Community comes together to clean Edgeware Pool site THE EDGEWARE Pool site has had a clean up. Rotary Club and swim club members, city councillors and community board members joined the St Albans Pool and Pavilion Group in a bid to remove grass, mattresses, shopping trolleys and rubbish. “They filled a large skip with rubbish and two trailer loads of green waste for removal with the aim of clearing the site to be used for possible future fundraising events. It is a work in progress and more work days are planned,” group member Valerie Somerville said. The group is fundraising to rebuild Edgeware Pool at its former Edgeware Rd site. It is expected to cost about $5 million. • By Jacob Page COBHAM Intermediate got one back in the final of the South Island year 7 and 8 water polo champs at Dunedin’s Moana Pool. Cobham beat Christ The King 7-5 to win the title on October 28. They previously drew with Christ The King 4-4 during the round-robin and lost the Canterbury title decider to them the previous week. Cobham beat Canterbury Combined 8-3, Southland Combined 7-6, Balmacewen Intermediate 7-2, James Hargest College 3-2 and Casebrook Intermediate 8-5 on their way to the title. Cobham won five of their six games and reversed the Canterbury championships result in which they were beaten by Christ the King. Teacher in charge of water polo Kate Dore said it was Cobham’s first South Island title in six attempts. “Christ The King had been the benchmark all season, so for us to draw with them in the round-robin game gave us a lot of confidence that we were able to use for the rest of the tournament,” she said. Dore said the team trained once a week at Christ’s College.
