Assistant Professor,
Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering
St Joseph Engineering College
Mr Keith Fernandes received his bachelor' degree in Electronics
and Communication Engineering in 2009 from SJEC and Master
of Engineering in Microelectronics from University of Western
Australia, in the year 2011. His area of specialization includes
Analog VLSI Design, Mixed Mode Design, ASIC Design and
Verification, Engineering Education Research. He is presently
pursuing IIEECP a certification course on Engineering Education
offered by IUCEE
Question Paper Review Using Bloom’s
Taxonomy
The audience was asked to group themselves according to their
departments at the start of the session. Mr. Keith then asked the
each group to list their views on the following questions: 1.
Objectives of a good question paper, 2. Time to be allotted when
setting an internal question paper and 3. Do internal question
papers satisfy OBE criterion. Responses from each of the groups
were discussed and it was found that although OBE based teaching
is imparted in the classroom, there is a lack of OBE based
evaluation in the class internals.
Mr Keith stressed on the importance of student centric learning
cycles. Utilizing OBE based techniques in question paper setting
will automatically shift focus on student centric design thinking
and lead to achieving a higher level in Bloom’s taxonomy.
Each level in Bloom’s taxonomy was discussed and the
participants were asked to review the question papers they had set
in the previous semester. It was identified that although mapping
to lower levels of Bloom’s taxonomy was easier it does not
evaluate the students intelligence effectively hence the participants
were requested to think beyond level 2 in the taxonomy.
“The session shed light
on preparing an
effective question paper
which includes OBE”
