THE TONI&GUY LEGACY COLLECTION

PAYS HOMAGE TO ITS HERITAGE,

CELEBRATES ITS 600 STRONG GLOBAL

SALON NETWORK AND PROMOTES ITS

UNIFIED INTERNATIONAL

EDUCATION PROGRAMME.

THESE NOTABLE TONI&GUY FACTORS

HAVE BEEN RE-INTERPRETED BY THE

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC TEAM

AS THE ‘HAIR TREND CYCLE,’

WHICH IS MADE UP OF THREE PARTS:

VINTAGE, CONTEMPORARY AND CREATIVE.

A Vintage cut or colour begins as a creative concept, which gradually softens and

becomes more socially acceptable i.e. ‘contemporary’.

And, through its on-going popularity and source of inspiration the style(s) reverts back

to being Vintage. For example, the timeless bob.

Contemporary represents trend-led work from around the world – TONI&GUY have always been

renowned for its leading-edge salon work, translating seasonal trends into wearable, modern styles.

Drawing upon our Future Foundation, Beginner’s Barbering and Colour Menu core cut and

colour techniques, we have been able to design an approach that allows hairdressers to have the

creative freedom to be individuals day-to-day within the salon.

Creative is expressed through our advanced education courses such as: Creative Cut & Colour,

Session & Editorial, Creative Men’s and Balayage & Blend, which largely uses a freehand technique.

And, our long-standing partnership with London Fashion Week and London Fashion Week Men’s –

these looks are forward-thinking expressions within hair, allowing hairdressers to push boundaries.

Our inspiration from street fashion is still ongoing and our collaborations with designers means

we are season fresh with creative ideas.

Underpinning the three elements is the principles of home design.

Across the collection, perimeters, interiors and detailing were used :

Perimeters focused on the outline to create structure

Detailing is the art of the space internally

Interiors give over to the texture and finishing

Sacha again worked closely with International Artistic Director and Head of Education,

Cos Sakkas, award-winning Artistic team, photographer Jack Eames,

stylist Sara Dunn and make-up artist Lan Nguyen to help bring to life her vision and the

essence of this new collection.

label.m’s MainStage event at ExCel in London’s Docklands, which combined a

showcase of the technical of creative

skills of this superbrand, with a heartwarming

family-led tribute to founder,

CEO and industry icon, Toni Mascolo,

the 1st anniversary of whose passing was commemorated this December. MainStage added

hugely to the richly diverse array of hair events that were held over Salon International

weekend, which also included The Alternative Hair Show, the AIPP International Awards

and RUSH Live. On the international hairdressing front, two major events stood out: firstly

Goldwell’s spectacular Global Zoom event, which took place in Toronto and is scheduled to

take place in Vienna later in 2019; then in early November Wella Professionals descended in

huge numbers upon Lisbon for this year’s International Trend Vision Awards. Both shows,

plus the many more that have taken place around the world during the past 3 months, are

testament to the ever-increasing influence that hairdressing has in terms of global creativity.

review SS19

From naturally cascading braids to finger-waves; up-dos

intertwined with flowers and freedom locks with a nomadic

influence, oh... and everything in-between. Cue SS19!

Edeline Lee

Edeline Lee

TIGI Professional

Edeline Lee, showing her SS19 show at London Fashion Week wanted her models to

have hair that was neat and tight on the top of the hair and bigger through the ends,

so the Andrew Jose Team + TIGI Session Team used their hands to get a natural sleek

movement on the top of the crown, and then used pins to put the hair in place just

behind ears, back-combing underneath to make it big but maintaining wavy movement.

Xu Zhi

Fudge Professional

At Xu Zhi, Johnnie Biles used Fudge Professional for a hair look centred around creating a strong vision, with

gentle waves softened the look to represent a collection inspired from the 19th Century American poet, Emily

Dickinson; at Malene Oddershede Bach, Stefan Bertin was inspired by twirling vines and flowers for a pretty

understated femininity; at Zandra Rhodes, James Oxley varied style and texture from high shine to fluffy matte,

slick ponytails to pixie crops. All used Fudge Professional.

