Fashion as Self Expression
Fashion as Self Expression
What is Fashion? Embracing style, trend, and comfort is nothing but the fashion. Fashion in today's
world is compared to air in our planet. It's the most recent developments of our modern society.
Fashion is an excepted manner of dressing, living, entertaining or traveling adopted by a group of
people at a particular time. Fashion has been changing so fast that it is difficult even to recognize what
the current fashion style is? There is undisputedly a wide choice of colors & designs in costumes.
Fashion is a style that is accepted and used by the majority of group at any one time, no matter how
small that group is. Fashion is a vital, challenging, ever-changing force. In recent years significant "anti
fashion" phenomenon has taken over the fashion industry e.g. wearing unconventional colors and fabric
combination. Clothing style different social groups and communities from one another. Sequined dresses,
chic ensembles and trendy shirts and skirts represented the true repertoire of the fashion. Fabrics like
shiny fabrics, sating, polyester, blends and knits are the dominant features of fashion. It has been proven
scientifically that colors play an important role in the psychological behavior of human being. Keeping
these in mind designers are preferring naturally dyed fabrics and natural color.
REFINING STYLE IS ALways risky business, particularly in an area in which whim and
hemline are so interwoven. Nevertheless, to be somewhat arbitrary about it, one could say
that there are three distinct strata in the fashion realm: luxury, real and avant-garde.
The luxury level consists of those women - and there are a surprisingly large number of them
- with the means, and inclination, to indulge in the latest offerings of the world's statussetting
dress designers. These talents - located in Paris, New York and Milan (Galanos, alone,
creates in Los Angeles) - set styles that rapidly seep, through imitation and interpretation,
into clothes for millions of less-affluent women who follow fashion trends.
Then there is the real, encompassing the vast numbers of women who dress to get their work,
whatever it is, done effectively. Because of the excellence of American design and current
mass-production techniques, they too have a style to call their own.
Finally, the avant-garde is just that: women who find pleasure in experimenting with
adventurous, often strange, looks. The newness is usually an extension of personal daring, a
flaunting of the conventional.
Season after season, designers and manufacturers make suggestions to all three
constituencies. Suggestions, not mandates. When it comes to fashion, American women will
no longer take dictation. They pick and choose, leaving their dislikes unsold on the racks.
Therefore, to be fashionable today is to don something as disparate as a Chanel suit, a pair
of blue jeans, a wildly dramatic coat with funnels for sleeves, a hip-sashed sexy chemise
dress, a man's tailored suit. It is a short tight skirt. Also a long flowing one. A fur coat or one
that is down-filled. It is a pair of high-heeled sandals, as well as sensible low-heeled ones;
even running shoes. To dress up means donning a glamorous sequined ball gown, a stark T-
shirt and pants, a demure silk print dress. For work, one gets into a carefully tailored suit, a
sweater and skirt, a multilayered ensemble - or that same demure dress that another woman
wears for an important evening. There are clothes that can be broadly categorized as
sophisticated, familiar or strange; androgynous (a big movement at present) or instantly
recognizable as feminine. There are extremely practical fashions, complicated ones, and
those that make no bones about being frivolous and fragile.
All of this would seem to make for a messy mishmash of notions, difficult to decipher and
defeating for the woman with the interest and inclination to follow fashion trends. Yet there
are certain ballasts that stabilize the situation. For one, there are the designers and
manufacturers who address particular segments of society. The good ones make good points
with what they design and produce, and women quickly come to rec- FASHION VIEW95
Organizers whose merchandise appeals to them, fits them properly and makes them feel well
turned-out for their particular world.
Another ballast is the trust generated by a particular store, salesperson or publication, acting
as a guide in selecting the best of the new from the worst of it.
Ideas may cross over from one group to another, but each segment manifests them in
different ways. A good example is the current vogue of androgynous dressing.
At the luxury level, a Giorgio Armani adapts the suits that he so superbly tailors for men into
sophisticated and sexy attire for women. A Ralph Lauren takes men's clothing classics and
renders them for women in such a way that they become delightfully feminine.
At the real-life level, men's active wear is translated almost verbatim. The fit sometimes is
slightly altered to better adapt to a woman's body, but it is still blue jeans, sweaters, T-shirts,
bomber jackets, jogging and sports gear. The same designs that men wear.
