ivil Engineering is one of the oldest
engineering professions, and all ancient
engineering achievements are made possible due
to civil engineering. With the rapid urbanization
in India, the pace of new emerging civil
construction projects has also increased. This calls
for the development of new infrastructure with
specific knowledge about construction related
design, planning, management, technology and
activities.
Civil Engineering department is strongly working
on inculcating discipline, moral values and youth
building. It includes the designing, planning,
construction, and maintenance of the
infrastructure. Civil Engineering is intimately
associated with the private and public sectors,
including the individual homeowners and
international enterprises.

SIR MOKSHAGUNDAM
VIShwEShwARAYA
Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshwarayya (15 September
1860 – 12 April 1962) was an Indian Chief civil engineer,
scholar, statesman, politician and the 19th Diwan (governor)
of Mysore, who served from 1912 to 1919. One of the most
eminent engineers ever produced by India, Sir
Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, better known as M.
Visvesvaraya, was a man of high principles and discipline.
An engineer par excellence, he was the chief architect behind
the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mandya
which helped to convert the surrounding barren lands into
fertile grounds for farming. An idealistic person, he believed
in simple living and high thinking. His father was a Sanskrit
scholar who believed in providing quality education to his
son. Even though his parents were not financially rich, the
young boy was exposed to a richness of culture and tradition
at home. Over the next 10 years (between 1895 & 1905), Sir
MV worked at different parts of India including :
• Hyderabad where he remodeled the entire city & improved
its drainage system,
• Bombay where he introduced block system of irrigation &
water weir flood gates,
• Bihar & Orissa where he was involved in building railway
bridges & water supply schemes,
• Mysore where he supervised the construction of KRS dam
which was Asia’s biggest dam when it was built.

RATOR ES
Water & Waste Water Engineering Lab :
The lab focuses on Water Quality Assessment & Water and Wastewater
Treatment. It is well equipped for sampling and analysis of water &
waste water for different physical, chemical and microbial parameters.
Highway Engineering Lab :
This lab contains equipments to categorize soil and bitumen binders in
terms of their properties and quality control and provides an additional
exposure to the testing of Highway Construction Materials.

Soil Engineering Lab :
This lab shows various types of tests used for soil testing with details of
experiment, theory and purpose followed by detailed explanation of
apparatus, procedure and specimen calculations are covered.
Concrete Technology Lab :
The lab is established to carry out tests concrete to determine strength,
strain, elasticity, stiffness, durability, workability, etc.
Surveying Lab :
The Lab consists of an assortment of state-of-the-art equipment for
performing various engineering measurements. Students obtain
topographic information for highway design & land development.

Fluid Mechanics Lab :
This lab introduces fluid flow, fluid forces and analysis tools. It involves
study of various properties of the fluid, such as velocity, pressure,
density and temperature. The lab is equipped with different flow
measuring set-ups such as venturimeter, orifice-plate, pitot tube,
rotometer etc.
Mechanics of Solids Lab :
The objective of the lab is to understand the behavior of solid materials,
their motion and deformation under the action of forces, temperature
changes, phase changes and other external or internal agents with the
help of different mechanical equipments.

Freshers Party 2K18 was
thrown by 2 nd Year Students
to heartily welcome the new
batch of 2018 as well as
Diploma to Degree Students.
The main aim of this event is
to establish good
communication and
interaction between juniors
and seniors and make them
feel at ease. This party not
only build confidence of new
comers but also add creativity
to their levels.
The party was
organized at BR Farm Party
Plot, Navsari on 31 st August
2018, Friday. It was
accompanied by colorful
programs like welcome
dance, western dances,
exhilarating singing
performances and ramp walk,
thus making it a soulful
evening. The principals of other
institutes of S. S. Agrawal
Education Trust were warmly
invited to add charm to the
function. The students were
greatly excited and enjoyed
their welcome towards new
start. The program was
followed by few games and
voucher cards arranged by
YOU Shop, Navsari. The
awards for Mr. and Miss
Fresher 2K18 were judged after
ramp walk and few
questionnaires.

The owner of BR Farm Party Plot was invited as judge for the
awards. The day was a great success ending with DJ dance
making the students fully engrossed in having fun.
With the trendiest clothes and heart throbbing
Dance floor, the party was a fabulous way to
kick start the academic year for the students.

1) TRANSLUCENT WOOD
The transparent timber is created through a
process that removes the chemical lignin
from a wood veneer, causing it to become
very white. This white porous veneer is then
impregnated with a transparent polymer,
matching the optical properties of the
individual cells and making the whole
material translucent.
2) COOLING SYSTEM IN BRICKS
Through the combination of clay & hydrogel,
a new material having cooling effect on
interiors was made. The presence of hydrogel
absorbs water upto 500 times its weight and is
released to reduce temperature during hot
days. Hydro ceramics have ability to reduce
temperature upto 6 degree Celsius.
3) BRICKS FROM CIGARETTE
BUTTS
To reduce impact of cigarette butts on
environment, lighter and more energy
efficient bricks from cigarette butts are
introduced to utilize waste in eco-friendly
manner. Yearly 6 million cigarettes are
manufactured producing 1.2 million tonnes of
cigarette butts waste.

4) MARTIAN CONCRETE
A concrete that can be made from materials
available on Mars is introduced. To prepare
Martian Concrete, Sulphur is heated at 240
degree Celsius which melts into liquid.
5) LIGHT GENERATING CEMENT
A cement having ability to create and
irradiate light has been created. With this
light generating cement, its processes and
applications can be huge. Energy usage for
creating this cement is low & can be created
at room temperature.
7) BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCED
FURNITURE
Another innovation in construction industry
is bioplastic furniture. So far, two pieces of
furniture are created with this – a chaise
lounge & small chair for kids. This process
is low energy, pollution free and requires
low technology to manufacture.
6) THE CABKOMA STRAND ROD
A thermoplastic carbon fibre composite,
CABKOMA STRAND ROD is created. The
strand is lightest seismic reinforcement and
aesthetically pleasing. A single strand of 160
meter length weighs only 12 kg which is 5
times lighter than metal rod.

birth anniversary of 2 nd
President of India, great
scholar and an excellent
teacher, Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan, is marked as
Teachers Day. Students across
the country make every possible
effort to make this day
memorable for their teachers.
Similarly, the students of
SSAIET celebrated Teacher’s
Day by giving half day off to
their teachers. The 4 th Year
students performed eventually
as the faculties and conducted

across India celebrates
Engineers Day on 15
September every year as a
tribute to the greatest Indian
Engineer Bharat Ratna
M..Visvesvaraya.
SSAIET celebrated
Engineer’s Day on 19 th
September 2018 with great
pomp and enthusiasm
marching towards
nourishment of new
innovative engineers. The
event was themed and
recognized by the
“Technical Rangoli of Sir
M. Visvesvaraya” that was
designed using all the
engineering tools from all
branches: Civil, Mechanical,
Electrical, Chemical,
Computer & Applied Science
& Humanities Departments.
The celebration
started with an introduction of
the day and welcome
greetings for invited Guests at
Seminar Hall. The Civil
Engineering Department fully
participated by organizing
civil engineering events:
Floating Tower and Urban
Planning. Students were
highly interested and the
events were greatly
successful. First event was
based on Structural Designing
Principles. The students were
made to build a tower from
straws with a thermocol base.
The second event was based
on Principles of Planning.
They had to plan a city as per
criteria instructed.
