ALONG THE DANUBE CYCLE PATH

OF THE ROMANS
The Romans left various marks on our
country. Let yourself be taken along the
Danube on a journey through the former
Roman Empire.
// PASSAU – SCHLÖGEN (42 km)
The route begins at the former customs border Batavis
and leads along the right bank of the Danube
across former trails of the Roman Limes-border and
past two small castles to the natural wonder, the
Danube-bend Schlögen. The RömerBurgus – the
best preserved Roman building in Upper Austria –
awaits in Oberranna.

// SCHLÖGEN – LINZ (56 km)
Follow the Danube along either bank and continue
with a ferry from Ottensheim to Linz. At the end of
the Eferding basin you will find the natural »Linzer
Pforte-Gate«, after which, cyclists will have reached
Linz, the Roman trading hub Lentia.

// LINZ – STRUDENGAU (62 km)
In Linz, cycle along the left bank towards Mauthausen.
At the power plant Abwinden/Asten, the
Danube is crossed and the route continued on to
Enns. Tip: A worthwhile detour is the Abbey St.
Florian! The Museum Lauriacum in Enns holds one
of Austria’s most important cultural & historical collections
of Roman times. In Enns, cross the Danube
with a bike ferry to Mauthausen. Mitterkirchen offers
an insight into the pre-Roman Hallstatt culture. The
stage ends in Grein.
