1921

The first fast food restaurant was White

Castle in U.S.

1963

First ever fast food restaurant, A&W was

opened in Malaysia, located at Jalan Tuanku

Abdul Rahman.

1982

McDonald’s opened

its first outlet in Jalan Bukit Bintang.

1948

McDonalds was redesigned and opened by the

McDonald brothers. Soon after, other fast food

chains that exist today opened too.

1973

KFC’s first outlet

located on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman was

opened.

1990s

Other fast food restaurants started franchising

in Malaysia. It is when fast food started to become

popular.

Fast Food Culture can be categorized as :

- A culture where people consume fast food as their major option.

- A culture where people just love to hangout at fast food restaurant.


This culture is practiced by mostly teenagers & young adults,

fast food restaurants are the places they often hangout.


In Malaysia, KFC and McDonald’s are two of the most popular fast food restaurants.

There are currently 271 McDonald’s outlets and over 600 KFC outlets in Malaysia.

In the past, a visit to fast food restaurant was reserved for special occasions like

birthday celebration and good exam grades.

Today, fast food is viewed in a different way and many people see it as casual dining.


A&W was the first fast food introduced to Malaysians

However, it is starting to be forgotten as other fast food chains becomes

popular.

This is the signature

A&W root beer float that

everyone loves.


IS IT GOOD OR BAD?

Eating too much fast food can

lead to cardiovascular diseases

and obesity.

Statistics shows that obesity

rate in Malaysia has increased

over the years and one of the

biggest factor is food consumption.

However, this culture is unique

in its own way.


People do not only go to fast food restaurant for their food, free wifi

with the best Internet connection might also be one of the reason.


Fast food restaurants are also a popular studying

spot for students as it is a place that opens 24

hours and has food.

It is also a perfect place to socialize with family and friends.


Drive-thru makes ordering process

easier.

At some places, you can see long

queues at drive-thru on weekend

nights.


Mc Café was launched in 2012,

serving coffee, beverages and

cakes.

This attracts more people to come to

McDonalds and encouraging fast

food culture.

It is a culture practiced by Malaysians regardless of race and

religion. In fast food restaurants, we get to see Malaysians

share their love for food together, learn and get to know each

other.
