DREAM WITH US
HONDURAS TRANSFORMATION PROJECT
As I write this article, I am with a
missions team leaving Honduras. Of
course, Hondurans have been much
in the news as of late. Caravans are making
the long trek through Central America,
Mexico and ultimately to the border of the
United States. Many conversations are
being articulated about borders, immigration
and security. The Hondurans in convoys are
part of that conversation. There is debate
and, unfortunately, the issues are not fully
processed. What we often hear via the
news media are animated sound bites. The
news media depends on controversy to
keep the listener’s attention, so it seems
that it is undesirable to present a fair,
balanced dialogue. As a result, that which is
presented is highly prejudicial – some outlets
catering to a liberal point of view (POV),
others catering to a conservative audience.
Regardless of the POV, the Hondurans are
marginalized, serving as pawns on someone
else’s agenda. This is despicable. May
God’s people be faithful to the scriptures in
avoiding the hate-filled spirit of the day. “Do
not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the
alien or the poor…” (Zechariah 7:10)
As we visited missionaries Mike & Jessica
Brown, we were introduced to Hondurans.
Our trip took us to very remote jungle
communities where the population seemed
to be less then forty people per square
mile. It took us twelve hours; by car (seven
hours); canoe (three hours); horseback and
hiking (two hours) to reach them (a whole
new view of “rural”!) What we experienced
was amazing! We met a generous, grateful,
hospitable and kind culture group. Believers
– filled with a love for Jesus and passion for
the Spirit – gathered in homes to worship
with us. On one pastor’s farm, about eighty
believers came for a Wednesday afternoon
service. It was the relative equivalent of a
megachurch! Some walked for two-hours
across the steep mountainous terrain,
worshiped for two hours, then made the
two-hour trip home with children in tow.
They, too, have a passion to see their
neighbors come to faith in Christ and be
introduced to the joy of salvation.
Although the larger cities in Honduras have
their challenges (gangs), and rural areas face
both drug and human trafficking, it would be
a tragic mistake to allow these impressions
to stigmatize the whole population.
In this issue you will see a dream unfold for
partnering with the church in Honduras,
training pastoral students who sacrifice
greatly to attend the bible institute in order
to serve their people. A wonderful vision is
emerging that may very well provide a hope
that will result in people coming to Christ,
being filled with the Holy Spirit and being
given hope that would redeem not only the
spirit, but also the souls of these wonderful
people. Redeem not only the inner man, but
also his outward existence. Perhaps…just
perhaps…this redemption would give birth
to a hope that would result in a Honduras
that Hondurans would want to flee to
instead of flee from. It’s an ambitious dream.
But we serve a God who demonstrates an
amazing capacity to transform individuals,
groups, peoples and even nations. It
could happen through your ministry in
your community. It can happen through a
missions effort in Honduras.
Dream with us, and read on…
Walk with me. I would like us to
take a journey together. It will
be one that is challenging and
at times will even seem impossible. We are
headed straight into the murder capital of the
world: Honduras, Central America. A country
that places no value on human life – where
spiritual darkness ensues. Now, I want to
introduce you to those not of the gangs, but
bible school students who will be a light in
Mike Brown
the darkness. These students will be the future pastors and missionaries
of the Asambleas de Dios.
Imagine you are a student of a bible institute located far from your home
in Olancho, Honduras. You have heard that your area has minimal
evangelical presence which motivates you to begin your six-hour trek to
the bible institute. The journey is too long and arduous to make every day
or even weekly. The majority of students have families with children, so
you kiss your wife and kids goodbye with the realization that you will not
be seeing them for one to two weeks. You embark without food or money;
you only carry with you faith, hope and love.
After three hours of walking you hitch a ride down river in a canoe. You
pause and realize you will be making this journey for the next three
years – but love compels you. After a half-day of traveling, you arrive at
the bible institute tired and sore, but your passion is strong. You have
received word that classes for today will be held in a 6x12 foot backyard.
