<strong>2018</strong> is a significant year<br />
for those of us interested<br />
in the First World <strong>War</strong> as it<br />
marks the centenary of the<br />
end of the conflict. As we<br />
remember all those whose<br />
lives were affected<br />
during this period I hope<br />
that in its own very small<br />
way Tommy’s <strong>War</strong> is help<br />
keeping the memory of<br />
what became to be known<br />
as The Great <strong>War</strong> alive.<br />
In <strong>2018</strong> the series has<br />
already focussed on the<br />
Battle of Passchendaele in<br />
1917 with figures<br />
representing the Post<br />
Office Rifles (see page 11)<br />
‘shown going over the top’<br />
which has already proved<br />
hugely popular with modellers.<br />
This takes the British<br />
contingent in the series up<br />
to 58 figures (not including<br />
cavalry), so it’s a reasonable<br />
study of the period in<br />
miniature!<br />
INTRODUCTION<br />
I’m delighted to bring to<br />
you a further seven<br />
German figures, taking that<br />
range to 13. Plus in this<br />
edition we have the new<br />
Italian Marine in the new<br />
‘Allies’ classification.<br />
But that’s not all, also<br />
displayed is the already<br />
best-selling Trooper of the<br />
Australian Light Horse.<br />
Demand for this has been a<br />
little overwhelming and I’m<br />
sure you’ll agree with me<br />
that the figure is Nino at his<br />
very best.<br />
In addition to the figures<br />
you’ll be interested to know<br />
that we’ve partnered with<br />
the top paint company<br />
LifeColor in Italy to produce<br />
a British World <strong>War</strong> One<br />
uniform set. I know it’s<br />
something a lot of<br />
customers had requested<br />
so we’ve worked closely<br />
together to create a set of<br />
colours that helps give you<br />
a base reference.<br />
Speaking of colour, you’ll<br />
also be pleased to know<br />
that I’ve partnered with<br />
Alex Long (who painted the<br />
box art for the Australian<br />
Light Horse) to put<br />
together a painting guide<br />
for Tommy’s <strong>War</strong> figures<br />
based on figure TW32001.<br />

TW32024, Private, 1/7th Lancashire Fusilier, Cape Helles 1915 remembers the British involvement<br />
at Gallipoli this figure shows one of the Territorial battalions of the East Lancashire Division as they<br />
landed at Cape Helles in the Dardanelles in 1915. Following the exploits of the 1st Battalion and<br />
their ‘six VC’s before breakfast’ action the ‘terriers’ performed well throughout the campaign.<br />

The Action at Nery<br />
A set released in November 2013, this has proved to<br />
be a massive success with sales far exceeding<br />
projections. Designed to show a particular moment<br />
in time, this set has captured the imagination of<br />
modellers throughout the world and has been<br />
acclaimed by the modelling press.<br />
The set features a superb replica of the Ordnance<br />
QF 13 pounder, QF gun limber and 4 figures which<br />
build in to a detailed diorama of this famous action.<br />
Christmas Truce<br />
This special set of two figures commemorates the<br />
100th anniversary of World <strong>War</strong> One by recreating<br />
one of the most poignant episodes of the war when<br />
both sides unofficially stopped fighting over<br />
Christmas. These figures show a British Private of the<br />
1st Battalion Royal <strong>War</strong>wickshire Regiment and<br />
Private soldier of the German army shaking hands in no<br />
mans land, symbolic of that short truce that<br />
was sadly not to last.<br />

Gassed is a six figure set, with diorama base, that remembers all those that suffered the effects of<br />
gas in World <strong>War</strong> One. A truly horrific weapon used by all sides, gas not only affected those in the<br />
trenches physically but mentally as well.<br />
This magnificent set of figures, sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi and cast in detailed grey resin is inspired<br />
by the American painter John Singer Sargent who originally painted the image in 1919 (the painting is<br />
still owned by the Imperial <strong>War</strong> Museum). The set comes complete with a 180mm x 60mm diorama<br />
base, sculpted by Andrew Belsey, that comes complete with six duckboards that slot together to form<br />
an evocative scene. The set comes in a great quality gift box and also includes a small leaflet with the<br />
background to Gassed and a postcard commemorating all those victims of gas.<br />

Walking Wounded depicts a Private of the Royal Army Medical Corps leading a wounded<br />
Guardsman of the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards to the rear.<br />
This set of two figures remembers the bravery of the men of the RAMC who performed above<br />
and beyond the call of duty throughout the war in multiple theatres of conflict.<br />
The figures are sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi and the box art is by Alex Varela, and as the medics<br />
hand is sculpted on the Guardsman’s arm the figures are only available as a set of two.<br />

In this series we look at individual moments of extreme courage<br />
beginning with one of the most remarkable stories of the Great <strong>War</strong>.<br />
Daniel Laidlaw was a Piper with the 7th Battalion Kings Own Scottish<br />
Borderers. A pre-war regular in the Durham Light Infantry, he had left the<br />
army and joined-up at the outbreak of hostilities with the 7th Battalion<br />
KOSB, a territorial unit and was serving in 1915 at Loos when the Battalion<br />
was due to attack the enemy positions.<br />
Struck by a German gas attack, the Borderers were momentarily stunning.<br />
Pipe Laidlaw, with a complete disregard for his own safety, removed his<br />
gas hood and left the trench walking up and down rallying the troops with<br />
his bagpipes.<br />
The second figure of the series depicts Captain Noel Chavasse, who won<br />
the Victoria Cross twice on the Western Front as a RAMC Doctor attached<br />
to the Liverpool Scottish Regiment.<br />
