Time to Relate
A change in law in
2014 requires parents
to try mediation to
resolve their issues
before applying to the
courts. To help couples
and families who are separating, Relate Milton
Keynes launched a new Family Mediation Service.
Family Mediators can assist with agreeing child
care arrangements, financial concerns and the
separating of assets. This is a more cost-effective
way of resolving disputes, less emotionally
traumatic and takes less time than long, drawnout
and potentially expensive legal battles. Aviva
reported last January that even without major
dispute, the average cost of divorce is now about
£14,561.
Lesa Clarke, Family Mediator at Relate, hopes that
whether you are separating or trying to resolve a
long-term dispute, their service will become your
first call for finding an effective resolution.
Harry’s Rainbow
Harry’s Rainbow supports children and young people in
the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas who have been
bereaved of a parent or sibling. They provide information,
guidance and various bereavement services - support
groups, individually tailored support, activities and trips.
Their aim is to predominantly
support bereaved children but they
also consider the extended family
- parents, step siblings and carers.
Using books, other resources and
individually tailored memory boxes
they support the bereaved children
through the grieving process. They
organise activities that promote wellbeing, confidence
building and self-esteem as well as facilitating contact with
others who have also suffered a bereavement. This can
help to reduce the feeling of isolation and loneliness.
Individuals and businesses can support Harry’s Rainbow
with sponsorship, fundraising and by becoming a Harry’s
Hero. The most important part of this is that if you have a
child who has suffered a bereavement get in touch.

Stony Stratford Memory Club
A new memory club for people living with dementia
or symptoms of cognitive impairment has been
launched in Stony Stratford.
Hazel Roberts helped to launch the club, drawing on
her experience as a carer and champion of those with
this difficult condition. She was a campaigner and
media volunteer for Alzheimer’s Society, was one of
the first Dementia Friends Champions and now sits on
the Dementia Partnership Board. Four years ago she
helped to launch the Newport Pagnell memory club.
The new Stony Stratford club hopes to attract those
experiencing memory or related problems, people
still living independently and managing with only
intermittent assistance from others. The main
objective is for members to enjoy an occasion of
relaxed social interaction. In addition, they will offer

stimulating group activities to build confidence and
help each member to continue to live as well and as
positively as possible. Refreshments will also be on
offer.
The club will meet between 2.30-4.00pm on alternate
Monday afternoons
at Stony Stratford
Community Church. A
donation of £1.50 per

of refreshments.