When androgynous is interpreted by the avant-garde, it is usually at its most aggressive.
There often are no gender distinctions between what is worn by either sex. Seen from the
back, a young person, radiating a certain sense of style, may be wearing an oversize man's
jacket, tight pegged pants, crushed down boots. Slung over the shoulder is a big, soft,
pouchy bag. The hair will be shorn short with some fluff on top. If there is a bit of pierced
earring visible, it is probably a woman. Then again, it could also be a young man.
So one could say that the state of style is a mirror held to the style of one's life. To be sure,
there is a certain amount of confusion, since there are no direct dictates. But on the other
hand, there is so much from which to choose, that one can express oneself in clothing just as
clearly as one does in every other aspect of this complicated life.
Fashion Statement trends Fall 2018-Winter 2019
Vogue (Easy wear)
What’s new for next winter? Plenty. Easy wear continues to be big, we’ll still be
wrapping up warm in cozy clothes that make us feel safe, but for 2018 comfort will
also mean an eclectic succession of familiar pieces, that are also fail-safe in the
style stakes. The overall trend might have been towards real clothes that are easy
to throw on and a way of dialling seduction down to the everyday, but fashion didn’t
forget about fun, color and glamour. Next winter will be determined, celebrating
individuality and style with a multitude of trends that are dying to be worn. Choose
Modest is not as Easy Wear
Modesty dressing
In a post Time's Up era, designers experimented with female sexuality and by and large
the silhouette was decidedly covered-up. From extreme layers at Balenciaga (pictured) to
Erdem's evening dresses worn over prim shirts and stockings, hemlines were kept low
and necklines high. Tailoring too was big news - especially at Alexander McQueen and
Stella McCartney.. This is, of course, not new news, but never has modesty been more
pervasive than this season - bar the exceptions of Christopher Kane and Saint Laurent.
Big Is Still In
There was a time for skimpy,
but the fall/ winter 2018
runway trends are steering
clear of that on. On the
contrary, we are going for
oversized everything once
again this year, despite it
already having dominated the
catwalk for a few years now.
Eye-catching colors and
multiple layers make for looks
that really stand out from the
crowd, drowning you in the
sheer size and lack of
definition around your curves,
even more so with the
oversized coats.
We also have oversized
handbags for fall 2018, such
as the matching laundry
basket style seen at Marni.
Even the scarves are
oversized to match with anklelength
broad shouldered
overcoats as per Marc
Jacobs. Though some of the
Maison Margiela pieces
remind us of tents with a
human hidden inside.
One of the top fall 2018
fashion trends you notice on
the multitude of runway shows
over the span of each Fashion
Week is the maxi lengths on
models showing off nearly no
skin. Most designers have
opted for lengths past the
calves, generally swishing
below the ankle, many falling
to the floor.
It is a long and lean look that
has us really wanting to grab
a Valentino crisp white dress
suit, complete with a scarf
around the neck that falls to
bellow one’s knees. The
colors that go with the long
looks are spectacular, the
lean working best with a bright
white deal.
Matrix coats, leather dresses,
long billowing organza in floral
prints; nearly every trend was
all about coverage, while each
designer also tried to
showcase the opposite, going
for shirt skirts, tall boots, and
even a few plunging necks.
Modest and monastic is how
fall 2018 is being described
though, which means that you
certainly do not need to be
showing any skin at all if you
prefer not to.
Savile Row
Style Men’s
Overcoats
Get ready for classic Savile
Row fabrics on men’s style
overcoats as part of your fall
2018 fashion trends wardrobe.
Large shoulders, boxy coupe,
and lots of length make for
some intriguing coats to pull
over your lovely dresses come
the cooler months once again.
It has swagger, it is lit, and it
is rocking the style reports
across the board. You can
pair with a shiny black number
that shows off lots of leg and
cleavage as per Saint
Laurent, with bulky boots as
per Prada, with flowy skirts
and futuristic gloves as per
Calvin Klein, or over colorful
leather as we saw at the
Stella McCartney runway
show.
Lapels on the overcoats also
look quite darling as seen at
Fendi or given some waist
definition with a leather belt as
per Givenchy.