Wella Professionals

The spirit of a Nomadic lifestyle adds a tough romance to the look and, to complement it, Eugene Souleiman creates

wonderfully wild locks at Preen SS19 by Thornton Bregazzi which are truly reminiscent of a gypsy-inspired aesthetic.

Eugene and his hair team worked hard to emulate the Nomadic influence of the collection within the hair, taking the

delicate wispiness of the girls’ locks and enhancing their natural hair to create an intricate yet undone style.

The International TONI&GUY Session Team were backstage superstars

KMS

At Simone Rocha SS19, James Pecid used KMS to create hair inspired by a tomboy twist on a sophisticated

Sunday-best up-do. Tons of texture was worked in, offset by messy loose strands around the face. Jawara also

used KMS at Peter Pilotto SS19 to deliver lived-in party hair with slick, no-volume roots and naturally textured

ends, inspired by the party girl who's carefree attitude is still effortlessly chic.

How glam can you go? That’s the question we asked

HOB Salons

‘Someone or something that causes excitement and admiration because of its style or attractive appearance.’ That’s

the official definition of glamour and it's bang on-trend. The AW18/19 runways have taught us that we should have

long ditched the grungy, festival looks that took hold in the summer and charge, all guns blazing, into the festive

world of high-glamour. And that doesn’t just apply to Christmas: expect lots of red-carpet glitz to be shimmering

through the gloom of January and February too! HOB Salons created this unique texture (above left) by tonging the

hair, then “ruching” the hair upwards with fingers from the ends to the roots and securing with a pin. An intricate

technique that retains an element of dishevelled sexiness and totally responds to the brief when talking glam hair.

For her Epoque collection (opposite top left), Krysia Eddery from Perfectly Posh Hair Design drew inspiration from

the 1960s - an era which, thanks to the styling genius of Vidal Sassoon and his contemporaries, put a whole new

slant on the meaning of glamour - carefree, easy-to-wear and liberating. The same applies to KAM Hair and Body

Spa Creative Team’s beautiful image (above). For the Cheynes Artistic Team (left) glmaour is all about standing

out from the crowd. Depth, dimension, direction and texture are all taken to the extremes of perfection, with strong

black silhouette images with beautiful geometric and precision haircuts complemented with bold and vivid colours.

We

all

bob

a

And it’s come a long way since the 1960s... from its origins signed Vidal Sassoon until

today. The “average” length par excellence more than a hairstyle is a contemporary

status. Lending itself to myriad interpretations. From the Lob (long+bob) with shoulderlength

locks, to the Wob (wavy+bob), dedicated to those who love texture. For the

genetically elegant there is the Pob (posh+bob), but for everyone the bob represents

just one absolute: freedom. To interpret, play with an image. The bob is independence.

Dal Lob (long+bob),

Mil posibles matices. Dal Lob (long

+ bob), con largos a los hombros, al Wob (wavy + bob) movido. Para las genéticamente

elegantes llega el Pob (posh + bob) pero para todas, el carré representa una idea: ser

libres. Para interpretar, jugar con la imagen. Bob es independencia.

Hair-loss. A beauty nightmare. Sometimes, but not

always, avoidable, it’s a subject that’s better got out into

the open, so it can be confronted and discussed. Gary Kelly

Many of us become aware of increased hair-loss during certain periods of our lives. For men,

it's invariably down to inherited male-pattern hair-loss and there's little or nothing that can be

done to prevent it. For men and women alike, it can be seasonal, hormonal, or related to physical

or psychological changes that occur throughout our lives. In extreme cases, where individuals

experience medical hair loss, including those undergoing chemotherapy or suffering from

alopecia, a solution rests in the hands of pioneering charites such as mynewhair, which was

founded by professional stylist and hair hero, Trevor Sorbie MBE, in 2006 to provide advice and

support to anyone falling into this category. The pioneering charity’s nurse-led programme offers

specialist expertise in areas including advice, wig customisation and aftercare. Julie McDonald

(below right) from Penshaw, Sunderland, was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, but now in

remission, Julie's chemotherapy treatment caused her to lose all her hair, a big blow to her selfesteem.