Last week it was in a hallway of a building and the week before the front
porch of the local pastor’s house. Classes have ended so you pray and
study before going to sleep. Unfortunately, you will have to sleep on the
floor of a friend’s house. Last week you had to sleep in the backyard
where scorpions and snakes were your bunkmates – doesn’t seem too
appealing. Morning comes, you wash in the stream and prepare to look
your best for today’s classes.
This is the reality for all students attending the current bible institute.
There is no building, no classrooms or sleeping quarters. They are
not guaranteed food, a bed or hot shower. What compels them is the
opportunity to serve in the Kingdom of God.
God has given us a vision to see a bible institute building become a
reality for these students. They will then have a safe place to study, learn
and train for the calling that He has placed on their lives. What we, as
missionaries, have seen here are people dedicated to preaching the word
of God to their own. We have seen a people receptive and bearing fruit in
their own communities. Honduras has the potential to touch the nations
and it starts with faith, continues with hope and perseveres with love.
Walk with me. I would like us to take a journey together that will transform
the country of Honduras.
On a sun-filled day we stood at the foot of the mountains of Juticalpa, Honduras facing a
wide-open field that is waiting to reap a harvest. As we stood in this open field, we dreamt
of the day this plot of land would be beaming with new life. This field will be home to more
than a bible institute. It will be a multi-functional building serving four main purposes that will offer
Honduran students better lives. We are excited to develop a partnership between PennDel, our
missionaries Mike and Jess Brown and AG believers in Honduras to see this dream become a reality!
ABOUT
ESS
Phil Baker
GT Church, Reading, PA
WHAT IF we could help provide central access
to the Bible Institute?
WHAT IF we would express the generosity of
God through this opportunity?
WHAT IF God was calling us to help transform
Honduras?
The excitement and comradery we sensed with our
missionaries, Mike and Jess Brown were infectious! These
great missionaries of God are setting something in motion in
collaboration with our Honduran brothers and sisters that will
truly accelerate the transformational work of the gospel for
generations... in Honduras!
Over the next two years, PennDel Ministry Network will be
coming alongside hundreds of young men and women who are
willing to go ALL IN to serve the Lord in reaching Hondurans
and pastoring churches throughout Olancho, the biggest district
in Honduras. Out of this vision trip erupted three solid goals that
we as the PennDel Ministry Network will pursue:
PRAY: That every congregation would intensify with intentional,
informed and focused prayer for Honduras!
GIVE: That together we would raise $500,000 to fund the
Honduras Transformation Project
GO: That teams from individual and collaborating churches
across our Network would respond to the call to GO in
obedience to the great commission and in response to the
visionary leadership of the PennDel Ministry Network.
Partner with us to help make their dreams become a reality!
The Honduras Transformation Project will provide a home to a
church, a facility for ministry training, and a resource to mentor
believers in discipleship and vocational trades. This project
will literally transform the lives and futures of thousands of
Hondurans!
REACH
Connect, Serve, Follow, Lead
GT Church has identified five strategic purposes: Reach, Connect, Serve,
Follow, and Lead. While all five are important, without Reach, the other
four couldn’t happen. We need to reach people outside the church walls in
order for them to be able to connect to the church, serve in the church and
community, follow Jesus and become a leader. So how do we reach people?
There are many different strategies out there, but I’d like to share some
practical ways that GT has worked to fulfill this purpose in our ministry.
52 WEEKEND SERVICES
We, along with every other church, have
52 outreach opportunities every year in our
weekend services. We strive to make our
services engaging, relevant and applicable
to people’s everyday lives so that those
who attend want to invite their friends and
neighbors to join them for church. We
call this an “Invest and Invite” culture. By
expanding our physical location to a second
site and also to an online audience through
GT Live, we have naturally expanded the
number of people who have the opportunity
to attend.