Layer Upon
Layer
One of the biggest fall/ winter
2018-2019 fashion trends is
the 3-5 layer style, particularly
when using oversized and
deconstructed pieces as seen
at the Marni runway show.
Really, it is a wonder anyone
is able to walk around with so
many layers on.
Some even include a
combination of pants and
tunics, while so many on the
runways throughout the
Fashion Weeks simply
appeared to throw on piece
over piece. Some looked
great, such as a Calvin Klein
foil dress over a turtleneck
statement sleeve sweater.
Others were not quite so tidy,
appearing more like a pile was
tossed onto a body. But one
thing we know for sure is that
you can play with layers all
you want and still stay very
much in style come the cooler
seasons.
Keyhole
Plunges
First it was a deep plunge,
then it was a deeper plunge;
now, we are looking at
keyhole plunges that both
show off a braless chest and
still manage to cover up
enough to be appropriate for
the cooler weather.
Coach combines the folklore
heartland theme with some
lovely keyhole plunges that
are shorter than some of the
others we come across, while
Chloe makes sure we get a
good amount of exposure,
starting high at the nick and
ending low on the diaphragm.
Broad
Shoulders
As part of the oversized trend
going strong for the cooler
months, large puffy sleeves
and big shoulders are
dominating the market. This
includes the Marc Jacob
number that reminds us of an
olden detective movie in red.
Broad shoulders on suits are
also a common sight these
days, signifying a female
strength we have generally
always hidden. Dolan’s hot
pink plaid design in an
oversized fit seems to fit this
category perfectly.
Five Ways to Have More Fun at Work
Forbes Report by
Christine Comaford
I write about leveraging neuroscience to create remarkable leadership.
Here are five ways to have more fun at work.
1. Create games and contests for your company values. One of my clients had a minigolf
tournament, right in the office. Employees navigated treacherous obstacles like the
copy machine, the reception area and the recycling center. Each hole was a plastic cup
with a company value, theme or story topic on it. Once an employee hit the ball into the
hole they had to pause and tell others nearby a short story about what the
value/theme/story meant to them. Some clients host annual competitions for which
department makes the coolest/weirdest/most amazing gingerbread house, gingerbread
haunted house, gingerbread turkey.
15

Entertainment
2. Share community service experiences. Think back to the most powerful memories
you have. They’re powerful because they are emotional—whether inspiring and uplifting or
challenging with some struggle or trauma. Giving money to charities is cool, but donating
time is far more emotional. Can you do it together? And if you do donate funds, have your
team share the difference they make. At our company, every team member receives a
giving budget each year. It’s very cool to learn what causes move our team members and
how their budget made a difference!
3. Embrace celebration and appreciation. Are you celebrating successes on a regular
basis through visible appreciation? A few examples are high five emails to the team,
leaderboards showing employees who are achieving their needle movers and weekly
round-up emails listing individual employee’s wins. You can create some wacky and
unique awards that your team can strive for as well. I worked with one team where
everyone took old-time western photos (in awesome cowboy costumes) and they created
Wanted posters. They were wanted by the law for eating all of the snacks in the break
room or for using all of the printer ink. Everyone had a great time deciding what wanted
sign would say and how much their bounty cost.
4. Incorporate mindfulness practices on a regular basis. Every highly accomplished
leader I know learns to stop the world and to stop their thoughts on command. This is one
of the best ways to make key decisions. They use mindfulness practices on a daily basis.
Why not make this a part of your office culture? Try having a monthly event where your
team can learn a new mindfulness practice, such as meditation or yoga. If you really want
to have fun, try a laughter yoga class they are a blast!
5. Celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries. Are you celebrating these special
days? A card with a handwritten note has a huge positive impact and reminds team
members that they are valued. Having cake or another special treat for the team is a great
way to bring the team together and for them to have a chance to bond. If you are in a
position to give a small gift, find out what the person really enjoys. Generic gift cards or
standard gifts are great but a personalized gift is far more meaningful.
All work and no play makes us crabby and dull! Where there is laughter, joy and fun, highperformance
teams thrive. There are countless ways to have fun and even attach
empowering meaning to it at the same time. The above ideas will get you started!
How are you helping your employees have fun?
