India clinch first Test nail-biter to
end 10-year win drought in Australia
DR
ADELAIDE: India won
their first Test on
Australian soil in a decade
Monday, bowling out the
home side in a nail-biting
finale to clinch the opening
match of the series at
Adelaide Oval with
Rishabh Pant equalling a
world-record along the
way.
The hosts were set an
improbable target of 323,
which would have been a
record run chase at the
ground but gallantly battled
to 291 before Josh
Hazlewood became the last
man to fall to
Ravichandran Ashwin,
who finished with 3-92.
Shaun Marsh made 62 and
Tim Paine 41.
Wicketkeeper Pant
made history by matching
the record 11 catches in a
Test currently held by
ISLAMABAD: Skipper
Mashrafe Mortaza and
Mustafizur Rahman took
three wickets each Sunday
as Bangladesh restricted
West Indies to 195-9 in the
first one-day international
in Dhaka.
West Indies won the
England´s Jack Russell and
South Africa´s AB de
Villiers.
In doing so, he beat the
record 10 catches in a
game by an Indian that was
previously held by
Wriddhiman Saha.
It was a huge breakthrough
for Virat Kohli´s
toss at the Sher-e-Bangla
National Stadium and batted
first on a slow pitch.
The visitors were
reduced to 127-6 after 40
overs despite opener Shai
Hope making 43 off 59
balls.
Roston Chase, who
men, with Australia always
proving a tough hunting
ground.
The last Test they won
in Australia was at the
WACA Ground in Perth in
2008, and the last one in
Adelaide was 2003, with
just six victories now in
more than 70 years -- and
made 32, put on a partnership
worth 51 runs with
Keemo Paul for the seventh
wicket to give West
Indies some momentum.
Paul made 36 off 28
balls with two sixes and a
four before he was dismissed
by Mustafizur in
never one in the first match
of a series Down Under.
Another blot on Indian
cricket history is that they
have never won a series in
Australia.
But with the home team
missing the banned Steve
Smith and David Warner,
Kohli and his team sensed
‘PCB constitution will be
altered to create CEO post’
KARACHI: Pakistan
Cricket Board PCB) chairman
Ehsan Mani said
changes will be made to the
board’s constitution to create
a new chief executive
position.
Mani said the change,
when formally made, will
enable the incoming managing
director Wasim Khan
to become the CEO of the
board.
“The PCB is the only
[cricket] board in the world
which has no chief executive.
We will bring changes
in our constitution to create
a new position and then the
managing director will be
called the chief executive
officer, like it happens
everywhere else,” Mani
told reporters at the
National Stadium.
Wasim, currently serving
as the Leicestershire
County Cricket Club chief
executive, was announced
as the new managing director
of the PCB on Thursday.
“The responsibilities of
a chairman are different
from that of a CEO,” said
Mani. “The managing
director’s duty will be to
run the day-to-day affairs
of the board.”
Constitutionally, Mani
will retain significant powers
within the PCB hierarchy,
but Wasim is expected
to take a leading role in the
board’s corporate governance
framework, working
with the PCB’s board-ofgovernors
committees and
also work for the improvement
of domestic cricket.
Outgoing International
Cricket Council head of
media and communications
Sami-ul-Hasan was also
appointed at the same post
by the PCB on Saturday.
Mani said the appointment
shows PCB’s intent to get
more ‘professionalised’.
“If two people who had
been working in good positions
abroad are willing to
come to Pakistan, it’s a
great sign and the PCB
deserves credit for it,” said
the PCB chief.
the final over of the
innings.
Left-arm pacer
Mustafizur finished with
3-35 after fellow fast
bowler Mashrafe grabbed
3-30 playing his 200th
ODI -- the first
Bangladeshi to do so.
Batsmen must
take responsibility,
says Sarfraz
KARACHI: The embattled
Pakistan captain Sarfraz
Ahmed wants his batsmen to
take responsibility during the
upcoming tough tour of
South Africa.
Talking on the sidelines
of a book launching of a senior
sports journalist, Sarfraz
said on Sunday: “We batted
extremely poorly in the
series against New Zealand
and paid heavily for it. The
batsmen have to take responsibility
and play long innings
in the South Africa series.
This is one big issue that
constantly troubled us in the
10 Test matches Pakistan
have played since the retirement
of Younis [Khan] and
Misbah [-ul-Haq].”
The wicket-keeper/batsman
said the tour of South
Africa would be very
demanding and that Pakistan
have to improve their performance
drastically to challenge
the Proteas. “We did
mistakes against New
Zealand and they were lot of
them. But on the upcoming
tour we’ll try to avoid them
and play positive cricket
against South Africa.”
Sarfraz lamented that
whenever Pakistan lost, the
captain was held responsible
for it. When we win people
usually say Pakistan played
brilliantly but when the team
loses the same people start
blaming the captain.
shifting the odds heavily in
Ozil breaks
with Arsenal
and flies to Inter
NEW YORK: The
adventure of Mesut Ozil at
Arsenal has now reached
the end credits. According
to reports from The Sun, the
London club is not satisfied
with the performance of the
player, who arrived in the
summer of 2013 from Real
Madrid, and would be ready
to sell him in the January
session for just under 28
million euro.
The German player, not
convened in the last two
challenges, would risk staying
out for about two
months because of a back
problem due to the posture
that assumes in front of
video games. Another piece
that would have convinced
the leadership of the
Gunners to get rid of him.
According to the tabloid,
among the pretenders to the
German in the first row
there would be Inter.