SOCIAL MEDIA
It’s possible for people who have never
attended your church to be reached
through your online presence. Having a
dynamic and engaging plan for social media
is an important component including some
targeted ads that are specifically for those
who live in your area but don’t follow you.
GIVING TO MISSIONS
GT Church supports 100+ missionaries
every year and takes multiple teams on
global trips to provide support to those in
the field. We have prayer walks throughout
our city and county as well. In this way,
we are able to make an impact in reaching
people both across the street and around
the world.
PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL
ORGANIZATIONS
One way to reach out to the community
is to partner with organizations that are
doing good work that the church may not
be equipped to do on our own but that
we can support through financial giving,
prayer and volunteering. We have Local
Go Groups, volunteer groups that go
and serve at places that we also support
financially such as Hope Rescue Mission
and Baseballtown Dream League. We also
have a program called Crossroads XP with
a team that partners with several local
elementary schools on a monthly basis to
present character education assemblies
using curriculum from Core Essential
Values. Some of these opportunities allow
us to present the gospel to people, others
just allow us to be a positive presence in
our local neighborhoods. Either way, we
are able to reach people who may not even
know about our church and may one day
decide to check us out based on how we
present ourselves in the community.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Throughout the year we also hold special
events that target different audiences. In the
spring, we have a First Responders Sunday
where we invite local first responders to
our services, and we honor and appreciate
them that day. In the fall, we celebrate
veterans on Veterans Day and do a churchwide
collection of groceries and other items
for several of our local partners in a Give
Hope project. Every Christmas, we do a
family outreach called Jingle Jam that is
designed for people to invite their neighbors
and friends with kids to an upbeat, fun
Christmas show.
What works for us may not work for you, but hopefully these ideas can spur conversation in your own ministries and
lead to ideas that make sense for your communities. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything that
we do at GT further, please feel free to reach out to me at 610-678-0266.
A note from the Secretary/Treasurer...
I first want to say that it is my joy and privilege to serve you here in the PennDel family
of credential holders. Over the past few months, since my election in May, it has been
a whirlwind, of which I have enjoyed, by the way. I grew up and lived my whole life in
the Pittsburgh area (I think I actually bleed black and gold), but we are adjusting to life
in Central PA. Learning the position of Secretary/Treasurer has been taxing at times
but with my predecessor right down the hall as Superintendent and the assistance of
a wonderful group of support staff, we are moving right along. But one of my greatest
joys is meeting and supporting those who serve this Network. I loved traveling on the
Listening Tour with Pastor Don and Tom Rees; getting to know so many of you was so
awesome! And now it is Sectional Council Tour time, and I get to see you again. I love
my job, and you all are amazing! Please check the dates on this page and set aside
some time to come and join us. See you soon!
CHURCHES REA
SERVING OUR
Many of our churches across PennDel have committed to reaching out to their communities by
connecting with service departments, shelters, and schools. Here are a few testimonies of how several
churches are serving the local schools in their communities.
AT RURAL COMPASSION, we where
inspired to build on the relationships with
stakeholders in our community. While we
already had somewhat of a relationship with our
schools, we wanted to commit to taking it to a
higher level.
Since then, we have continuously taken “gifts”
to different areas of the school, including snacks
to the elementary school, health items to the school nurse, sports drinks to
the athletic directors, cleaning goods to the Life Skills classrooms and more.
We further partner with the Life Skills program by having students come to
the church once a week to clean. This assists them in gaining job skills for
outside work when they are ready to leave school, and it is a blessing to us
as well. We, in turn, provide a Christmas dinner party for them as well as an
Easter egg hunt.
The social worker for the school district reached out to us and asked if we
would be willing to host a summer reading program. We happily agreed and
they provided books to use, including several VeggieTales and Max Lucado
books. What an amazing opportunity!
Bridges are definitely being built in Windsor, PA as a result of saying “we are
going to be the stakeholder in our community that we are meant to be!” To
God be the glory!