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid would like all of the people who say
that she doesn't deserve her success to kindly get a
reality check.
While speaking at an event on Friday, Gigi
addressed critics who think that she only got to
where she is today because of her privileged
upbringing. (Reminder: her father Mohamed
Hadid is a very successful real estate developer,
and her mother Yolanda Hadid is a former model
and used to be on The Real Housewives of Beverly
Hills.) According to the Daily Mail, Gigi said:
People say that I don't deserve to be where I
am because I come from this successful
family, but my parents were fucking hardworking...My
dad was a refugee, my mum was
on a farm, went to New York and worked to
send money back to her family. They worked
their asses off and they've given me a life
because of their hard work, and I work hard to
honor that.
In addition to pointing out her own work ethic,
Gigi mentioned that she knows the kind of people
who only got to where they are because of
nepotism, and that she doesn't think very highly of
them. She said, "I've worked with them, they
suck." Yikes.
So what we've learned today, friends, is that Gigi
does not like people undermining her
accomplishments (understandable!), and that if
you ever get the chance to work with her, you
better bring your A game.
Are you eating too
much sugar? You are
(hangry) most of the
time......
how can you tell if your sugar intake is higher
than it should be? Because everyone's body is
different, we'll each have different reactions to
sugar intake - and each of us has a different
personal "maximum." Clinical nutritionist and
detox specialist Autumn Bates, CCNshared a few
telltale signs you can keep an eye on to decide if
it's time to cut back.
Mood Swings
If you haven't been feeling like the nicest or
happiest version of yourself, your diet could be
to blame. "A high-sugar diet can cause you to
have severe mood swings," said Bates. This is
"due to the rise and fall in blood glucose levels -
think 'hangry'." We've been there! "This happens
because sugar is absorbed much more quickly
into your body than fat or protein, so this results
in a surge of energy and a very sudden drop.
That drop can cause you to feel moody, angry,
anxious, annoyed, and really hungry." Limiting
your intake of sweets could potentially balance
out your mood and lead to more positive
feelings overall.
The world's biggest tobacco companies is diving into the cannabis market with a
$1.8 billion buy-in.
Marlboro maker Altria Group Inc. is taking a 45 percent stake in Cronos Group,
the Canadian medical and recreational marijuana provider said Friday.
The agreement includes a warrant to acquire additional shares over the next four
years that could give the Altria, which is based in Richmond, Virginia, a 55
That would mean Altria's investment would be in the same league as the $4
billion spent earlier this year by Constellation Brands to acquire shares of
Canopy Growth Corp., another Canadian pot producer.
The August investment by Constellation, which makes Corona and other
beverages, was the largest to date by a major U.S. corporation in the cannabis
market.
Whatever hesitation larger corporations in the U.S. had about entering the
cannabis market appears to be fading if there is a financial justification.
Altria's huge investment lit up shares of cannabis companies that have begun to
set up shop in Canada, where recreational use was legalized this year.
U.S. traded shares of of Cronos Group Inc. jumped 22 percent Friday.
Rapid growth in the cannabis market is expected to continue as legalization
expands in the U.S. and social norms change. On Tuesday, ultra-conservative
Utah became the latest state to legalize marijuana use for medical
purposes.
Consumers are expected to spend $57 billion per year worldwide on legal
cannabis by 2027, according to Arcview Market Research, a cannabis-focused
investment firm. In North America, that spending is expected to grow from $9.2
billion in 2017 to $47.3 billion in 2027.
Simple Ways to Lose Love Handles
and Lower Belly Fat Fast
Love handles are the layer of side fat spilling over the waistline of pants.
The fat spillage is also known as “muffin top” or “spare tire”, taking its name from its resemblance.
Without a doubt, side belly fat's got many cute, harmless nicknames.
But that's as far as the cuteness of the love handles and muffin top goes.
Then there is lower belly fat, the center abdominal fat that creates crates when you sit.
Love handles and lower belly fat are not only the most dangerous fat in the body but also hardest to
lose.
Many attempts to spot reduce this specific belly fat with countless sit-ups. While others fiercely target
the obliques and repeat gazillion side crunches.
But the truth is, that's not an effective approach to losing love handles and getting rid of lower belly
fat.
