Neonatal-Non-Invasive-Ventilation-NIV

Neonatal intensive care continues to be one of the most challenging fields in medicine. Fortunately years of experience from careful clinical observation, meticulous research and plenty of tender loving care have helped to significantly increase the chances of survival for our tiny patients. This booklet is an attempt to address the current development process of noninvasive ventilation therapies, both from a theoretical and a practical standpoint.

About the authors
Associate Professor Charles Christoph Roehr is a neonatal
consultant and clinical scientist at the University of Oxford.
His special interest is in neonatal physiology where he focuses
on means of non-invasive respiratory support during
neonatal cardio-pulmonary transition.
Dr Roehr pursued his Paediatric training at the Charité
University Medical Centre in Berlin, Germany and in Oxford,
UK. Following his sub-specialist training as Neonatologist in
Berlin and in Melbourne, Australia he completed his research
and teaching degree (Habilitation) at the Charité Berlin.
Before taking up his current position at Oxford he spent near
to two years as post-doctoral research fellow with Prof. Stuart
Hooper at The Ritchie Centre, and with Prof. Peter Davis, The
Royal Women’s Centre in Melbourne, Australia (2012-14).
An avid researcher and a strong proponent of evidencebased
neonatology, he has published over 80 peer reviewed
scientific manuscripts and several book chapters.
Kreske Brunckhorst (B.Sc.) is a product manager in respiratory
care at Drägerwerk AG & Co.KGaA. She holds a degree
in Engineering and Economics and is currently completing a
masters in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Lübeck.
She is a specialist in the areas of intensive care and neonatal
ventilation and works closely with neonatal intensivists and
respiratory therapists. Kreske uses information and knowledge
gained from this collaboration to translate application trends
and innovation into further developments of ventilation devices
and therapy options. Moreover, she supports product and
ventilation related medical trainings for physicians, nurses
and technology staff.
