COMMUNITY VALUES
As a community, we pride ourselves on living our values – the
values of our organizations and our community as a whole.
We have established four common values by which all of our chapters
operate: accountability, community and civic engagement,
inclusion and social justice, and personal growth. Throughout
the year, fraternity and sorority members engage in programs which
support these values in order to develop well-rounded individuals who
make values-based decisions and engage positively in their community.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
The Department of Greek Student Engagement
& Development sponsors an annual leadership
conference each year for the fraternity
and sorority community. There are many
leadership programs offered each semester
within the community, including
officer retreats and support for
attendance to national leadership
conferences that enhance
leadership development for
members.
CHAPTER LEADERSHIP
Members have the
opportunity to serve on their
chapter’s executive board,
on committees, and other
positions to support chapter
programs and initiatives.
“I hope to leave the
Greek community
in a better place
than it already was
even if they are
small strides.”
Senior Sorority Member
INTERNSHIPS
The Greek Student Engagement &
Development department offers an
undergraduate internship opportunity each
year for a fraternity or sorority member to
work with the departmental staff to support
programs, initiatives, and the daily functions
of the department.
NATIONAL & REGIONAL
CONFERENCES
Most fraternity and sorority
members will be afforded the
opportunity to attend local,
regional, or national trainings
and conferences through their
organization or the department.
Greek Engagement also offers
positional leaders and emerging
leaders opportunities to attend conferences.
COUNCIL ENGAGEMENT
Each chapter is overseen by one of our three
councils. Each council provides varying
levels of oversight and collective initiatives
to its member chapters. There are many
opportunities to serve on the respective
council as a delegate, committee member, or
executive officer.
ORDER OF OMEGA
The Theta Pi Chapter of the National Order
of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society
is a selective society and intended for
fraternity and sorority members who have
demonstrated high academic achievement
and leadership within the fraternal and
campus community. Students may apply and
are initiated each semester.
JOINING
If you are interested in making a positive impact on your campus and
community, being connected by common ideals and values to men and
women across the world, you are encouraged to explore your options within
the fraternity and sorority community. Here are the requirements for joining:
1. 2.5 cumulative GPA; some chapters have a GPA requirement which is
higher than the University requirement.
2. 12 WCU credit hours completed or 24 transfer credit hours
completed; some chapters have a credit hour requirement which is
higher than the University requirement.
3. Attendance at a Greek 101 Program in order to gain a broader perspective
of the expectations and requirements of fraternities and sororities, and
attendance at the New Member Education Day program held each
semester of the academic year on topics relevant to membership in a
national Fraternity or Sorority.
4. A desire to make a positive impact on your chapter, organization,
and campus community and immerse yourself in a meaningful
learning experience!
WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING NOW?
• Keep reading! There is general information here about each
of our chapters. Visit their websites, and explore where your
interests lie.
• Attend programs for more information! Attend departmental
events (Fraternity/Sorority 101), council programs such as CPC
Days, IFC 101, NPHC’s Meet the Greeks, and other individual
chapter programs to learn more about the chapters and
community as a whole.
• Follow us and the various councils and chapters on social media
to stay up-to-date on what’s going on in the community!
• Contact our office at greeks@wcu.edu or 828-227-3635 to
discuss your interests. We are happy to help!
There are three distinct joining processes based on the council in which a
chapter holds membership:
For our College Panhellenic sororities, primary recruitment takes place
during the spring semester and consists of a mutual selection process in
which potential new members visit each of the five CPC organizations
to get to know members and learn about the organizations. Registration
opens during the fall semester.
For our Interfraternity Council organizations, recruitment takes
place during the fall and spring semesters. During the designated week of
recruitment, all nine of the IFC fraternities plan events intended to get to
know potential new members in various settings. Potential new members
are encouraged to visit as many recruitment events as possible to get to
know active members and learn information about their organizations.
The organizations extend bids at the end of the week.
For our National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations,
membership intake occurs at the individual chapter’s
discretion. Some may not conduct intake every semester.
Students interested in NPHC organizations will typically attend
an interest, or informational meeting in which the organization
will discuss plans for intake and general information about the
organization. There is an application process to be selected as a
candidate for membership intake.
“Immediately
after joining my
organization,
I felt more
inspired and
encouraged
to take part in
the community
around me.”