Chris & Cheryl Golembiowski
Windsor Assembly of God
LEROY AND I
have been blessed to
serve in God’s beautiful
community of Galeton,
PA for two years. In this
short period of time,
God has expanded our
influence and multiplied
His ministry for His glory.
One area of influence we have had in our community
is within the local school. We continue to build and
add relationships through blessing departmental
staff with gifts of love and other things they need.
We frequently stop by to offer encouragement and
a listening ear. This allows us to get to know their
needs and desires. We can then act and provide for
them. We also intentionally partner with the school
principal by supporting, encouraging and cheering
for him. We don’t come in with our ideas or our
agendas, but rather with the heart of a servant. Our
desire is to be a blessing to the school.
As we continue to love the Lord and the community
He has placed us in, we are excited about the
upcoming opportunities that God has in store.
CHING OUT
SCHOOLS
HOLLENTOWN IS A SMALL, rural village. Becky and have pastored here for over ten years, and it
has been great to reconnect with my home area in many ways.
One of the main ways we connect with the community is the relationship we have made with our school
nurse. We have given supplies (band aids, ointment cream, thermometers, etc.), for which she is very
appreciative. In one conversation, we asked her to let us know of anything else we could help with. From
that meeting, Becky took on, as a personal project, supplying feminine hygiene products and boy’s
deodorant.
We have also been able to develop a relationship with the music department at the school. The products we received through Rural
Compassion allowed us to send boxes of snacks for over a hundred music students on a trip to Florida. The teachers and chaperones
were so appreciative of the contribution.
Another outcome of this relationship was being asked to come as a chaplain to minister to the drama students when a tragedy occurred
among the group. We are blessed to have progressing relationships with many throughout our school district!
XA MINISTRY
CENTER @ EDINBORO
JOEL & NICHOLE
SCHREIBER & FAMILY
XA STUDENTS @ EDINBORO
JOEL AND NICHOLE SCHREIBER started the Edinboro Chi Alpha in the mid-
2000’s after they decided to follow the call to take the impact Chi Alpha had in their
lives from Missouri to students in Erie County. Now the ministry thrives, and they are
blessed to have a groundbreaking (literally) new opportunity ahead! Through God’s
provision and the contribution of several Chi Alpha partners, a plot of land has been
obtained directly across from the Edinboro University campus.
The vision of Chi Alpha is to have a ministry house with living space where students
and staff can live, as well as enough meeting space for Chi Alpha to host events. This
looks specifically like:
• Six 3-bedroom apartments with a full kitchen, full bathroom
and common living area in each (2 with full ADA access)
• Large meeting area
• Kitchen
• Smaller study rooms
• Prayer room
• Bathrooms
These ministry spaces can be used for students to connect through game nights,
worship services and small group bible studies, just to name a few. It will also be a
space that staff can utilize for regular meetings, outreach planning and more. Chi
Alpha is breaking ground for the new ministry house this spring as funds are being
raised and goals are met.
XA MINISTRY HOUSE @ TEMPLE
THE GREATER PHILADELPHIA
AREA is home to 80 colleges
and universities with approximately
500,000 students. The desire of Chi
Alpha Philly is to establish ministries
at four major schools in Center
City Philadelphia. The University
of Pennsylvania, Drexel University,
Temple University and the Community
College of Philadelphia are all
together home to 120,000 students.
For many years, Phil and Val
McLeod have done well in forming a PHIL and VALERIE MCLEOD
foundation for ministry on campuses
around the Philly area. Their vision
now is to expand outward into the
community and to provide more training and growth to a staff full of dynamic leaders.
A Chi Alpha ministry house in the Philly area will help provide living space for these
leaders who can be close to the students and campuses they aim to reach. It will also
provide a great space where ministry and connection can thrive.
ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO
HAS A HEART FOR CHI ALPHA
AND FOR THIS HOUSE IS DJ.
DJ is a senior
at Temple
University
majoring in
Kinesiology.