According to a Yale study, high-level stress may cause excess abdominal fat, even in slender women
The study explains that high level of cortisol (stress hormone) can be responsible for fat storage
around your midsection.
Simply put, stress formulates the perfect path way to the lower belly fat.
The more stress you have, the more cortisol you'll build up, and more fat you accumulate, especially
in the belly area.
In addition to an increase of fat storage around the abdominal region, stress also drives people to eat
more than they normally do.
And for most women, when the stress hits and the hunger skyrockets, they often reach out for
comfort foods like fatty fries and sugary cakes.
British Nutrition Foundation calls this phenomenon "stress-induced changes in eating behavior .
In easier terms, we are wired to grab sugary, fatty food during cortisol surge and high-stress time.
This is true even for healthy weight women.
In fact, their study notes anywhere from 65-85% of women are at risk of stress-induced changes in
eating and body weight changes.
After all, all those foods we call comfort foods truly send our brain the signal of pleasure and comfort
and really comfort our brains at the time of stress.
This makes reaching for healthier alternatives really hard when everything your body is craving is
fatty, sugary foods.
All these excess calories do not get distributed and stored as fat evenly throughout the body.
Instead, cortisol promotes fat storage in the stomach area. And this can be cyclical.
A recent sutudy show women with a larger waistline is more prone to secrete cortisol at the time of
stress, creating a recurring cycle
This constant battle of giving in can surely lead to weight gain around the belly, let alone trimming
lower belly fat.
Your Action plan: The first strategy to fight the battle of stress eating is to stay clear. keeping
sugary snacks and fatty foods handy just makes the matter worse.
Instead, stock your fridge with "healthy snacks" such as Greek Yogurt, apple, hummus, cottage
cheese— belly fat friendly foods.
And throw away anything you know you shouldn't be eating or snacking on constantly.
Because with "chronic stress", the chances are, you will be snacking them much more frequently
than you should.
The folks at Harvard health also recommend these lower intensity exercises to reduce high cortisol
levels.
Meditation // Taking a few minutes daily to meditate can reduce stress. Meditation may also benefit
people in making more mindful food choices.
Exercise // High-intensity activities increase cortisol levels temporarily, but low-intensity exercise
seems to reduces them according to researchers at the University of California.
Low-intensity exercises include yoga and tai chi.
2. Reduce Your Sugar Intake
Your body can only handle so much sugar, one to two teaspoons at a time max. Anything more than
that has the potential to be converted into body fat.
Whether naturally occurred or added, sugars are carbs and listed under total carbohydrates on
nutritional labels. Usually, one figure sums the total sugar content, but naturally occurring sugars
and added sugars are different in nature.
Naturally occurring sugars which include fructose can be found in fruits, other plant-foods, and
lactose (milk).
Added sugars include white sugar, brown sugar, honey, corn syrup, fruit nectars, fructose, and
dextrose.
It's a type of sugar that gets added to a food or beverage during their preparation and processing,
hence the name. It's not naturally occurred as the first type of sugar.
On nutritional labels, both sugars are listed as grams, a metric measurement of weight. And for
many, this gram measurement is not familiar or easy to interpret.
That's because a more approach to measuring something of small volume in America is teaspoons or
tablespoons, especially in recipes. And to determine how much sugar you are consuming throughout
the day, it's important to know how to convert from grams to teaspoons.
With that, you can learn to properly manage your sugar intake.
So let's get started.
This can be a sure way to reduce your sugar intake.
• Sugars: 4 grams equal to 1 teaspoon.
Using this equation you can easily look at any food product to see how much sugar or more precisely
how many teaspoons of sugar it contains.
To start, take the gram listed for one serving and divide it by four to convert to teaspoons.
The chart below shows a few examples and demonstrates how to convert the sugar content of a 20
oz sugar containing beverage. Column 1 shows the sugar in teaspoons for drinking 8 oz, column 2
shows the sugar content for 16 oz, and column 3 shows sugar for the entire 20 oz (7).
