Bunka
Bunka embroidery is created by using
a unique combination of punch needle
and special silk-like rayon thread.
When completed, many pictures resemble
delicately shaded paintings. In
fact, the needle is held and operates in
much the same manner as an artist’s
brush or pencil. The Bunka artist uses
many different stitch techniques in
order to achieve the desired effect of
depth and interest, but unlike other
forms of needle art, there are no knots
to tie and mistakes are easily corrected.
This group is for all skill levels
and meets every Wednesday from
9:15 a.m. to noon.

Craft Group
Welcome to the New Year. The last
one has been great. Our sales are over
the top. I hope you all had a great
Christmas and you are ready for this
coming year. Again, thanks for all the
hard work you do.
Cribbage
Come out and have lots of fun playing
cribbage on Tuesdays from 12:45-4
pm. The cost is $2 per visit, first visit
is free for newcomers. This game is
for everyone including beginners, hasbeen
players and pros. The fees go
toward prizes for different scores, supplies
and the rest to the GWSA. The
players are very helpful and patient in
helping you count and answering
questions. New members welcome
and instruction is available. For more

Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the Dining
Room. The club plays Mexican

Golf
For 2019, we will play on Mondays at
different courses around Guelph,
Cambridge and Kitchener/Waterloo
from the first week in May to the last
Monday of September. Traditionally,
we have over 300 members split into 3
golf groups (see below). For information
and/or to register for golf, do
so at the Evergreen front desk starting
in February 2019.
The executive of the Evergreen Golf
Club is looking for new members to
help organize the golf. If you are interested,
contact Ted Pritchard at 519-

8414. The co-ordinators for 2019 are:
18 Hole A Group, TBA, 18 Hole B
Group, George Hughes, and 9 Hole
Group, David Halfpenny. The cost to
join the Evergreen Golf Club for the
2019 season is $10.00 plus HST.
Hearing Improvement
The Hearing Improvement Committee
of Guelph has the objective of helping
fellow citizens with hearing loss by co
-operating with and assisting professionals
who deal with it; promoting
hearing accessibility within our own
community; holding regular information
sessions to encourage greater
understanding of the problem and
what is available to help it.
We meet the first Wednesday of
each month from October through
May from 2-3:30 pm. We discuss
problems affecting those with hearing
loss and try to find solutions. Our
meetings also have a social component.

Line Dancing
We have recently changed our Thursday
class from intermediate to beginner
and improved to accommodate
those who are unable to attend Mondays.
Our classes are for beginner to improver
(beginner plus).
Mondays - 9:30 am to 11:45 am.
We teach basic steps at 9:15 am.
Thursdays - 1 to 3 pm. We teach basic
steps at 12:45 pm.
Come dance and have fun with us all
year long.
Into Focus Photography Club
The November - December theme for
our club photographs was Christmas
Traditions. This gives us the chance to
capture images and moments that reflect
the holiday season. The photographs
will hang in the Evergreen
Restaurant until the end of January.
Our regular meetings are on the last
Monday of each month, but this year
that fell on Christmas Eve. As a result,
we combined our meeting with a social
pot luck social on December 17.
Our theme for January is “silhouettes”.
The dominant element of the
picture is hard to see because it is a
dark outline against a bright background.
You’ll be able to see how our
members tackled this theme when you
go into the Evergreen Restaurant in
February.
We are a friendly group of amateur
photographers with equipment ranging
from mobile phones and point and
shoot cameras to fancy DSLR models.
We share a common interest in photography
as a hobby and we learn
from each other. New members are
always welcome.