Through his
leadership,
Chi Alpha was
established as a university recognized
student organization. He is a talented
musician who is deeply committed to
Christ and His church. DJ has expressed
a desire to “give a year” of his life after
graduation to serve as a Missionary
Associate for Chi Alpha in Philadelphia.
The Chi Alpha house will be an important
part of his next chapter in life.
Hope
Now
Every generation of believers faces the same challenge: how do we share the hope of Jesus
in our time, to our friends, in our way? The Gospel is always best received person-to-person,
friend-to-friend. Generation Z is highly connected, socially minded and deeply visual. So how
can we spread the hope of Jesus now? That was a question we began discussing over two
years ago. The answer came in the development of a new method for sharing the Gospel
called We Are Alive in Five. It’s simple, visual, and meaningful.
God is love.
He loves us without limit or condition. God loves every person from every culture and religion.
How have you experienced God’s love? Tell your friends about it.
Our sin divides us from God.
Sin is a problem we all share. It creates division between our friends and us, and between God
and us. How has sin affected you? Share some examples to make it real.
Jesus died for our sin, then came back to life.
God sent Jesus to live a sinless life and die a sacrificial death for us. He paid the price for our
sin—and then He came back to life. What does Jesus’ death and resurrection mean to you? Be
sure to communicate it as you tell the story.
We need to decide to put our faith in God.
Jesus paid the price for our sin, and all that is required of us is faith—to believe in God, that Jesus
is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead. God’s love gives us the choice—to have faith in
God or not. How did you make your decision to have faith in God? Talk about it.
The Holy Spirit will help us live for God.
It’s hard to live unselfishly—but the Holy Spirit will help us! The Holy Spirit teaches us, gives us
passion for God, and gives us power to be who God wants us to be and to do what God wants
us to do. In what way has the Holy Spirit helped you? Share it with your friend.
We launched this last year at youth convention, and this year we will advance this hope even further through the
launch of a devotional reading plan and journal. This will help our students internalize the hope of Jesus so they
can more confidently externalize the message of hope at school and beyond!
KIDS
WILL DO IT
I
have met countless adults who can
trace their introduction to Christianity to
a childhood experience. As a child, they
were invited to a church event by a friend or
family member. It seems so easy to lead a
child to Christ and also so easy to reach out
to kids. Children will readily accept Jesus
as their Savior and will pursue a relationship
with God on their level.
Some things to remember: most parents
are very protective of those who influence
their children – use caution and wisdom.
Children are not intimidated to invite their
classmates, friends and cousins to outreach
events that are kid-friendly. Children are
easily motivated (bribed) to invite other
children to an event that is fun, exciting and
free. Consider valuable (kid value) prizes
as incentives for kids to invite their friends.
One mother told me her son wanted his
sisters to stay home from church because
he wanted to fill the mini-van with his
friends. It works.
Remember, kids usually will bring their
parents/families after visiting a few times. It
might start as parental concern, but if you
build a relationship with the family, you can
win them to Christ as well. Make parents a
priority, too. Many of the events we do at
church can become kid magnets. Consider
the following events most churches
currently offer; these can be great outreach
events by making a few changes.
• EASTER EGG HUNTS
• VBS (and/or Mega-sports camps)
• FALL HARVEST FESTIVALS (Halloween
alternative)
• BACK TO SCHOOL INDOOR PICNIC
(Free hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy,
carnival games. We also created a jail
where kids could arrest their parents for
$1 per minute!)
• CHRISTMAS PROGRAM (featuring
children or children’s activities)
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Below are a few fun events to
add to the calendar where kids
could invite friends:
• SUPER SUNDAYS: 2-3 a year, megafun
games, prizes, Salvation emphasis
• GAME NIGHTS: fun, outrageous and
free
• MOVIE NIGHTS: indoor or outdoor,
popcorn and candy
• CHILDCARE NIGHTS: Bless church
parents to double-date with unbelieving
parents. Reach their kids with super fun
activities.
