Referendum for
house density
Dear Sir
A letter in last weeks TWT
November 7, by Tony says it
all about MPs waking up!
Trouble is they are all still
dreaming about winning the
next election without a silly
scandal or diversion between
now and then.
Ryde council is pretending
that they don’t sanction high
rise?
Then why not fight the State
government in a vote by all
residents who live in the area
and get tough with Gladys?
Now they send us a stupid
manor house proposal pamphlet
by the State Government
medium density code.
I went to a meeting by John
Alexander and Kelly O’Dwyer
on foreign investment about
three years ago and my question
was “do you have bi partisan
support for this idea on
foreign investment of NEW
dwellings?”
A pause then the answer:
No.
I then said by the time you
do get support, the apartments
will be built, the cranes
will be gone and they will get
sold and in some cases whole
floors of apartments to foreign
investors.
Where are we now? Just
look out of any high vantage
point like old channel 10 site/
Meadowbank/ Ermington/
to late Ryde council you let
this lot through your gates,
and if you don’t like it protest
strongly, not a weak “looks
like we object” instead of
being a rates and tax collector
for yourself and the State
Government.
HUNTER’S HILL COUNCIL
Letters to the Editor
Dear Sir,
Having just returned from
the City of Ryde’s Remembrance
Day Commemoration
Service at Meadowbank
Park where those
gathered were moved to
reflect on and give thanks
for the service of those who
defended our freedom in
times of war, I wish to acknowledge
the role played
by the Centenary of Anzac
and Commemoration of
World War I Committee.
This group of people, led
by Clr Jerome Laxale and
supported by all councillors
and council staff, has worked
since 2012 to plan, organise
and execute events and activities
to recall the passage of
time over the course of World
War I from 1914 to 1918 and
the decades since that ‘’war
to end all wars’’.
The committee has also
been supported by the Department
of Veterans’ Affairs.
Now, 100 years since the
guns fell silent on the Western
Front, the committee has disbanded
after a voluntary job
well done.
Politicians ignore
terrorist attacks
Dear Sir.
It sickens me to the stomach
how after every terror attack
on Australian soil useless
politicians come out with the
same spiel and BS. .
How we can rise above this
latest incident, how we should
all stick together, that we are all
one etc. etc.
Tell that to the families of
those that have lost loved ones
to these attacks you idiots, or
those that have been injured or
to our brave first respondents
that attend these scenes of
mayhem and sorrow.
What did you think was going
to be the outcome when you lot
in Canberra have flooded our
country with migrants, so called
asylum seekers, and refugees
from third world countries where
in many instances there is no
rule of law.
By my count there have been
at least five terror attacks perpetrated
in Australia against
Australian citizens by people
our stupid politicians and bu-
reaucrats have granted refugee
status to.
There have been dozens more
foiled all costing the Australian
tax payers about six hundred
million dollars per year to monitor
and police.
How many more out there
enjoying the benefits this great
country has to offer, are at this
minute planning more attacks.
It is clear to me that in trying
to convince themselves,us, and
the world, what a great multicultural
country we are, the
boofheads in Canberra have
changed our once beautiful and
innocent way of life, for ever.
David Elliott MP
Dear Sir,
I am deeply sorry for the hurt
my comments have caused
Ms Raper.
I have every intention of respecting
Ms Raper’s wishes
and letting her get on with her
Promoting mega
developments?
Dear Sir,
So what is it with this Council
promoting mega developments?
This proposed secret deal
to allow a 65 storey apartment
block in Macquarie Park is obscene.
Mayor Laxale and his green
alliance voted to approve this
development to be sent to the
Department of Planning (isn’t
that a bit weird that The Greens
supported this?) but is now trying
to tell us he didn’t do it. What
the?
The facts as we know them:
Mayor Laxale and the Greens
voted for this. Almost half of
the Councillors weren’t even in
the meeting when the vote took
place.
At almost 250 metres, this
will be the biggest tower in the
region. And the Mayor is now
trying to tell us he doesn’t like
it. Really?
Well, Mr Mayor, what we don’t
like is the flippant way you are
dealing with Council decisions.
We don’t like that you make
decisions to suit your political
campaign.
Running for state parliament is
one thing but using us residents
and the Council as a political
football is just not on.
You need to decide: Are you
going to look after the interests
of the residents of Ryde or are
you going to look after the interests
of your mates in Macquarie
Street?
You have to decide because
we are getting a bit sick of the
politicking.
Mark Latham
Dear Sir,
Is Mark Latham, politician
and prolific writer including
his book of quotations “A
Conga Line of Suckholes”, the
most despised political figure
in modern times?
Maybe so, but from December
2003 to January 2005, Latham
was Federal Labor Opposition
Leader - and from my memory,
made a very successful and
controlled contribution making
the then PM Howard look very
ordinary indeed.
For Latham’s effort, Labor was
defeated at the 2004 federal
election with a 38 percent primary
vote.
Howard continued to ride on
the back of huge receipts from
the mining boom and the rest
is history including the long
term impact that 2004 federal
election may have had on the
Hunters Hill Guest Column
A Labour of love working with
Kevin Bates on his new book
Each week, for more
than 10 years, Father
Kevin Bates SM has published
a reflection in the
bulletin at the Holy Name
of Mary parish in Hunters
Hill.
The articles speak
to our inner and outer
worlds.
They touch on every
part of lifefrom
faith, love, life and
death, to justice, the
church and cricket!
In what has been a
labour of love, I’ve
worked with Kevin
throughout the year
to bring these pieces
together into a collection
called Glimmers
of Grace.
DANIEL DOMINGUEZ
- an exquisite artist
from Hunters Hill who
specialises in figurative
sculpture - has
drawn 39 pen and ink
illustrations that accompany
each chapter.
The result is a gorgeous
book that’s
covered in real cloth
and has silver shells
that glimmer in light
on the front.
We wanted to make
State Govt love
of privatisation
First the Commonwealth
Bank was privatised; it had
been a means of moderating
the banking industry.
Now look at it.
The Australian Mutual
Provident Society
(AMP), was a mutual society,
then privatised and it
went mad.
The State’s electricity
generating industry was
To The POINT
with Juliette O’Brien
running well at reasonable
charges then it was
privatised. Now besides
just higher prices or their
distributers sell the power
at or above the maximum
specified voltage.
This means that things
like your refrigerator, vacuum
cleaner etc. will consume
more power but not
necessarily with any better
performance.
This costs us all more
money. Effectively stealing
from us.
And now we have sold off
the Land Titles office to a
private company.
Just wait and see how
this affects privacy, costs,
service and security.
PETER ALWAY
Hunters Hill
something that was
physically beautiful
to honour the contents
between the
covers.
The books make
wonderful Christmas
presents too!
If you’re familiar
with Kevin’s reflections
already, you’ll
know that they’re
deeply humane.
They are watchful,
wise, questioning,
challenging, laced
with humour, and always
original, these
reflections feed mind
and spirit.
They appeal to a
wide audience — not
just Catholics, or the
parish — and are relevant
to our times
with insights into
politics, society and
events.
Working with Kevin
this year to collect
and edit those reflections
has been a priv-
It has allowed me
We hope that this