“I felt really anxious about the treatment and I really wanted to choose a wig before the

chemotherapy started,” she explains. “My nurse told me about mynewhair salons who work with

the NHS to provide high quality wigs and I got in touch with Darren Stuart from Tribeca Hair

Julie found that having

her wig ready in advance

of her treatments was a

lifesaver, as it gave her

the confidence to carry

on with life as normal.

Salon in East Boldon. The fact that Darren was willing to see me before my treatment started was

a huge help. By my third bout of chemotherapy I had lost all my hair - it was very distressing but

having my wig ready was a lifesaver, as it gave me the confidence to carry on with life as normal.”

On the more general subject of day-to-day health, hair is a good visual marker of overall wellbeing.

Co-Directors at Northern Hair Loss Clinic, Jessica Patrick and Hayley Jennings, are huge

advocates of a healthy diet that contains the right mix of protein, vitamins, minerals and other

nutrients, which really help to improve scalp and hair health, while accentuating the look, feel

and growth-rate of your clients’ locks. For example, vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron

from food, so this is another vital vitamin for promoting healthy hair growth at the follicular

level. Furthermore, research has shown that vitamin A promotes the production of sebum,

which helps to keep hair healthy, while it is also thought to speed up the rate of hair growth and

encourage the growth of thicker hair. To encourage natural hair growth, a healthy functioning

scalp and to discourage hair loss or thinning, a balanced diet full of nutritionally dense fresh

produce should always be adopted. Jessica, Hayley and the team at the Northern Hair Loss Clinic

always advise clients suffering from any type of improper hair growth to consult a qualified

trichologist to discuss the potential reasons for their issue.

For men and women

alike, hair loss can be

seasonal, hormonal, or

related to physical or

psychological changes

that occur throughout

our lives.

Leading experts in scalp and hair science, Nioxin, recognises that thinning hair and hair loss is

a very broad issue. The brand has found inspiration in premium skincare to supply advanced

care for thinning hair. As an extension of facial skin, the scalp requires the same attention and

treatment as the actual hair shaft. While there are many solutions on the market that serve to

camouflage thinning hair and balding, Nioxin's range of products is designed to strengthen,

nourish and repair hair from its foundation at scalp level, by identifying the 3 signs of hair

thinning: Derma - the scalp environment is one of the main reasons of thinning hair and a

healthy scalp environment supports healthy hair growth. Healthy, deeply rooted hair comes

from a scalp that is clean and free from debris; Density - the scalp needs to be kept clean and

hair needs to be protected from damage and breakage, one of the most common causes of thinlooking

hair; Diameter - finer hair strands is one of the first signs of thinning hair. This means

less keratin is present, which results in weaker hair structure unable to control its own weight.

NL takes

the top 3

For the first time in the history of Color Zoom - Goldwell’s

international hair competition - all three top prizes were

scooped by the same country AND the same salon! Gary kelly

The Goldwell 2018 Global Zoom event held in Toronto this Autumn is sure to have become a much talked-about

occasion in the small Dutch town of Apeldoorn - it takes the credit for a creative achievement unlikely to ever be

equalled; never say never, but for Color Zoom participants from the same salon to win all three categories: Creative

(Roos Topley), New Talent (Nushka Barbosa) and Partner (Lieke Nijenkamp) is an incredible result by anyone's

reckoning! The announcement of the Global Zoom competition winners was just one of the highlights over two days of

extraordinary shows, artist sessions and celebrations of creative excellence on the part of all participants at this year's

event. Also included was the world premiere of Goldwell’s 2019 Color Zoom Collection - REMIX, with the Color Zoom

Creative Team, which included the '17 Global winners, giving an insight into the inspiration behind the trend collection.

