Casting call for medical TV show
A Birmingham-based TV production company
is looking for candidates to take part in a new
show aimed at treating people with extreme skin
conditions, which starts filming this month.
Full Fat TV, the company behind Channel 4’s
Body Coach with Joe Wicks, are making the series
for Quest Red, which is part of the global TV
broadcaster Discovery Network.
The programme is inspired by the massive popularity
of Dr Pimple Popper, an American dermatologist
from California who has her own series on TLC.
The show will feature a world class, award-winning
dermatologist who works mostly for the NHS but
also has a private clinic in Harley Street. She will
be treating people with all types of extreme skin
conditions.
In the age of social media, there’s never been a
worse time to have an uncontrollable, unsightly skin
condition but there’s a whole host of people living
with angry rashes or eruptions, debilitating acne,
large lipomas, growths, cysts, crusty, flaky, scarred
skin or other extreme undiagnosed conditions on
the face or body. In many cases their confidence is
shattered, their personal or professional lives are on
hold and some have even been forced into isolation.
Series producer Donna McLaughlin said: “Despite
this, the NHS doesn’t offer treatment for skin
conditions considered to be cosmetic and those they
do treat often have long waiting lists. For example,
current waiting lists for the Midlands area are up
to 24 weeks so this is a brilliant opportunity for
someone who might otherwise not be treated, can’t
afford to go private or doesn’t want to wait that
long to get the help they need pretty quickly and if
selected, their consultation, procedure and travel cost
would be covered.
“Filming is scheduled to start in early March and
although it’s a serious medical programme, there will
be a transformational element as we will be helping
people not just with the way they look but also giving
them back the confidence they may have lost due to
their condition and with it, a new lease of life.
“Our expert treats many skin conditions but are
we particularly keen to hear from people with
large lumps that need surgically removing - big
cysts, lipomas and growths. We also want to feature
more unusual or rare conditions that are visually
shocking to look at and are targeting specific
diseases like folliculitis, hirsutism, hyperhydrosis,
neurofibromatosis, rhinophyma, hidradenitis
suppurativa, erythromelagia, hyper keratotsis,
seborreic keratosis and intertriginous dermatitis.”
