Prayer Meeting

Prayer Meeting will not be held this Wednesday evening, November 21, due to the

Thanksgiving holiday. Prayer Meeting will resume on Wednesday, November 28.

Stewardship Corner

It is easier to wallow in our misery than it is to look outside of our world at the plight

of others. No matter how bad things are in our lives, there’s a place on this earth that

is worse. “If we turn our attention toward others, we will see our own difficulties

melt like ice cream on a hot, sunny day” (Eugene Grimm, Generous People, Abingdon

Press, 1992, p. 15). Think about that today. Somewhere out there is someone

who has greater needs than you and I do. As we give our Tithe and Combined Budget

Offering today, let us prayerfully check our attitude towards our giving.

OUC Cash App

In our continued quest for relevancy, the OUC is now equipped to receive loose offering

donations via “Cash App.” Please note the cashtag is: $OUCSDA.

Oakwood Adventist Academy (OAA) Building Project

Please be mindful of our financial commitment to the OAA Building Project. Given

our church obligation of $3,000,000.00, the OUC makes a monthly payment to satisfy

this commitment. Let us all support this collective responsibility through our systematic

financial support, which is in addition to our normal Tithe and Combined Budget

Offering. All donations, large or small, are sincerely appreciated. Kindly mark on

your offering envelope, “OAA Building Fund.”

Restoration 40, Part 1 - Family Life Center

Our Family Life Center is in full operation as ministries and services are daily being

offered in our new facility! We still, however, need your financial support for this

building project. Each member is kindly asked to reach a minimum goal of $1,000.00

for this project (in addition to your normal Tithe and Combined Budget Offering). If

you have reached your $1,000.00 goal, please feel free to give additional funds. Donations

can be made via your offering envelope and labeled, “Restoration 40.”

Thank You

The J.L. Moran Alumni Chapter wishes to thank the entire OUC Family for the clothing

contributions during the “Dress for Success” clothes’ closet initiative which benefited

Oakwood University (OU) students during the most recent Career Fair.

OUC Market Holiday Food Sale

Please patronize our OUC Market and take advantage of the food price discounts during

this holiday season. Store hours for this upcoming week will be Sunday from

10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, and Wednesday

from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The market will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Welcome

On behalf of the Pastoral Staff, Officers, and Members of the Oakwood University Church

(OUC), we would like to extend a special welcome today to all of our visiting friends. We hope

you enjoy your worship experience with us, and please come again.

Restoration 40, Part 2 - Sanctuary Renovation

Our “Restoration 40, Part 2” initiative is in full effect! All are being called upon to sacrifice for

this initiative as our sanctuary needs to be renovated with new carpeting and pews. In addition to

your normal Tithe and Combined Budget Offering, all are asked to remit $1,000.00 (minimum)

towards this much needed project. Thank you very much for your cooperation and support.

Prayer Ministries Week of Prayer

In harmony with our Adventist World Church Week of Prayer Emphasis, our OUC Prayer

Ministries Team will culminate its “Week of Prayer” this afternoon, November 17, at 5:00 pm in

the main sanctuary. The final reading from the Adventist Review will be shared. Remember,

where there is “much prayer, much power!” All are invited to attend.

Family Life Ministries - Support Groups

Our Divorce Care and Grief Share Support Groups will meet today, November 17, from 5:00 to

6:30 pm in Moseley Complex for Divorce Care and our Family Life Center for Grief Share.

Family Life Ministries’ Marriage Enrichment Seminar

All married and/or engaged couples (church members and community residents) are invited to

attend our next Marriage Enrichment Seminar sponsored by our OUC Family Life Ministries’

Department to be held today, November 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in our Family Life Center. The

presenters will be Pastor and Mrs. Paul and Ellen Goodridge, and the subject will be, “The Price

of Forgiveness.”

J.L Moran Alumni Association “Parade of States” Fundraiser

All are invited to attend the special “Parade of States” Fundraiser to raise scholarship funds for

graduating OU Seniors tomorrow, November 18, at 4:00 pm in our Family Life Center. We look

forward to seeing you. You will not want to miss this event!

Heaven’s Storehouse Thanksgiving Food Basket/Bag Giveaway

Heaven’s Storehouse Food Distribution Ministry will distribute Thanksgiving Food Baskets/Bags

to pre-registered, eligible community residents this Monday, November 19, from 10:00 am to

1:00 pm here at the church. Please note that to receive a food bag pre-registration is necessary.

Celebration of Hymns Music Festival and PELC

Just prior to the annual Pastoral Evangelism and Leadership Council (PELC), there will be a

“Celebration of Hymns” Music Festival here at the OUC on Friday, November 30, and Sabbath,

December 1, featuring guest clinicians and musical artists, Dr. James Abbington, Dr. Cedric

Dent, Dr. Jason Ferdinand, Paul Lee, Gale Jones Murphy, and John Stoddart. Friday evening

(11/30) at 7:30 pm there will be a hymn festival, and on Sabbath (12/1), Dr. Barry Black, United

States Senate Chaplain, will be our special guest speaker for Divine Worship at 11:00 am,

accompanied by the music ministry of the OU Aeolians. Also, on Sabbath (12/1), there will be a

Plenary Session at 3:30 pm followed by the annual Aeolians Concert and Celebration of Hymns

Finale at 6:00 pm. PELC will begin Sunday evening, December 2, at 6:00 pm.

Special Worship Experience - Dr. Barry Black

Dr. Barry Black, Chaplain for the United States Senate, will be our special guest speaker on

Sabbath, December 1, for our Divine Worship Experience at 11:00 am. Please plan to be in

attendance for this special worship experience, and kindly invite your family, friends, neighbors,

and love ones to join us.

Tabitha’s Corner and Pathfinder Club Winter Coat and Blanket Drive

Our Tabitha’s Corner Clothing Distribution Ministry and our Pathfinder Club are appealing to the

OUC Family for gently used or new blankets and winter coats in preparation for their distribution

to the Huntsville homeless population on Sunday, December 2. Coat and blanket donations can

be placed in the receptacle bin in the Family Life Center. For more information, please contact

Jocelyn Thomas (256.852.7201), Jennifer Richardson (256.322.1434), Sharon King

(256.859.6960), or Tricia McDonald (256.797.7262). Thank you for your support.

Condolence

We regret to announce the passing of Aubrey Thompson. The Memorial Service will be

Sabbath afternoon, December 8, at 5:00 pm in the Moseley Complex Chapel. Please

remember the Thompson Family in your prayers.

Health Ministries’ Announcements

Health Nugget: If you have type two diabetes and your doctor says you need to begin using

insulin, does it mean you’re failing to take care of your diabetes properly? Using insulin to

get blood glucose levels to a healthy level is a good thing, not a bad one. For most people,

type two diabetes is a progressive disease. When first diagnosed, many people with type two

diabetes can keep their blood glucose at a healthy level with a combination of meal planning,

physical activity, and taking oral medications. But over time, the body gradually produces

less and less of its own insulin, and eventually oral medications may not be enough to keep

blood glucose levels in a healthy range. ~ Source: American Diabetes Association
