HEW YIT FUN AND ALISON CHEN
“Alison and Yit Fun’s own
home is testament to the
hard work and tenacity
that they have put into
their business.”
wanted to throw it away, but thought about what we could use these
smaller pieces for,” Alison explained. A water feature outside on
the patio utilises fossil stone sourced from Brazil.
Yit Fun pointed towards the impressive wall facing the entrance
of his home. Made of volcanic stone sourced from Italy, this
slate grey material is textured. “ We call it a linen finish,” Yit Fun
explained. “ The stone does not originally look this way. Machines
are used to give the surface the texture of cloth fabric. Many
designers confuse it for wallpaper,” he beamed, impressed at the
softening effect it gives the room. It is these ingenious solutions
that set Stone De Art apart and what brings satisfaction not only to
Stone De Art’s clientele but to Alison and Yit Fun.
Yit Fun’s projection for the company for the next five years is
to turn its attention to detailing and design, and introducing new
trends into the market. Tastes are still very oriented towards white,
grey and black marble or stone, but Yit Fun predicts that colour
will increasingly gain favour as designers move away from the
prevalent minimalist look.
THE FRUITS OF ONE’S LABOUR
On the home front there is just as much to look forward to. With
the school holidays coming up the family is already looking
forward to the holidays and a well-deserved trip to Korea. Alison,
who loves Korean fashion, is especially excited about the shopping
and year-end sales.
The move to the new abode has also put Yit Fun closer to an
Olympic-size swimming pool, where he can train for his next
triathalon. In addition to the daily 1 ½ hours in the gym that
Yit Fun and Alison put in before they head for work, Yit Fun is
a former cyclist and an avid ultra marathon runner who began
pounding the pavements in 2012.
With 2019 on the horizon, he is looking forward to the
Vibram 100 in Hong Kong in January. Just as the business must
have been when it first started, he described ultra marathons
as an unforgettable experience – “ Torturous but addictive once
achieved.” Like Stone De Art, his sentiments about running reflect
the company’s manifesto and the ethos of sticking to your ideals
and the rewards that you can reap if you do.