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
Beverage = 8 ounces (1 cup) Beverage =16 ounce (2 cups) Beverage =20 ounces (entire
container)
Calories: 110 Calories: 220 Calories: 330
Sugars: 28 grams Sugars: 56 grams Sugars: 70 grams
Conversion: 28 grams divided
by 4 = 7 teaspoons of sugars
Conversion: 56 grams divided
by 4 = 14 teaspoons of sugar
Conversion: 70 grams divided
by 4 = 17 ½ teaspoons of sugar
According to Rush University Medical Center, "sugar increases belly fat" and fiber reduces belly fat.
Sugar is one of the biggest reason people gain weight.
Sugar is made up of half glucose and half fructose, and fructose only gets metabolized by the liver.
With high consumption of refined sugar, the liver gets burdened with fructose and ends up turning it
all into fat.
It's been seen by a number of studies that excess sugar, fructose, in particular, can lead to
accumulation of belly fat.
Simply put, sugar increases belly fat and liver fat, which leads to insulin resistance and a host of
metabolic problems. Many experts believe this is the primary cause of sugar's harmful effects on
one's health.
Liquid calories are considered the worse since they don't get registered by the brain in the same way
as solid calories, so when you drink sugary drinks, you end up consuming more calories without even
knowing it.
Reducing your sugar intake will not only help you lose belly fat but also your bodyweight as well.
But please note that none of this applies to the whole, fresh fruits.
Though fruits contain sugar, they are considered extremely healthy as their high fiber content
mitigates the negative effects of fructose.
Moreover, the level of fructose you find in fruits is a fraction of what you see in sugary products.
Your Action plan: Start reading nutrition facts and labels to understand how much sugar food
contains. Be sure to use the chart above to see how many teaspoons of sugar are in each product.
This will help you be more mindful of how much sugar you're taking in daily. Cutting back on refined
sugar may help reduce your belly fat.
3. Add More Fiber to Your Diet
It is well known that high fiber diet can help with weight loss.
This is true, but unfortunately, dietary fiber in the average Americans diet today is at an all-time low,
with less than three percent of Americans meeting their recommended daily fiber intake.
That is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men a day.
This is equivalent to eating one cup of raspberries (8 grams of fiber), one cup of blackberries (7.6
grams of fiber) or 1 cup of lentils or black beans, and you'll be well over your dietary fiber intake for
the day.
Of course, this is just one example of fiber rich foods, but there are tons of other high-fiber foods you
can eat.
But just keep in mind that not all fiber foods are created equal.
Soluble fiber seems to have the greatest impact on your weight and belly fat.
Soluble fiber absorbs water and forms a gel like texture that helps slow down food as it passes
through your digestive system.
Studies have found this type of dietary fiber to be very effective in helping people lose weight by
making them feel full so they naturally eat less.
Soluble fiber may also help decrease the number of calories your body absorbs from food.
In addition to helping you lose weight, soluble fiber may help you lose your belly fat, especially the
dangerous visceral abdominal fat that wraps around your internal organs.
An observational study of 339 African Americans and 775 Hispanic Americans ranging from age 18-
81 years found that for every 10-gram increase in soluble fiber intake, belly fat gain decreased by
3.7% over a 5-year period.
It seems eating a high fiber diet can help decrease your abdominal fat.
If you want to get rid of your belly fat including the fat in your lower belly, make an effort to
consume high-fiber foods every day.
Soluble fiber can be found in foods such as flaxseeds, Brussels sprouts, avocados, legumes, and
blackberries.
Just 1 cup of cooked lentils contains 16 grams of dietary fiber, which is 63% of your daily
recommended value, and 18 grams of high-quality protein.
4. Eat More Protein to Lose Belly Fat
A high-protein diet has been proven effective in reducing cravings by 60%, boosting metabolism by
up to 100 calories per day, and helping you eat fewer calories throughout the day.
But that's not all what protein is good for.
Evidence shows that protein is also particularly good for fighting off belly fat.
One study shows that protein consumption has an inverse relationship with excess belly fat. That is
people who ate more and better protein had much less abdominal fat.
One Denmark study shows protein's direct link to a reduced risk of belly fat gain over a 5-year
period.
Also, as it turns out, the "best diet to lose belly fat" may be a high protein diet.
A great starting point for an "ideal protein diet" is to include proteins that make up 25 to 30% of total
calories.
Make an effort to include proteins in every meal.
Protein doesn't have to be meat based. Plant protein is a great protein source with fewer fats and
near zero cholesterol.
