Why Do We Grow?
We succeed because we’re passionate about making
the world a better place, one interaction at a time.
At our core, we’re a family business - we care about
our Point of Rental family, and we work together to
ensure we’re all growing, thinking and thriving.
New Office at
Point of Rental HQ
With the company growing
faster since the creation of Point
of Rental Enterprise in 2001, the
team moves into their current
2011
Wayne Becomes CEO
With founders Bob and
Steve ready to retire,
they sold their interest in
the company to Point of
Rental’s President and
Chief Technical Officer
Wayne Harris.
1982
Founding of
Point of Rental
Unable to find fast, reliable
software to manage their
rental store, three former NASA
engineers drew on their
rocket science background
to design a solution for the
rental industry.
1984
First Sale
You can’t build a rental
software company if you don’t
have any customers! John
Wilke was the first non-founder
to use the Point-of-Rental
System to run his rental
store in 1984.
1985
After 20 years growing with
WHY DO WE GROW? (PART 2)
Okay, it’s clear that Point of Rental has grown. But we don’t grow
unless our employes grow professionally. Here’s how we help our
Pointers grow.
THE COMPANY
We like our employees smart, like you. We like ‘em up-to-date on what’s
going on. So if you’re a developer and there’s a helpful conference you
need to go to, ask a supervisor about going. If you’re a marketer and
there’s a marketing convention that’s going to help you become a better
one, let your supervisor know. We’ll try to get you where you want to go.

Goes Beyond
With 35 years of innovation
EDUCATION SYSTEM
If you’d like to pursue additional education after hours, we will help cover
those fees if it’s going to help you become even better at your career. Let
your supervisor know about your plan first, though. They’ll help you
figure out how to get everything taken care of.
VOLUNTEERING
We’re into volunteering. Whether it’s in the versions I’ve mentioned
earlier or it’s participating in industry leadership, we don’t want you
to just be another face. We want people to say “By golly, that
person (and therefore Point of Rental) is incredible!”

This is our direct descendant of the original software. It’s what the
company was built on, its modules earn industry awards virtually
every year, and if you get down to it, it’ll always be Wayne’s baby.
If you’re interested in all its features, visit the Rental Expert
brochure at point-of-rental.com/expert.
We added our cloud-based software in 2014; it’s tailored to
benefit small rental shops within niche industries, startups,
and other companies that wouldn’t have a need for the full
powers of Rental Expert or Elite (or desire to buy and
maintain their own servers).
Created in 2016 for the industry’s “big boys” and marketed
to the most forward-thinking rental companies, Rental Elite
has everything Expert has, but adds an online dashboard
that’s gradually becoming more powerful and will soon take
over the industry and the PLANET! *clears throat* Um, I
mean it will enable more computing power to take place
online, which will make it easier to provide updates more
often and accessibility everywhere for customers.
In 2016, Higher Concept Software in the U.K. was looking for
someone to buy the company. They didn’t want a giant,
faceless entity taking over; they were looking for a family-run
company committed to customer success. We saw a great
opportunity to get our hands on some great software and
add some incredible people to the team, and boom – now
Syrinx is part of the Point of Rental family. We sell it basically
everywhere but North America at this point.
Prospective Customers

The Basics
Work Weeks, Lunches
We’re all professionals here, and we
provide 24/7 customer support, so there
are a lot of different potential workdays
available. Basically, you’ll be able to
work with your section leader (more on
those later) to find a working period
that works for you and the team. The
general format is 9 hours with an hour
lunch break in the middle.
Times You Won’t be at Work
We have a few company-paid holidays
in these parts. Please don’t show up to
the office on New Year’s Day, Memorial
Day, July 4 (if on a weekday), Labor Day,
Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day.
Benefits
You won’t be able to get in the building,
and you’ll feel sad. On a holiday!
You’ll also accrue 10 vacation days per
year (technically, it accrues at 3.08 hours
per two-week pay period). Don’t come
to the office on those days; that’s a silly
way to spend your vacation. Be respectful
and let your supervisor know with as
much advance knowledge as possible,
though; leave is technically granted “at
the behest of management,” so you’ll
be in the wrong if you’re sipping Mai
Tais on the beach without your
supervisor’s approval.
Don’t feel like you need to be in the office
if you’re sick or recovering from a medical
condition that prevents you from being
able to be here and ready to rock. If you’re
sick, let a supervisor know ASAP. If you
have medical issues that require extended
leave, there are a bunch of variables and
paperwork rules to deal with, so we’ll
cross that bridge when we come to it.
Rules
We’ve come pretty far since our roughand-tumble
days in rental, when a fight
at work would simply earn you a day off.
Nowadays, we expect you to be able to
solve your differences using non-violent
means. Beyond that, Bill and Ted
effectively enumerated our general
code of conduct – Be excellent to each
other. If we’re missing stuff in the break
room, let the front desk know. Let your
supervisor know when you’re not going
to be on time, or when you’re going on
vacation. Oh, and don’t smoke in here.
It’s not allowed in the building at all; if
you need to smoke, there are areas for
doing so outside.
Health Insurance
If you’re using our insurance, we pay a
bunch of that. There are many options,
and obviously some people have more
dependents than others, so you’ll need
to check out the benefits book for
more details.
Retirement
You’ll probably want to work until the
day you die; but in case you think you
might want to spend more time with
your family or traveling the world later
in life, we match 401K contributions
100% (up to 4% of your income) and do
pre-tax withholdings automatically for
you. We’ll even kick in profit-sharing
once you’ve been here three years.
Telecommuting
Depending on your position, you
might be able to telecommute every
so often. NOTE: if you do it on Fridays,
you’ll miss out on Candy Friday.
pointofrental.com/welcome

