Philosophy
The staff and parents are committed in creating a safe, positive, and
challenging learning environment for all students of Harvest Academy. We
devote ourselves to develop well-rounded global citizens and responsible
individuals. Students should strive to be self-disciplined and demonstrate
responsible behaviour in their capacity for self-management.
Our core values are that students be respectful, cooperative, caring,
responsible and challenged to do their best. In Harvest, students do not learn to
study, but study to learn. We believe that the desire to learn in students is a
fruitful asset that will fulfill their lives. We are to ignite the young minds of our
students and passion of lifelong learning for their personal and professional
development which both are interrelated intellectually, athletically and
morally.
Harvestians should always take the opportunity to contribute to the society, to
the world. We all play a part in our society. We learn from our society and the
kind of person we are consequently shape our society. We are to be responsible
of our words and actions, share our knowledge and joy to one another.
Remedial Class
The remedial class for the 2017’s intake was
held in December. Around 11 students
enrolled for the remedial class to prepare
themselves for the upcoming term.
Remedial class was initiated with the intention
to help out students brush up their English
language. Besides learning English, students
were also entertained as they engaged
themselves in class activity session at the end
of the day.
Harvestians during 2017 Teacher’s Day celebration
Teacher’s Day
Every year, on 16th of May, teachers are
celebrated for their hard work and their
contribution to the society in Malaysia. This
year, Harvest Academy also joined the
tradition to celebrate teachers. The
celebration was done at the community hall in
Taman Bukit Kaya.
Students from Year 9 and Year 10 were
entrusted with the whole event, assisted by a
few teachers. They work hard in planning
activities that can be enjoyed by their peers
and the teachers.
The day was filled with joy and laughter as
everyone truly participated and enjoyed the
activities.
Chinese New Year
FESTIVITY
Diwali
Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Harvest encourages unity.
Thus, students are given
exposure to culture
differences through
different
festivals
celebrated by different
culture.
To begin, we celebrated
Chinese New Year in
February. Students
decorated their classes for
the festival. Since 2017 is
the year of chicken, all
classes highlighted
chicken as the theme for
the decoration.
June 2017, Hari Raya or
Eidul Fitri was celebrated
where teachers brought
some of their favourite
traditional dishes to share
with the students, together
with the raya cookies.
Students got the chance to
taste the scrumptious feast
that is usually served
during Eid.
October on the other hand,
the students were given an
opportunity to learn about
Indian tradition, ‘kolam’,
an artistic decoration that
is usually done during
celebrations like Diwali.
Birthday should never be celebrated
alone!
So, Harvestians come together and
celebrate the birthdays of their
friends and colleagues.
The birthday boys and girls were
surprised with an unexpected party
and well wishes from everyone!
Last year, Harvestians went to Kedah for H-Explore. This year,
we decided to stay local. Therefore, H-Explore 2 was held in
Pusat Kokurikulum Tasoh, Jalan Kaki Bukit, Perlis, from 10th
to 12th July. We were lucky because the Obstacle course was
newly built and Harvestians were the first one to use it!
Unlike H-Explore 1, where teachers planned all the activities,
H-Explore 2’s planning were done with selected students
from Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, as well as the whole class of
Year 10. The students committee did an excellent job in
making the camp an enjoyable one!
Mother nature blessed us with great weather and we
managed to enjoy the activities that were planned.
Harvestians enjoyed kayak, flying fox, abseiling– which is a
nerve-wracking activity, cycling, where they enjoyed the leafy
nature as they cycled to Gua Kelam and many other fun
games that were organized by the teachers and the students
committee.
The highlight of H-Explore 2 was definitely the barbecue
party. Both students and teachers work together to prepare
the food. Everyone enjoyed a nice meal after a long and tiring
day.
Lee Jia Mu, from Year 9 and Rhay Tan Ru Wei were awarded
the Best Participant, while Venus was crowned the Best
House for H-Explore 2!
So, do look forward for H-Explore 3 in 2018!
H-Angels is a programme where Harvestians reach out to those who are in
need. Using the charity money that was donated through Honest Corner,
Harvestians decided to lend a helping hand to two Indian families and helped
them with their Diwali preparation. One family resides in Taman Bunga Padi,
Bintong, and another one is in Pangsapuri Seri Sena, Kangar.
We bought some necessities that are needed for Diwali and helped to clean
their houses. Some Harvestians also gave their personal contribution like
toiletries to the families.
Those who went to Pangsapuri Seri Sena entertained the young children and
taught them some English words.
Halloween marked the last event for Harvest Academy. The Halloween celebration
was done on the 1st of November, during the ECA class.
Harvestians dolled up and donned up their chosen costume on the day. The
celebration started with fun games where each house competed in an acting
competition. They were given 25 minutes to plan their storyline for a five minutes
Venus managed to win the judges’ heart and win the competition.