The Color Zoom Hall of Fame award is dedicated to recognising former Color Zoom winners who have used the competition

as a platform for advancing their career. This year's two winners were: Neil Barton from the UK (above left) and Rodica Hristu

from Canada - both for their dedication and mentorship of Color Zoom teams throughout the last decade. The Gala Show and

Awards ended with the announcement that Global Zoom 2019 will take place in the beautiful Austrian capital city of VIENNA.

A new era of ultra-personalisation

The evolution of Wella's ITVA also reflects the evolution of the brand, where

ultra-personalisation plays a major role. "New consumers are personalisation

obsessed – connecting the physical and digital experiences: it's our duty to capture

and build these experiences for them," said Sylvie Moreau, President of Coty

Professional Beauty. "It's all about the boom of the service experience – rather than

being afraid of the change, we need to fully embrace it: first, going back to what

made our industry successful, which is impeccable service where consultation is

the essence; and then beyond that, expressing those skills through digital means."

More than 18

spectacular shows

kept this 2018 edition

as exciting as ever.

MCB by BS

More than 50,000 visitors turned up in Paris, Porte de

Versailles, in mid-September, to discover everything the

2018 edition of MCB by Beauté Sélection had to offer.

280 exhibitors and leading players from the world of coiffure and beauty once again proved the dynamism of this sector.

First of all, when it comes to colouring, with unprecedented growth in the offering of products and services, it is not

possible to meet the needs of a increasing range of clients. Another high-profile trend in this edition was “green”, as many

brands have made ecological products a priority in their colouring, treatment, and styling lines.

And the world of men’s grooming, which continues to thrive with new brands, confirms the positive impact of the success

of men’s salons. Barbering tools, men’s hairstyles, mature hair, beard extensions, etc. were all in great demand by visitors.

Even the artistic and creative aspect was perfectly represented with eighteen extraordinary shows on the main stage.

Contemporaneously, the workshow were just as attractive, with proposals that succeeded in brings a hi-tech vision and

a more wearable approach to trends.

Not to mention the two competitions organised by Estetica France, now a tradition at this fair, with “The Mentor,

Best Emerging Talent”, which awarded the young French hairdresser Laurent Micas and, of course, “What's up in Paris”

dedicated to the universe of hair salon design. In this category the German salon Scissorys Friseure nabbed the award.

Hair teams from across the globe once more committed their own time and resources to creating a show which was an

amazing celebration of the artistry, creativity and passion. Without their generosity and commitment, this incredible

event would quite simply not exist. Importantly Alternative Hair is, of course, also about raising much-needed funds for

Fighting Leukaemia. During the evening head trustees of Fighting Leukaemia, Douglas Osborne, Professor Tariq Enver

and Dr Jason De Boeur thanked the audience for their support and told them of the some of the great research being

carried out with positive results. A film of this year’s Children’s Party, opened the charity appeal which was made by

Alternative Hair Host, Linda Evans and 9 year old Blue Tobin (centre left) who is celebrating 6 years free of blood cancer.

3,500 excited and enthusiastic guests recently

descended on London’s ExCel Arena for the

much anticipated return of TONI&GUY MainStage.

Tribute to

an icon

MainStage was also a tribute to TONI&GUY's founder and CEO, Toni Mascolo, the first

anniversary of whose passing is being deeply felt. Toni's wife Pauline, daughter Sacha Mascolo-

Tarbuck and two sons Christian and Pierre were on-stage to pay their own moving tributes,

while also presenting a tribute video with touching messages from friends, colleagues and family.

The memories and comments demonstrated just how well loved and respected he was by all.

102 events

Following on from Toni's tribute, the brand celebrated individual achievements, including Salon of the Year,

Hairdresser of the Year, Global Retail Salon of the Year, Distributor of the Year and a special “Lifetime Achievement,”

award, which was presented to Jackie Lark, someone who was there from the beginning of the TONI&GUY journey.

At the close of MainStage, all 50 models from

the collections showcased at the event walked the

runway to “We Are Family,” embodying the core

ethos of a true family-run brand. Nevertheless,

the enduring memory of this year's MainStage

is that of the man himself: Toni Mascolo M.B.E.