• SUMMER FUN: water games, slip and
slide or pool fun
• PICNIC IN THE PARK: a great summer
outreach
• COLOR RUN GAMES: multi-color
dusting of children while wet is a blast…
keep the garden hose handy!
• MINIATURE GOLF: make it free to child
guests
• SUPER SLIME NIGHT: games involving
slime or whipped cream are a win
• SNOW DAYS: Snow-fun, snow-balls,
snow-men and snow-tubing
– Don’t forget the hot chocolate and
cookies!
– Be prepared and schedule for the
next real snow day!
Whatever you do, keep it child friendly.
Run your ideas by a few 5 th and 6 th
graders and ask for their input (lame
or cool). Make up invite cards with
date, place, time and description. Most
outreach evangelism ideas for kids are
relatively inexpensive, so do the event with
excellence and fun. When evangelizing
kids, don’t forget to make parents a
priority. If we can help you in any way or
share ideas, please contact us at george@
ROYAL RANGERS INTERNATIONAL
REACHING OUT TO MEN AND BOYS AROUND THE WORLD
Royal Rangers International exists to
establish, strengthen and serve the
growing number of nations seeking
to impact the next generation through the
Royal Rangers Ministry. Royal Rangers is
the premier, most sought after Christian
activity-based mentoring program for kids
and young people in the world. Currently,
Royal Rangers exists in 97 different
countries around the world and the mission
of Royal Rangers is to evangelize, equip
and empower the next generation of
Christ-followers and lifelong servant leaders
in every country possible. Over 200,000
Royal Rangers in more than 97 nations are
inspired each week as they participate in our
highly relational and fun meetings.
Royal Rangers can be found in:
AFRICA
ASIA
EURASIA
LATIN AMERICA CARIBBEAN
EUROPE
USA AND CANADA
The members of the RRI Council,
representing the worldwide regions, meet
every year. It’s customary to rotate the
council to a different region each time we
come together. This year it fell to Africa to
host and they chose to do so in Nairobi,
where they enjoyed outstanding Kenyan
hospitality. The meeting is always an
important time for members to network
with each other, exchange ideas, have fun
together, pray for one another and for the
needs of the world, to receive reports, make
future plans and so much more.
These are the men and women who work
diligently to reach more children and adults
with the gospel around the world; they along
with all the volunteers in the ninety-seven
plus countries are making a difference in
people’s lives. Please, won’t you pray for the
teams working around the globe?
The PennDel District Royal Rangers have
been very instrumental in supporting RRI
and have contributed to the starting of
twenty three outposts in Africa alone over
the last two years. They also contributed
over $6,000 last year to missionaries to
support their endeavors around the world
helping to purchase generators, dig water
wells, repair churches, translate literature,
supply pastors, train leaders and hold
outreaches. Hard working Royal Ranger
boys earn money throughout the year and
bring it to powwows, campouts, and other
district functions. Offerings are then sent
to the national department and disbursed
to missionaries and special projects. Our
recent challenge has been to establish
the Royal Rangers ministry in seven new
nations in Africa and to plant 700 or more
African outposts through the continent.
Although we all cannot go into the entire
world to preach the gospel, we can be
very instrumental and effective through RRI
to support that endeavor financially. The
PennDel District has done just that.
CHANGING LIVES
BY REACHING HEARTS
“People don’t care what you know until they know how much you care”
– John Maxwell
At the heart of the Dream Centers is their desire to rescue those who have been enslaved by hunger,
homelessness, poverty, human trafficking and other life controlling issues. They do this by providing hope,
empowerment and the love of Christ – both in word and deed.
Two amazing couples, Gary and Amanda Brougher of the Pittsburgh
Dream Center and David and Shirrie Dominquez of the Philly Dream
Center, have been called of God to reach the hurting people in their cities
using unique and practical outreach ministries. Women of Purpose often
raises funds to reach those in need from countries around the world, but
this year we decided to make the Dream Centers in the PennDel Network
our 2019 Project Offering for the Spring Tour because we also believe in
reaching the lost in our own backyard.