Good high plant-based protein foods include tofu, lentils, beans, nuts, quinoa, spirulinaand even
some whole grains products. Learn to include them in your diet for a good protein meal.
5. Eat Healthy Fats
It may sound counterintuitive to eat fat to lose fat, but adding healthy fats like coconut oil to your
meals is in fact pretty effective and helpful in losing abdominal fat.
The effectiveness can even magnify when you replace harmful, unhealthy fats with good ones.
For example, fats like trans fats, known as partially hydrogenated fats often found in margarine and
spreads are your belly fat villain. In animal testing, a 33% belly fat gain was seen in animals on a
high transfat diet compared to the ones on a diet high in monounsaturated fats.
Trans fats have also been named as a cause of insulin resistance, heart diseases, and belly fat gain in
animal studies. Needless to say, it's best to be avoided and replaced with their healthier
counterparts.
As opposed to trans fats, a moderate consumption of coconut oil may help with metabolism boost as
well as the reduction in belly fat, suggested by controlled studies .
In one 12-week study, obese men lost on average 1.1 inches in waists after taking coconut oil every
day.
The best result has been seen when 2 tablespoons or 30ml of coconut oil are taken daily.
6. Drink Water Regularly
Water is a missing puzzle piece for many people when trying to lose belly fat, and it's essential you
drink plenty of water daily.
There are several reasons for this, and one is your cells need to be well hydrated to burn fat, and
dehydration can be stall the process.
The second reason is its positive effect on daily total calorie consumption.
One study reported having a few glasses of water prior to a meal can lower your calorie intake by up
to 75 calories a meal by expanding one's stomach and providing satiety.
Ditching sodas for water can also contribute to belly fat reduction by slashing 300-400 calories a day
from sugary drinks.
For maximum benefits, keep yourself hydrated with water throughout the day and be sure to have a
glass before starting a meal.
7. Drink Lemon Water
Love drinking juice? It's one habit you need to be prepared to toss to reduce your abdominal fat.
A better, more belly fat friendly alternative is lemon water. This infused water is particularly known
to help decrease your weight and body fat.
This is, in fact, no surprise considering lemon is a popular weight loss food with soluble pectin fiber
that is known to bring satiety by expanding in your stomach.
Lemons, mostly made up of soluble fiber are also effective in improving gut health, slowing the
digestion and starches.
These effects are believed to aid in blood sugar management and help with weight loss and fat loss
which includes your belly fat.
8. Take Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a recent craze, but its health benefits have been known and proven for years.
And having a tablespoon a day can be effective for your belly fat loss too.
Several animal studies have confirmed that a compound called acetic acid in apple cider vinegar
contributes to a reduction in belly fat storage.
In another 12-week study done on obese men, 1.4 cm or half an inch of reduction in waists was seen
as a result of daily apple cider vinegar consumption.
For best results, take 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar a day for your abdominal fat loss.
9. Do Aerobic Exercises
Aerobic exercise is best known for burning calories, helping people to lose weight fast, and improving
your heart health.
But did you know cardio is also one of the most effective forms of exercise to losing belly fat?
According to a new study, the best type of exercise to burn unhealthy belly fat is aerobic exercise.
In their 8-month study, participants who performed aerobics reduced 2.5 square inches of their belly
fat, a greater fat loss than those who combined aerobics with weight lifting.
The effectiveness of aerobic exercise for losing belly fat, particularly visceral fat is also cited by a few
other sources. But what we don't know conclusively yet is whether moderate or high-intensity cardio
brings better results.
More research is to come out in this area.
Another variable proven to be critical in exercise for fat loss is how often and how much you exercise.
In short, it's consistency that seems to bring the most success to belly fat reduction and loss of total
body fat.
A case study that involved postmenopausal women saw success in fat loss from all areas with 300-
10. Do Resistance Training
Based on the findings in the earlier sections, cardio benefits for belly fat, you can be doubtful of the
effectiveness of resistance training including weight lifting and strength training for fat loss, but don't
underestimate their training.
According to studies in people diagnosed of pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease,
resistance training, is still needed and effective in fighting your abdominal obesity and melting belly
fat, especially the dangerous visceral fat.
