About The Editor
Min Grob started Conference
on Coercive Control in June
2015, following the end of a
relationship that was both
coercive and controlling.
Since then, there have been 5
national conferences with 2
more to be held in 2019 with
Liverpool in March and Bury St
Edmunds in July.
Min’s interest lies in
recognising coercive control in
its initial stages, identifying
the ‘red flags’ of abusive
behaviour before someone
becomes more invested in the
relationship, as that is when it
will be much more difficult to
leave.
Min has talked on identifying
covert abuse and, with the use
of examples from social media,
she identifies a number of
covert tactics that are
commonly used to manipulate.
These tactics are invisible in
plain sight as the abuser will
deliberately keep their abuse
below the radar so as
to remain undetected.
Min is also a public speaker
and speaks on both her
personal experience of
coercive control as well as
more generally of abuse that is
hidden in plain sight.
In September 2018, Min
launched Empower - a hub for
supporting and education on
and around coercive control.
Let's Grow The
Conversation!
New year, new resolve
Hello and a Happy New Year to all readers of CCChat Magazine.
This issue is going to be a short one as it announces some exciting changes.
I have been in the midst of launching a sister magazine to CCChat. Empower
magazine will have a focus on supporting survivors who have been or who are in
a coercive and controlling relationship. The articles will be a mix of information,
wellbeing and coping strategies and will be available to read, for free, on the
Empower website.
The reason for this is so that survivors still in the relationship who may be being
monitored, can visit their local library and access the public computers
CCChat will continue but will now be aimed at professionals, as a way of sharing
information and research and will go out six times a year. At the moment, I’m not
sure about how often Empower Magazine will go out but all issues will be
available to view on www.empowersuffolk.co.uk when it’s ready.
2019 will also see 2 conferences. The much awaited Liverpool conference on
March 4th and a conference for professionals living or working in Suffolk on July
2nd. Read more about them in the magazine.
I hope that these two resources will become a useful source of information on all
matters on and around coercive control as the more the public are educated, the
fewer places abusers have to hide.
All that remains is to wish you all a productive and fruitful New Year and for those
of you who are trapped in a monitored and micro managed place, I hope you get
the information and support to get out safely.