PITTSBURGH DREAM CENTER
PHILLY DREAM CENTER
DAVID & SHIRRIE DOMINGUEZ
We salute the practical and creative approach the Dream Centers are
using to reach those who may never walk inside a church building to hear the gospel. The ideas and ministry opportunities they have
developed are ones that any church can use for their own community outreach. Prayerfully consider raising up volunteers whom God calls
to embrace one or more of the ministries listed below to reach the people of your community with love and a Jesus style compassion.
Adopt-A-Block: Volunteers select a block
in a neighborhood they adopt as their own.
Each week the group goes door-to-door
meeting the most basic needs residents may
have. Acts of service may include picking
up trash, mowing a lawn, planting flowers,
washing windows, painting a house exterior,
shoveling snow and so much more.
Mobile Food Bank: In desiring to continue
to make a greater and consistent impact to
those who are not able to receive sufficient
assistance or have barriers in getting aid
because of physical and transportation
issues, we launched a Mobile Food Bank
program where we take food to
neighborhoods on a weekly and monthly
basis.
Community Outreaches: Several
times a year we host a one-day
community or holiday outreach in various
neighborhoods partnering with other local
churches and organizations. We offer free
services and goods during this outreach.
Backpack of Hope: We fill backpacks
full of simple food to ensure children have
enough to eat over the weekend. We drop
off the backpacks Friday morning at a local
school, where the issue of hunger is great.
Chosen: A group of female volunteers
reach out to women in local strip clubs.
Our passion is to let these ladies know
they have purpose and value.
Midnight Call: We go downtown on
Sunday evening and minister to the
homeless, drug addicts and prostitutes by
taking food, blankets and other items.
Discipleship Program: A community
discipleship program should offer spiritual,
social and practical disciplines to help
wounded and hurting individuals get back
on their feet, and be restored to their
God-given potential.
Mobile Kids: A customized delivery
truck was converted into a portable
Kids’ Church. The truck is taken into
neighborhoods sharing fun, enriching
and exciting VBS type programming for
children.
PREPARING FOR YOUR
OUTREACH
Over the years I have had the privilege of participating in and/
or leading a number of missions journeys. I cannot even
explain the anticipation and excitement when my feet “hit
the ground” and I am ready to go!
However, before I ever pack a suitcase for the journey, there is a
lot of provision and preparation that must take place. I have always
enjoyed a good yard sale to help fund a trip. But to raise thousands
of dollars, it requires mountains of “stuff”! Where do you get all that
junk, you ask? Well, first off, I ask EVERYONE if they can donate
some SALABLE stuff. Then, I get in my car (with my grandson in
tow) and drive through neighborhoods – the day before trash pickup.
I am amazed at the treasures I have found!
To hold a successful yard sale, you MUST be preparing all year.
Quite often, Paul and I will be driving down a road when I see a
large item waiting with someone’s trash. My thoughts immediately
turn to a yard sale. “I know I could sell that!” Sadly, usually we leave
the item behind…
A successful yard sale requires a yard sale mindset. I need to be
planning, preparing and scavenging all the time. I look at all things
through the eyes of the yard sale: Can I sell it? What do I need to
do to make it better?
An outreach or a missions event is the same thing. It requires me
to look at life and those around me through the eyes of the Savior. I
must see the souls that God allows in my path. Can I reach that one
for Christ? How can I present Jesus to that person? What do I need
to do to allow them to see the Savior?
During this time, I must be preparing spiritually. I need to be reading,
praying, seeking God for direction and “collecting” all the inspiration,
anointing, words of Jesus that I will need to fulfill the journey to
which He has called me.
We each have been called, positioned and prepared to reach those
around us for Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to put into your spirit the
mind of Christ to see others as souls ready for the harvest.
Prepare to be ...Amazed