Then, they spent the time playing poison box and it was trully an enjoyable games as
everyone joined in the fun, especially during the punishment time. After poison box,
they mummified their friend during the Mummy Game and it was won by Jupiter.
Once the game finished, Harvestians were entertained by dance performances led by
Lee Jia Mu from Year 9 and Tan Ke Xin from Year 8.
Having fun with origami—Year 7
Origami is an art of making objects for decoration by
folding sheets of paper into shapes. So, year 7 decided
to have fun with papers and decided to do some
origami. With the guidance of their class teacher, Ms
Farah, they created different types of origami.
Some of them created ladybird, t-shirt, dog, crane and
many more. It is an activity to relax after they gave their
all in answering their final examination.
Everyone seemed to have fun as they fueled up their
creative juice after they created the origami of their
choices and decorated them.
Each piece of origami paper folded definitely portrayed
the colourful characters of the students in Year 7!

LOVE OR LIKE?
Feeling is something delicate and sometimes can be confusing. It is also a sign that
human beings are vulnerable and they are exposed to the wonders of feeling. Love and
like are both feelings, with a significant difference. Both are feelings of being
comfortable with someone, but love is deeper than like and it will never fade away.
Love and like are both the feeling of being comfortable with someone. If you like or
love someone, you will be very happy with that person. You will not be irritated with
him or her. In addition, you are willing to spend time with the person that you like or
love.
Love and like are quite similar, yet they have some differences. Compare to like, love
is much more deeper. Love is more than liking someone. It is a matter of the heart.
If you love someone, you are willing to sacrifice everything for that person. To love
someone wholeheartedly means that the person is extremely important to you. It is
impossible to stay away from the person that you love.
Love is a matter of the heart, which means that it will never fade away even though
you are hurt by the said love. For example, the love of a family is a complicated subject.
Parents still love their children unconditionally despite being hurt so many times by
their children and vice versa. Even lovers forgive each other when they are hurting or
being hurt.
In conclusion, love is much more deeper and complicated than like. It is a feeling that
talks about forever and being soulmates. Love binds people’s heart, while like makes you
be comfortable with someone and fancy someone, but not to the extend of sacrificing
your life for the person. Therefore, love is definitely stronger than like.
Breakfast is the most
important meal of the day.
Good breakfast will keep you
energetic and happy. Bearing
that in mind, Year 9 decided to
make sandwiches and shared
them with the teachers and
their peers.
Everyone came early to
school to start preparing egg
sandwiches. They made a
bunch of sandwiches to
distribute to the schoolmates
and teachers. The students
definitely had a good time
playing cook while preparing
the sandwiches.
NATURAL DISASTER
Do you still remember the catastrophic tsunami that
happened in Banda Acheh back in 2004? How can we
forget the Indonesian father who has lost his five
children at once? How about the one that corrupted
Japan in 2011? Or the Japanese old woman who cried
over the loss of her house and other belongings? Every
soul mourns and prays every single time tragic disasters
happen in any part of the globe. Tornados, volcano
eruptions, earthquakes and flash flood are a few of the
common disasters that have hit earth. There are many
things that we can actually learn from the occurrences of
natural disasters. Yet, we never learn anything from it.
After few months, or worse only after few days, we go
back to our ignorant life. God has sent his army to make
us realise of the oblivious life we are leading. God wants
us to repent, appreciate our life and the lives of others
around us and always be more prepared to face the
occurrences of natural disaster.
Repent is very important. After the natural disaster, we
must repent or regret what had we done wrong to cause
the natural disaster. Humans done many wrong things to
cause nature disasters. For example, humans burn forest
for buildings.
Apart from repenting, appreciating our life is also
important. If any disasters happen, never turn back to
take money. Do not hesitate and run for your life. Money
is not worth exchanging our life.
We also need to be more prepared for any natural
disasters. When you notice an obvious rise or fall in water
level, please run immediately. There is a huge tsunami
coming towards your way, remember to take enough
water or food.
In conclusion, we need to learn and never forget the
lesson we learnt from the natural disasters.
4 SIMPLE STEPS FOR
BICYCLE
SAFETY
Every year thousands of people are injured and
hundreds of people are killed while riding bicycles.
1
PROTECT YOUR HEAD
Always wear a helmet.
2
OBEY ALL TRAFFIC
LAWS & LIGHTS
Bicycles must follow the rules
of the road like other vehicles.
3
ACT LIKE A CAR
Drivers are used to the patterns of other drivers. Don’t
weave in and out of traffic. The more predictably you
ride, the safer you are. Check for traffic. Be aware of
traffic around you.
4
USE HAND SIGNALS
Hand signals tell motorists and
pedestrians what you intend to
do. Signal as a matter of law, of
courtesy, and of self-protection.
YOU ARE GOOD TO GO!
Stay safe
