FAMILY EXPERIENCES<br />

IN LOWER AUSTRIA<br />

Biking for Kids – Spitz (22 km)<br />

Start at the roll ferry pier in Spitz and cycle comfortably<br />

along the <strong>Danube</strong> cycle <strong>Path</strong>, on the left<br />

bank towards Weißenkirchen. In Weißenkirchen,<br />

visitors can swim in the outdoor swimming-area<br />

next to the boat station. Continue to Dürnstein,<br />

where cyclists cross the <strong>Danube</strong> via the motor<br />

ferry. The ferry will dock right next to a fine sandy<br />

beach in Rossatz. On the <strong>Danube</strong> <strong>Cycle</strong> <strong>Path</strong>,<br />

head upstream to Mitterarnsdorf, where one can<br />

take a taxi to the other bank of the <strong>Danube</strong>.<br />

Tip: Outdoor bathing places in Weißenkirchen and<br />

Rossatz<br />

Biking for Kids – Emmersdorf (8 km)<br />

The tour starts at the tourist information point at<br />

the roundabout in Emmersdorf. <strong>Cycle</strong> upstream<br />

along the <strong>Danube</strong> and enjoy beautiful views of the<br />

Melk Abbey as well, as the large white <strong>Danube</strong><br />

ships. Along the way, pass Luberegg, the longest<br />

natural sandy beach along the <strong>Danube</strong>. Ideal<br />

for children as there is almost no current. A little<br />

further along the path is the leisure center Weiten-<br />

egg, with a family-friendly beach offering pedal<br />

boats, surfing opportunities and much more.<br />

Along the same way, the route returns to the<br />

starting point of the tour.<br />

Adventure tour through the Garden-city<br />

Tulln (15 km)<br />

All in all, 6 exciting and child-friendly stations lead<br />

through Tulln. Just follow the signs »Radeln für<br />

Kids«, entry is possible at all stations of the route.<br />

In the GARTEN TULLN (Garden Tulln), children<br />

can let off steam at the largest natural playground<br />

in Lower Austria and climb the treetop trails. The<br />

Aubad-bath and the recreation park are a paradise<br />

for those keen for water slides, a floating octopus,<br />

a sandy beach and adventure streams.<br />

Children cycle route – Bike experience »Au« –<br />

With Betty Bernstein through the Au-region<br />

from Stockerau & Wördern (19 km)<br />

From the Stockerau station, cycle on three different<br />

routes through the <strong>Danube</strong> floodplains in the direction<br />

of Altenberg and the Greifenstein power station,<br />

where one learns interesting facts about the <strong>Danube</strong><br />

ALONG THE DANUBE CYCLE PATH<br />

and the Au-flood plains. Entry points are possible at<br />

the stations Stockerau and Greifenstein; the routes<br />

are signposted.<br />

Petronell – Bratislava (26 km)<br />

Start the tour in Petronell with the inviting Roman<br />

city of Carnuntum. At its original location, the<br />

essential architectural types of a Roman quarter<br />

were reconstructed including its historical context:<br />

a town house, a splendid city villa and a public spa<br />

complex. Back along the bike path, follow the main<br />

road in an easterly direction until you arrive in Bad<br />

Deutsch-Altenburg. Continue then towards Hainburg<br />

and Bratislava. In the Slovak capital, visitors<br />

can, for example, explore the Devin Castle or stroll<br />

through the old town.<br />

Roman city of Carnuntum<br />
