Vacation season never ends in Vilas County, it only
changes. On long summer days, Vilas County’s 1,300
lakes and dozens of streams and rivers attract anglers,
paddlers, boaters, swimmers and anyone who loves a
good sunset. In the fall, our maples, oaks and aspen come
alive in brilliant shades of red, yellow and orange and our
cool nights are perfect for relaxing by the fire. Winter brings
a mountain of snow, thanks to our prime location in the
Lake Superior snowbelt. We’re a renowned destination
for winter silent sports, ice fishing and snowmobiling.
In fact, the snowmobile was invented here.
