For more information, visit markets. farmland.org or www.wintergarden farmersmarket.com. n New police chief for Orlando Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced the appointment of Orlando Rolon, a 25-year police NEWS & BUSINESS BRIEFS department veteran, as the next police chief of the city of Orlando. Rolon will serve as the 39th police chief and will succeed current OPD Chief John Mina, who is retiring after nearly 28 years of service. A 41-year resident of Orlando who was born in Puerto Rico, Rolon will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and serve as chief counsel to the mayor in matters of public safety. During his 25-year tenure with OPD, he has worked or supervised in all four department bureaus and nine of the department’s 11 divisions. n HFUW offers program for women The Women United Meredith E. Level Fellows Program at Heart of Florida United Way is a five-year program for rising female professionals compiled by Lauren Salinero who are passionate about improving the community. Fellows who are selected gain in-depth knowledge about the Central Florida community, especially the challenges faced in the areas of education, health, financial stability and basic needs. The program provides opportunities for volunteering, networking and leadership development with other like-minded women that choose to make Central Florida a better place for all. For more information about the program or to apply, visit www.hfuw. org/fellows. n Adopt a fire station for the holidays With the help of the Neighborhood Preservation & Revitalization Division, Orange County Fire Rescue is once again participating in the Orange County Mayor’s Adopt a Fire Station for the holidays. The goal is to have all 21 Orange County Fire Rescue stations, as well as the 911 Dispatch Center and headquarters, adopted by families and/or local organizations and businesses. While most firefighters celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones, many spend the holiday season on call at the fire station. In an effort to make the holidays special for them, the Adopt a Fire Station program began in 2012 so neighborhood groups, businesses, families and nonprofits could recognize and give back to their local fire stations. Registration is open and runs through Dec. 15, and the campaign will run through Jan. 1, 2019.
