Chemical Composition of cupro-<strong>nickel</strong> <strong>pipe</strong> is such as amount of Iron (Fe) 1.0-1.8, Lead (Pb)<br />

0.05, Manganese (Mn) 1.0,<br />

Nickel (Ni) 9.0-11.0, Zink (Zn) 1.0 and Remaining <strong>Copper</strong>(Cu).<br />

It’s a fact that, Nickel is soluble in copper and this is why the copper-<strong>nickel</strong> alloys belong to<br />

single phase alpha structures. The cast structures have alpha dendrites that contain huge<br />

quantities of <strong>nickel</strong>. The mechanical treatments will cause dendrite structure to get broken. The<br />

alloying element does not become homogenized by repeated thermal or mechanical<br />

treatments.<br />

70% copper, 30% <strong>nickel</strong> alloy with additions of iron and manganese results in improved<br />

strength. These elemental modifications improve its resistance to corrosion and erosion. It has<br />

slightly more strength level than 90/10, making it suitable for more demanding<br />

applications. Corrosion resistance of this alloy is remarkably improved in high-velocity water i.e.<br />

up to 4.5m/s and even polluted seawater.


This type of metal can be readily cold-worked, fabricated and welded without any special<br />

material considerations. The most popular specifications covering this alloy are the CN107 and<br />

C71500 designations, though the Defense Standard DEF STAN 02-879 Annex B offers tighter<br />

controls on impurities and mechanical properties together with a mandatory impact value.
