Cover Story:
Her Royal Highness The
Countess of Wessex has
been the Patron of
Disability Initiative since
2003. A regular visitor,
her support and
encouragement has had
an incredible impact on all
involved. She takes a
keen interest in each and
every person and all
aspects of work.
Our President Bill Biddell,
who is also the Vice Lord
Left Tennant of Surrey.
Bill became DI’s president
in 2001. He is an
incredible support with all
aspects of the charity.
Back Cover Story:
“I’m 43 and am a qualified
electric and heating engineer and
plumber and also an avid
motorcyclist! In October 2006, I
had the misfortune of falling off
my motorbike and head-butting a
crash barrier sustaining severe
head, face and arm injuries and
had to have my heart “jump
started” twice in A&E and spent a
week in intensive care. I was
referred to DI and joined the
Cognitive Skills Group which
enabled me to understand the
impact of having a brain injury
and to overcome some of the
specific problems encountered on
a day-to-day basis. DI has helped
me improve my cognitive skills
and develop new IT skills. I have
found DI invaluable and my wife
says I am now much easier to
live with as a result!”

MESSAGE FROM OUR
CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Our accomplishments throughout
2017 have been awesome and we’ve
shared a great number of
experiences.
“Inspirational, exciting
and challenging are just a
few of the many words
that sum up 2017 for DI.”
Under the direction of Man Made
films we had such fun making
several promotional films for the
website.
We worked with corporates including
CISCO and Puppet, creating fully
immersive corporate days which
concentrated on unconscious bias
and realising disability training.
We are lucky enough to have the
prospect of widening our reach and
further developing partnerships that
will enable us to continue to make a
positive difference to our clients, their
families and the community itself.
Overall, we are looking forward
to a very exciting 2018!
We also forged deeper
relationships and collaborations
with many organisations and
individuals.
The tremendous fundraising has
had a significant impact and
every single penny goes towards
services to benefit our clients
and our carers.

We are eternally grateful for the support
we have. Every penny enhances our
clients experiences.
This years fundraising has enabled us to
buy new equipment, including a Genie
wheelchair. It has also facilitated the
improvement of our Camberley Building
and ensuring carers get the support and
a break from caring at our carers
evenings.
All of which has had hugely positive and
direct impact on the overall wellbeing of
the carers, clients, staff and community.
We would like to extend our
eternal gratitude to all our
runners, corporate sponsors,
staff, clients, families and
everyday supporters.
Challenge
Every contribution makes a
difference and to name just a
few, this year a special thanks
goes out to our Swinley Golfers,
The Mayor of Surrey Heath
Borough Council, The Ratcliff
Trust, Club 41 and DI’s own
clients.

FINANCIAL
STATEMENT
OVERVIEW
All our information disclosed here and presented
as part of 2017 Financial Statement are presented
by both the Financial Reporting Standard 102 (FRS
102) and the Accounting and Reporting by
Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice.
INCOME
We raise the majority of our income through
Fundraising and donations from our close
partnerships. A large amount of our income from
2017 came from fundraising activities like the
motomed challenge that raised around £1,100 as
well as other activities like the Swinely Golf day
and the 10k Run that raises a large sum of over
£5000.
Fee Income is our main source of income that
enables the day to day running of our Camberley
Resource Centre. The diagram below shows a
breakdown of our client sources.
EXPENDITURE ON CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES
Expenditure has been confined to that which
improves the facilities of the centre and enhances
operational effectiveness.
100% of the income raised goes to improving
client care and facilities. This year, we were able
to use the funds raised from the 10k Run and
other support to purchase our Genie wheelchair
that has hugely psychological and physiological
benefits for our clients.
Additionally, as a result of a charitable donation
from the Ratcliff Trust given to us as part of the
Swinley Golf Fundraiser, we were able to offer
additional non-contact boxing services to our
clients. This facility is hugely popular with our
clients and has numerous health Benefits.
Registered Charity Number: 1049002
Registered Company Number: 3029077
NET ASSETS
Our consolidated net assets have increased this
year, reflecting a surplus. Therefore
demonstrating our relatively strong financial
position, This can mainly be attributed to the
strong fixed asset base of the group.
RESERVES POLICY
Our reserves policy aims to ensure that we hold
sufficient funds to be able to mitigate the
financial impact of events that lead to a shortfall
in income or unplanned expenditure.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
• Invest in a changing society.
• Broaden our horizons.
Our Trustees have been busy developing a
strategy and preparing for future revolutionary
changes in the delivery of Health and Social Care
and the support given to clients who suffer from
chronic conditions. This is something specifically
relevant to us as if you look at a breakdown of
our clients by diagnosis you can see how many
suffer with chronic and life changing conditions.
FIVE YEAR FUTURE GOAL
As a result, our Trustees have set out a clear
plan for the Next 5 Years that:
• Enables us to deliver this service to a wider
scope of individuals in need.
• As well as making our service more efficient
in a financially sustainable way.
