Monthly update from PPI
Executive Director Jason Page
The year is just a couple of weeks from
being over and 2019 is coming whether
we are all ready for it or not. After taking this first two
months to acclimate to the new role, I?ve been working
hard to absorb all that I can from Jules Van Sant, get as
much face to face time with you as possible, and begin to
implement some new cornerstones that will help PPI
grow and increase its relevance to you and your
businesses.
We?ve relocated our office to downtown Portland,
Oregon to be more central and create an opportunity to
foster better and newer relationships this next year. We
have also hired two new people to join our team that are
passionate, capable, and committed to strengthening the
influence and visibility of our industry. Tammy Weatherly,
our new Administrative Assistant will help with
organizational leadership, making sure we dot our ?I?s
and cross our ?T?s. Benjamin Mertz our new Education &
Events Coordinator is going to provide a new sense of
excitement in the things we do together and help us
become more relevant to a newer generation.
We are currently at the tail
end of crafting a new strategy
for this next year and are eager
to share it with you! Hope you
all have great holiday and
looking forward to connecting
with you soon.
Enthusiastically,
2019 Trends: What To Expect In The Year Ahead
2019 is quickly approaching and
with it comes the predictions of
what organizations can expect
for the following year. So, what
will 2019 have in store?
There will be a shift in the
economy, a number of
generational changes, an
overwhelming increase in HR
tech vendors to compete
against, and additional work
with artificial intelligence (AI).
Here, we'll cover our top three
predictions for the 2019
workforce.
1) Rise of HR
The long-anticipated rise of HR
is coming, and we think we
know why. After decades of
employers' being the primary
determinant of who receives a
position and who doesn't,
companies are faced with a
talent shortage and increasingly
frustrating retention issues.
Rather than being a cost
center, HR is now a driver of
people strategy. HR will finally
have a strategic seat at the
executive table and will be able
to provide a better view on how
to increase the performance of
the workforce.
2) From Discovery t o Audit in
AI
While AI has been on
everyone's lips in 2018, in 2019,
we predict we'll move past just
conversations and chatbots and
into true AI and machine
learning (ML). Implementation
and the audit of the tools
already in use at many
companies will be the main
drivers for this shift (as well as
the natural increasing
sophistication of technology in
its second, third, and fourth
iterations, which is where AI and
ML are currently in the HR tech
landscape).
Before 2018, the industry
experienced application
development and
implementation of ML and AI. In
2019, we will see additional
work within auditing, regulation,
and general use case guidance.
The next era will be focused on
questions about how to best
implement, monitor/audit, and
regulate the use of AI/ML.
3) Gender Shift in Sales and
Leadership
Only 39% of sales
professionals are women. Talent
shortages will require a shift to
include more women in sales
roles.
Organizations will target
recruitment to include a diverse
population of candidates who
are hired based on potential
rather than experience. This will
require a focus on quickly
onboarding sales professionals,
providing targeted sales training
and inclusive training programs
that appeal to men and women.
Portland, OR
Leamy Printing and Design is a new
addition to PPI Association. The company is run
by brothers Matt and John.
Matt began his graphic design education
under Chuck Taylor while at Reynolds High
School. He then earned his B.F.A. while attending
the Savannah College of Art and Design. Matt has
experience in a wide range of areas outside of
graphic design; from running presses to product
design and R&D.
John has worn a number of hats over the
years from sales to the head of OHSU's food
service. Currently he is the business mind at LP&D
so Matt can focus on the art. He also lends his
fundraising expertise to local non-profits.
Founded in the Spring of 2002, LP&D has
grown from a small operation in Matt's living
room to a slightly larger operation with a few
more toys. Located in the Columbia River Gorge,
we are fortunate to be surrounded by its beauty,
just as we've been lucky to have the assistance of
talented employees, interns, freelancers and
partners in building a solid reputation over the
last decade. http://www.leamydesign.com/
