ECA Review/Submitted Semi-trailer blocks highway Terri Huxley ECA Review In the early hours of Tues. Jan. 14, Morrin Fire Department received a call regarding a single-vehicle collision on Highway 27, west of the Morrin Corner. Traffic was rerouted as the highway was shut down from Range Road 20-2 to 20-3. Drumheller RCMP, Fire and EMS as well as the Morrin Fire Department and Department of Highways attended the scene. Snow removal placement Council considered additions to the Community Standards Bylaw that included the issue of snow and ice removal from sidewalks and driveways being deposited on public property including roads, alleys, pathways or sidewalks. One exception of public sidewalks in the downtown commercial area is that snow may be deposited onto the adjacent street if the front of the building abuts the sidewalk and if there is no other alternate privately-owned area adjacent to the building. Junior Achievment is a world-wide program designed to help students from Grades 5 to 12 find their passion and hone in on necessary skills with a hands on approach to learning, at the Jan. 9 regular Stettler County meeting. Topics like financial literacy, business and economics, and even investments as part of an online stock simulation can be taught. All of this is driven by local volunteer involvement which often comes ‘out of the woodwork’ to help make this program a reality in schools as they dedicate time to teach. So far, Big Valley School has embraced the program wholeheartedly while the schools in Stettler remain apprehensive as timing takes priority to implement the programming. Council asked whether taking the program to a public setting like the library would be beneficial. Vollman explained that the best way with the fines to include second offence at $500 and third offence a $1,000 fine. Bylaw officer enforcement activities included 29 sidewalks, four snow complaints, one call over a cat issue and two dog calls that ate up 21.5 hours of the bylaw officer’s time and 82 km.