Appearance Rules
It turns out “it’s what’s on the inside
that counts” is a bit of an exaggeration.
While it is very important that you be
present within your clothes, your
appearance is also of some importance.
We’d like anyone visiting the office to
think “These people are definitely
relatable, but they also seem quite
professional.” If you have questions,
look around your area of the office and
abide by the general rule of “Don’t be
the least-appropriately-dressed person
in the office.”
Holiday Parties
Spend some time with your co-workers
away from the office – there’s an official
Christmas party each year and an
unofficial Independence Day
celebration out on one of the lakes
around here, where we kick it.
Where is the coffee though
Check the break rooms on the east
and west sides of the office for
your caffeine fix.
Candy Friday
Jury Duty
Kid-Friendly
We get candy on Fridays. There’s
more cool stuff that goes on at the
office, like inter-office activities (more
on those later ). But sometimes,
candy is all you need.
Who doesnt
love candy
We feel it’s important to exercise your
civic responsibilities. If you get called
to jury duty, we encourage you to
participate, and you’ll be paid your
regular pay during this service. By
sheer coincidence, we are also legally
obligated to do so!
Sometimes you can’t get child care.
If you trust your kid to generally be
awesome around the office, well,
we’re not going to give you a hard
time if they’re in here every once in a
while. We’re a family business, after
all. Like most unofficial policies,
this works best when everyone
understands that it’s not intended
to be an all-the-time thing.

Inter-Office Activities
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
Nerf Combat Rules
In our U.S. office, there is a U.N.-designated no-fire zone in Jeff’s region in the south end of the office (see map for
location). Other than that, you’re free to engage. Use your noodle and don’t fire in on meetings, especially
ones with potential customers (although if they fire first, it’s an act of war and you’re obligated to return fire).
Tournaments
Our official tournaments that you’ll get certificates for and everything are our annual Table Tennis Tournament and
our H-O-R-S-E Tournament. Have another idea (and do we have an area that can handle it)? Start one up! Even if
there’s not a tournament going on, you can still grab someone and battle it out if you both have a little free time.
“Take Five” Days
Some days, Wayne likes to help build our internal community by giving everyone who stops by his office five bucks to
go get a drink or snack with at least one other person from a different department. Please take photos and send ‘em
to marketing when you go on these trips; people on our social media channels love to see that they’re working with a
company where people are having a good time together.
Book Club
Many of our employees like reading books. Or having lunchtime discussions. Or both. If one of those applies to you,
you might be interested in joining our Book Club. Office-wide emails go out when we start a new book.
Haverim
Point of Rental has a strong Christian community; Haverim builds fellowship through scripture and prayer each
Wednesday at noon. They also often participate in random acts of kindness challenges throughout the office to promote
positive feedback and generally making the world a better place.
Point the Way Community Involvment
We’re also big fans of helping our community! In addition to toy drives and food drives, Point the Way helps
identify opportunities for days of service or figure out other ways we can improve our community.
RentalTalk
Like to be on camera? Or see coworkers having fun while you learn what’s new with the company? Want to know
more about the office? We’re putting together a monthly video program to keep employees in the loop on what’s
going on within the company as well as to educate customers and potential customers. If you have any great ideas
for video (or you’d like to be featured, either in our “Meet a New Person” or our trivia segments), tell someone.
Potlucks and Food Trucks
Remember that page about growth? You might find yourself growing in other ways, too, thanks to our potlucks, cooking
competitions, and food trucks that drop by the office. There are also free snacks in the support-side break room, and on
very special occasions, food is provided for the whole office. Let’s put it this way: You’ll never have to worry about starving.
Things to know
The ARA Show
The rental industry’s biggest convention in the U.S., it takes place every February/March.
It’s kind of a big deal around here; we send 25 or so people and everyone is STILL busy
just about 24/7 during the event.
International Conference
Point of Rental has an annual conference for our users. Usually held in November, it’s an
opportunity to meet a couple hundred customers as they visit the area (and our offices,
for a short part of the trip).
Awards
Ultimately, success comes down to fulfilling customers’ desires. But we also like getting
industry awards. It’s kinda like how an NBA player might define success as doing his best
every day as a basketball player, but he still wants that trophy at the end of the season.
(Why use the NBA as an example? Because they’re Rental Essentials customers.)
Support
While those of us in other sections largely get to just drop in and do work,
our support team goes through a 60-day training period to get themselves
familiar with the software. So if you see a new support person, help ‘em
out and give ‘em some encouragement; they’re tackling a pretty big project from Day 1.
As a company, we have some season tickets for the Dallas Cowboys. You can attend for free;
you’ll just have to enter your name and a few options for which game you’d like to go to.
We’ll try to make sure you get to one of ‘em. We also sometimes have group tickets to
a Texas Rangers game or other local events.
