A time to remember. Our thoughts on the 11th Day of November will be fi rmly on
100 years from the end of the First World War. A time for refl ection and giving
thanks to those who have served their country and those who gave the ultimate
sacrifi ce.
The Annual Remembrance day Parade in Bridge of Weir will meet in the Village
Car Park at 2.30pm, setting off at 2.45pm and march to the War Memorial for
the Service of Remembrance at 3pm. Back to the car park then onto Freeland
Church for tea.
Poppy collection tins are located in commercial premises within the Village we
urge you to support Poppyscotland who aim to help as many people in the Armed
Forces community as possible. They
support people of all ages, where
diffi culties have arisen during time
in the Armed Forces or many years
later. They help the families of ex-
Servicemen and women, including
partners, widows, widowers and
children.
We are all inspired by those who have
gone before us so please support the
appeal.
Bridge of Weir Hillwalkers reborn
We are pleased to announce that after
a period of years that BoW Hillwalkers
are back on the scene.
Originally founded in 1985 in the
Railway tavern, it is appropriate that the
walking group was reborn in Amaretto
We intend to run walks on two Mondays
per month and to get away most
months on a Sunday with a peppering
of weekends away in the hills up north (and maybe down south as well).
The group is well trained and very friendly. In fact our boast is that the social side
of things is just as important.
We are open to all like minded folk regardless of age, in particular. We cover
an area from north Ayrshire into Inverclyde and Renfrewshire. There are no
subscriptions so why not come and join us on an outing and see what you think.
Contact Alison Johnstone on 01505 874989 or Don Smith on 01505 321720
also Don at donwwsmith@gmail.com
We have a Facebook page Bridge of Weir Hillwalkers which will give more
information.
Now the leaves are falling along with the wind and rain and so
the drains are being covered, roads and pavements become
slippery. We also have the dark evenings so remember to wear
bright clothing if out after dark and it is a good idea to carry a
torch to be seen by as much as to see with. Cycle tracks can be
particularly risky if using them after dark without lights. So be
careful out there.
A few weeks ago while I was distributing some leafl ets in
Langbank, I was surprised to see water fl owing out a gully
on Houston Road and into the next gully and away. This was
strange as this was the only water on the road as it had not been raining and
wondered if there was a burst water pipe somewhere. Naturally I reported this
but it was no surprise to fi nd a fl ood at this point a couple of week later. I will
continue to work to fi x this.
Similarly in Bridge of Weir, the recent heavy rainfall again caused the sewer
manhole to overfl ow at the side of Amaretto, and probably further up the Glen
also. This is not the fi rst time that this sewer has exceeded its capacity and I
have raised the matter with both Scottish Water and SEPA and I will follow this up.
Further development in Bridge of Weir will only exacerbate this situation.
Speeding traffi c is a subject that affects all the villages. In Bridge of Weir, I am
expecting the 30 limit to be extended beyond St Mary’s Church on the Johnstone
Road. In Bishopton, I am requesting traffi c calming on the Old Greenock Road at
the entrance to the village from Linburn, and also speed restrictions on Greenock
road by the primary school. Langbank roundabout on the A8 continues to be a
concern.
