of the highest<br />

integrity.<br />

Sikorovsky<br />

was a retired<br />

general<br />

Sikorovsky<br />

counsel and a devoted contributor<br />

to the community.<br />

He was born Nov. 27, 1927<br />

in Jackson, Mich., to Frank<br />

and Betty Sikorovsky. He<br />

received a B.S. degree in<br />

electrical engineering from<br />

the University of Michigan<br />

in 1948, where he was<br />

President of the Michigan<br />

Union and a member<br />

of Michigamua. He was<br />

granted honors by Tau Beta<br />

Pi. Sikorovsky received an<br />

LL.B. degree from Harvard<br />

Law School in 1951. While<br />

in law school, he met his future<br />

wife Patricia O’Byrne,<br />

and they were married in<br />

July, 1953 in Kansas City,<br />

Missouri.<br />

Following law school,<br />

Sikorovsky was commissioned<br />

in the U.S. Naval<br />

Reserve as an active duty<br />

lieutenant with an early<br />

warning airborne squadron<br />

from 1951 to 1954 and<br />

was stationed in Quonset<br />

Point, Rhode Island. Following<br />

his military duty,<br />

Sikorovsky and Pat moved<br />

to New York City, where<br />

Sikorovsky joined the law<br />

firm of Cahill Gordon &<br />

Reindel. There, he practiced<br />

corporate, securities<br />

and banking law, becoming<br />

a partner of the firm in<br />

1964. After fifteen years<br />

with the firm, he joined<br />

Reynolds Metals Company<br />

in Richmond, Virginia,<br />

as Vice President, General<br />

Counsel and Director. In<br />

1977, Sikorovsky and Pat<br />

moved with their family<br />

to the Chicago area where<br />

he became Vice President,<br />

General Counsel<br />

for Gould, Inc. in Rolling<br />

Meadows. He later joined<br />

Bell & Howell Company,<br />

where he was Senior Vice<br />

President, General Counsel,<br />

and Director until his<br />

retirement. He was a member<br />

of the New York and<br />

Illinois bars and the bars<br />

of federal courts including<br />

the U.S. Supreme Court. In<br />

addition to his professional<br />

accomplishments, Gene<br />

dedicated his time to many<br />

non-profit and community<br />

endeavors and cherished<br />

opportunities to support<br />

those in need. He was a<br />

member of the boards of<br />

the Gateway Foundation,<br />

CASA Lake County, Presbyterian<br />

Homes, Career<br />

Resource Center, and Bravo<br />

Waukegan. He served<br />

on the Lake Forest Board<br />

of Education, and he was<br />

a vestryman and longtime<br />

choir member at the<br />

Church of the Holy Spirit<br />

in Lake Forest. Gene was<br />

known for his exceptional<br />

kindness, integrity, intelligence,<br />

humility and love<br />

for his family, extended<br />

family and friends. He<br />

was an accomplished violinist,<br />

and enthusiastically<br />

shared his lifelong passion<br />

for music with all.<br />

He is survived by his<br />

wife of 65 years, Patricia<br />

O’Byrne Sikorovsky; their<br />

five children Paul Sikorovsky,<br />

Charles Sikorovsky,<br />

Catherine Lachenauer,<br />

Elizabeth Sikorovsky and<br />

Emily DiMiceli; sons-inlaw<br />

Robert Lachenauer<br />

and Joseph DiMiceli;<br />

grandchildren Alexandra,<br />

Rebecca, Anna, Elena,<br />

Sophia, Julia and Elisa;<br />

and his brother Edmond<br />

Sikorovsky.<br />