This benefit was visible in a study in overweight teenagers who lost the greatest amount of visceral
fat by incorporating both resistance training and cardio in their exercise regimens.
11. Get More Sleep
The easiest way to lose belly fat is to get adequate, quality sleep at night, as sleep is an essential
part of your health, weight, and belly fat.
A long study involving 68,000 women shows those who sleep 7 hours or more at night is less likely to
gain weight than those sleep for 5 hours or less.
Those with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea are also more prone to gaining visceral fat.
To prevent any weight gain and waist expansion, aim at least 7 hours of sleep at night, and speak
with your doctor with any sleep issues.
12. Try Intermittent Fasting
Think of intermittent fasting as a short-term, temporary fasting if you are not familiar.
It's more of an eating schedule that gives your tummy a break from eating in the 24-hour period.
The actual pattern seems to vary per programs, but typical ones involve 16 hours of fasting a day,
leaving you the rest of 8 hours to consume food.
In some studies, intermittent fasting has shown 4-7 % decrease in belly fat within 6-24 weeks.
This is a more advanced technique and may require more careful planning, but for the easiest
application, you can set your first meal at 11 am and last meal at 7 pm, leaving you the
recommended 16 hours to empty out your stomach.
The theory behind it is that emptying your stomach and depriving of the main energy source for a
fat.
It's as simple as this; the more fat your body utilizes and burns, more fat loss results you see.
13. Drink Green Tea
Matcha is a trending word that makes a regular appearance on medical magazines to Starbucks
menus today for its health benefits.
And of course, matcha is a traditional Japanese word for their be-loved health drink, green tea.
Over the years, green tea has spread and attracted devoted fans across the world and is growing
without boundaries.
Unlike many popular health trends, green tea's popularity is not just a hype or without basis. It's a
solid drink with powerful health benefits like boosting metabolism and decreasing body fat.
Studies show the source is in caffeine and antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a catechin
found in green tea and known to be linked to effective belly fat loss.
Some studies further report fat loss benefits of green tea are even greater when combined with
exercise.
To make a matter simple and cover the bases, make it a habit to have a glass or cup of green tea
after each workout. According to science, it'll be helpful in reducing your belly fat.
14. Change Your Lifestyle
Since a good friend tells it like it is, here we go.
Be ready to change your ways and adopt at least few to see any change in your belly fat. Just doing
one thing from the list won't quite cut it and bring any visible and measurable result you want to see.
And for that, you need to combine different methods and penetrate the efforts, and that's what
ultimately brings real fat loss success.
MCM Special Topic: Human Photographic Memory
have it.
You might not have it, that make not everyone
“You might expect that an individual who claims to still see a picture after it
has been removed would be able to have a perfect memory of the original
picture. After all, a perfect memory is what is usually implied by the commonly
used phrase "photographic memory." Scientificamerican.com
Photographic memory is a term often used to describe a person who seems able to recall visual
information in great detail. Just as a photograph freezes a moment in time, the implication for people
thought to have photographic memory is that they can take mental snapshots and then recall these
snapshots without error. However, photographic memory does not exist in this sense.
It is easy to demonstrate this by asking people who think they have photographic memory to read two
or three lines of text and then report the text in reverse order. If memory worked like a photograph,
these people would be able to rapidly reproduce the text in reverse order by "reading" the photo.
However, people cannot do this.
Memory is more like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle than a photograph. To recollect a past
event, we piece together various remembered elements and typically forget parts of
what happened (the color of the wall, the picture in the background, the exact words
that were said). Passing over details helps us to form general concepts.
We are good at remembering the gist of what happened and less good at remembering
(photographically) all the elements of a past scene. This is advantageous because what
is important for memory is the meaning of what was presented, not the exact details
present at any given time.
Of course, people vary in their ability to remember the past. How well we remember
things depends largely on how well we pay attention when material is presented.
Additionally, the extent to which we replay the material in our minds and relate it to
what we already know affects our ability to remember.
Some people with excellent memory use elaborate techniques to help them remember.
Others are able to effortlessly recall vast amounts of autobiographical information
spanning most of the lifetime. Scientists are learning more about memory by studying
these people, as well as people who have very poor memory as the result of neurological
injury or disease.
