We’re living in a world where many people are either suffering from an identity crises or are defining themselves by society’s everchanging opinions. It’s is important that we know who we are in Christ and understand that we are chosen for Greatness. The following scriptures re-inforce the truth that you are chosen for greatness: Deuteronomy 7:6: “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Matthew 22:14: “For many are called, but few are chosen.” 1 Peter 2:9(NKJV): 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light…John 15:16 (AMP) You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My representative] He may give to you. So, your God has chosen you; you are a special treasure. God has purposefully planned you. He has appointed you. You are not an accident. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CHOSEN? To be chosen is to be sought after and separated from the crowd of many. You are defined, predestined, selected, approved, confirmed recognised recommended singled out, and unopposed. You are unopposed because God has chosen you. He chose you to be a part of His family. We have to remind ourselves that we are chosen for greatness GOD MAKES THE CHOICE It doesn’t matter where you live, what you have achieved, or have not achieved, what you look like, or what your background is. You are chosen for greatness. You are God’s own purchase, selected to be God’s own masterpiece and instrument: For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above— spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Ephesians 2.10 AMP WHO CAN BE CHOSEN? Anyone can be chosen because it is God who makes the choice. It’s not about situation or ability. David was the least, even in his own father’s eyes. David was the youngest in the family and given the task to just care for his father’s sheep. Mary was of no social standing; Jeremiah said he was ‘but a youth’, Amos said ‘I am just a farmer’; Esther was an orphan and Moses had a stammer. And yet, every single one of these people manifested the glory of God. They knew their God and as a result, they were strong and they did exploits. 4 THE WINNING WOMEN MAGAZINE | MADE FOR GREATNESS
Y e m i s i A s h i m o l o w o God calls ordinary people BUT to be called is not the same as being chosen. The chosen are those who hear, heed and follow God - and keep on following Him. WHY HAVE YOU BEEN CHOSEN? You have been chosen to do great things for God. To manifest His glory and enforce His purpose on the earth. Chosen people are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We are not like the world. We are chosen to be witnesses of the Lord, as it says in: Isaiah 43:10 “ You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “ And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He (NKJV) and in 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NKJV): … “but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE GREAT? The world view of greatness is about what you’ve achieved, where you live and how much is in your bank account. However, greatness is not measured by what you have or by what you can do. For the Christian, greatness is more about why you do what you do and who you do it for. Greatness flows out of giving, not getting. It is about sacrifice, serving others and selflessness. The disciples measured the word ‘greatest’ in the sense of being the most important but Jesus, taught them otherwise, saying: ‘Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.” Matthew 20: 26 (AMP) YOU ARE GOD’S CHOICE FOR THE JOB The story of David challenges us to look beyond outward appearances to a person’s heart and character. God saw something in David that no one else did. You may not qualify before men but God has chosen you. God knows where you are. He sees your potential, not your looks, your university degree or your accomplishments. God did not choose David for his looks, He chose him because of his heart. Inside the shepherd boy was Israel’s greatest king waiting to get out. There is a king on the inside of you. There is more to you than the eyes can see. God is looking for people who love Him and have a heart to serve Him without thought to what they will receive in return. God uses people who will depend upon His power, rather than upon their own strength and abilities. Stop mourning over the past. Stop mourning over what didn’t turn out right. Stop mourning over those who wronged you. You are a person of worth. All of God’s power resides in you. It is time to rise to and shine; you are chosen for greatness.
