THE OUTERWEAR

EDIT...

Elevate your Autumn look with outerwear that stands

out this season. We have everything you need at

rosypenguin and more. Come on in and step out of the

cold for our top picks.

FUZZ

Fluffy statement coats can be great for the party season and add

a real injection of glamour over that cocktail dress but they can

also look chic in the day. Choose a neutral colour and pair with

sneakers and flats. If you are not the tallest go for a bomber

style and pockets are a must.

We love Rino & Pelle’s animal faux £130 and Saint Tropez’s wine

faux bomber £119.95. For the wow factor, we cannot stop stroking

French connections oversize faux fur, gorgeous. £190.

SQUARE FOOT

We love our boots at rosypenguin and our new additions

are bang on with the square toe trend. Our favourites

are Cara’s slate grey suede knee highs £250. Perfect with

dresses and skirts .

To add a bit of shine to your winter, we recommend the

60s inspire Cara gold ankle boot £130, fabulous

with….well, everything.

OVERSIZED SCARF

For those days you are just not ready for your winter

coat, reach for a fabulous oversized scarf. Add a cosy

knit, cool shades, a great sneaker and you are

done. Our best finds are Saint tropez’s blanket

scarves £39.95 and our Danish Brand Inwear’s simple

puffa scarves. Genius.

TO FINISH

Go with a cute hat. It will totally save you on a bad

hair day and hey, we get plenty of those dealing

with Edinburgh’s elements. We love Numph’s felt

fedora £34 and our Rino & Pelle beanies with pop

off and pop on acrylic pom poms £38.50.

Jamie Primrose

Contemporary Scottish Artist

Stunning local views by the

well-known artist

walks, capturing atmospheric moments at

different times of the day and year.

From superb works depicting fleeting

spring-time flourishes of delicate pink cherry

blossom in the late afternoon (see pic to the

left) and towards twilight, he effortlessly

evolves to exuberant verdant tones of

autumn in a glorious warm, impressionistic

haze (see pic below). Then onto glistening

snow on the parklands – bathing in crisp,

clear winter light creating a subtle, soft

pastel-shaded palette for his alluring oils

(see pic to the right).

From Friday 2nd – Saturday 10th November

(dates for the diary), best-selling

contemporary Scottish artist Jamie Primrose

presents his latest gorgeous solo exhibition:

‘Sparkling Hues’ at The Dundas Street

Gallery in the New Town.

Having achieved past sell-out solo shows of

his stunning artworks and over 30 highly

successful new collections in Edinburgh and

London since 2003, the acclaimed artist‟s

investment original paintings and exclusive

limited edition prints are continually in

demand by a discerning, loyal and

expanding clientele in the UK and abroad.

Primrose is always captivated by the

ever-changing nature of light, especially in

the early morning and late afternoon when

the light, atmosphere and colours in the sky

change rapidly. As he lives locally (in

Marchmont), he often draws inspiration from

the visually stunning seasonal changes in

the Meadows and on Bruntsfield Links,

which we know and love (with a perceptive

flair for beautifully capturing local

architecture, including Barclay Church).

‘Sparkling Hues’ Exhibition

In his latest offering of over 50 ethereal new

oil paintings he firstly focuses on natural

motifs and „sparkling hues‟ – sunlight

glistening through the trees creating

shadows and patterns on the Meadows

‘Winter skies on Warrender Park Terrace’

Feature: Local Artist

Next, the nearby ancient crags of Arthur‟s

Seat are also skilfully portrayed from near

and afar throughout the seasons –

magnificent views from the Meadows below

and from Blackford Hill. Finally, Primrose

concludes his local journey by featuring

more natural elements as he uncovers the

hidden beauty of nearby Polwarth and

along the tranquil Union Canal pathways.

He expertly depicts autumnal and wintry

light shimmering through the branches and

serene watery reflections by Polwarth

Church and the boathouse.

“Jamie Primrose has an incredible feel for the

light of his native Edinburgh”

The Sunday Times

"Primrose's paintings exude a heaven-sent

sense of calm"

The Herald

"Jamie has had an astonishing degree of success

with his atmospheric paintings"

Galleries Magazine

“Jamie Primrose‟s paintings display an

atmospheric, ethereal quality that makes his

work so sought-after”

Scottish Field

"Primrose has an ever-expanding band of

collectors snapping up his work”

The Herald

These collectable new Southside oils

highlight the Edinburgh born artist‟s

fascination with light and shade and his

ongoing passion for this part of town. They

evoke a soothing ambiance and uplifting

mood for the viewer as they delight and

inspire – an exhibition not to be missed.

Thriving Reputation

Jamie Primrose is one of Scotland‟s most

prominent, sought-after contemporary

painters. Having attended The Edinburgh

Academy (1977-90), he gained a Fine Art

degree at Newcastle University (1990-94)

and then remarkably travelled the world and

worked in London for almost a decade

without lifting a paintbrush. In 2003, he

returned home to the capital to become a

professional artist and has since then

achieved outstanding success and critical

acclaim.

PLUM JAM RECIPE

Ingredients

900g dessert plums (weight without stones)

4 tbsp water

900g sugar

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 knob butter approx 1 tsp

Instructions

Halve the fruit and remove the stones.

Wash your jars and place in a low oven (see notes).

Put into a large pan with the water and cook gently until the plums are soft but not disintegrated.

Add the sugar and lemon juice and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Bring to the boil and boil rapidly, remove from the heat after 5 minutes and test for set (see notes).

When setting point has been reached, skim off the most of the froth (scum) into a bowl (you can still eat

this, it's not dirty just frothy) then add the knob of butter which will disperse the remaining scum.

Let it cook for about 15 minutes so the fruit settles and doesn't sink to the bottom of the jars.

Ladle into sterilised jars and leave to cool before sealing.

Recipe Notes

To Sterilise jars: thoroughly wash the jars, rinse in cold water, then turn upside down on a baking tray.

Place in the oven and turn the heat on very low leave for about 15 minutes, remove just before filling.

To Test for Set:

After about 5 mins, spoon a little jam onto a cold saucer. Place it back in the fridge for 2 minutes then

push the jam with your fingertip. If it wrinkles, the jam is ready. If not, cook for a few mins more and test

again, with another cold saucer. If you have a sugar thermometer, it will read 105C when ready.
