HEALTH AND SAFETY IN ART STUDIO
Fire Emergencies
If we dicover fire, first we need to do is to activate the nearest
fire alarm pull station.
When we go to the designated assembly area for the
building, do not use elevators.
Painting and Drawing
Some of the painting colour have
chemical in it, read the safety
label before usig it.
Smoking
Smoking in the campus is not allowed. Smoking is prohibited in all
workplaces and places of public access in buildings and outdoor spaces
within 25 feet of all such buildings, including but
not limited to all academic, residential, and
administrative buildings and elevators.

Clean up after using anywhere in the art studio.
Wipe down the work area
Leave at least 10-15 minutes for cleanup.
Never work alone in the art studio.
Accidents could be happen when
working alone.
Working with more than one person
works better and safeter.
Never work when you are tired, stressed, in a hurry or
impaired. Accidents are much more likely to happen when
we can’t focus on our work.

EXAMPLE FOR THE ART HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Solar etching
Process of solar etching:
For solar etching, first use one of the collage that inpired by hannah hoch, and
then photocopy it onto an acetate A6 size image(black and white).
After that, transfer the acetate onto solar plate using UV light box.
First 3 mins for aquatint the screen and then 3 more mins for image to reverse
printing process, so this can make sure the acetate
is reversed.
Finally, having10 mins for exposing the plate in tepid
water and them put it in the UV light box for 3 mins
for ‘hardening’ plate.

HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERN IN SOLAR
ETCHING
While using the UV light box, bare remind whether
the cover of the box has fully closed instead the strong
UV light comes out and it could be harmful if the UV
light illuminate our eyes directly.
When exposing the plate in the tepid water, we need to
wear a pair of gloves to avoid our hands touch the chemical
release from the plate directly.

Be careful while using tolls like scissors and
boundary knife. Concentrade on cutting the
paper and do not distracted by somthing
else.
Be careful while using the printing press,
expesically when you rolling and the press
bed is moving. It will fall down if we roll it
over, and person who using it may get hurt
from the press bed.

HEALTH AND SAFETY IN DRY PRINT
Be very careful when using the tools called burin. The
head of a burin is very sharp.
we need to avoid the head of the burin hurt either
ourself or other people.
