Like so many hospitals of earlier days,
Huntsville Memorial Hospital chose its name to
honor the men and women—the heroes of
World War I—who served the country during
that time. Although the name has remained the
same, inside its doors, much has been changed.
Huntsville Memorial Hospital is a 123 bed,
Joint Commission-accredited, not-for-profit
acute care community hospital with a
twenty-four hour, level-four emergency center.
Since 1927 it has provided charitable
healthcare services, delivering quality healthcare
to the residents of Walker County and the
surrounding communities.
In keeping with the original charter of
April 4, 1927, when it opened its doors, the
purpose was to provide “benevolent and
charitable” services for the sick, infirm, and
afflicted residents of Walker County through
the establishment, maintenance, support and
operation of a hospital. Today, it continues that
mission by delivering outstanding healthcare
in a professional state-of-the-art facility for all.
The entire staff is truly dedicated to caring for
people. Physicians, nurses and ancillary staff members
believe that caring for people is the foundation
of everything Huntsville Memorial does.
Management and staff say it is vital that every
patient, their family members, and visitors be
treated with integrity and honesty. They anticipate
and accommodate customers’ needs; and, believe
in promoting a culture of safety throughout the
institution. Huntsville Memorial Hospital’s vision
says it best: Huntsville Memorial will be the institution
of choice by residents of Walker County and
the surrounding area for their healthcare needs.
The hospital will be a leader in efficiently and continually
improving the economics, accessibility,
and quality of healthcare in Walker County.
With that purpose in mind, the hospital in
2009 implemented a unique win-win opportunity
for patients and providers through a hospital
co-management effort. “The model unites
everyone’s goals. The unique aspect of the
model is that primary care physicians and
specialists are part of the co-management team,”
