Editor’s Desk
Today, we are going through the era of digital
transformation. Most of the information or
data is now available in digital form and can
be easily extracted from anywhere through the
internet. Data may be stored in self-owned data
infrastructures or third party data centers or clouds.
This data may contain personal information, the
organization’s information, books, videos, critical
secret information, and many more. This huge data is
giving birth to lots of opportunities and solutions such
as Big Data & Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and
more. Moreover, it demands high-speed internet for
this huge data transfer. This has made humans to
constantly innovate and improve internet
infrastructure so that there should be less time lag in
data sharing. As an effect, we can see the rapid
advancements in wireless technology today.
IoT
Connecting the World
with Innite Possibilities
Wireless technology has improved lot within the last
two decades and has totally changed our lifestyle.
Next-generation technologies such as 4G and 5G are
providing internet facilities at very high speed in
addition to effective utilization of resources. Easy
availability of high-speed wireless internet and
technologies such as GPS are vastly simplifying daily
human life. Routine human activities such as;
shopping, traveling, banking, marketing, etc. have
become so easy and can be performed on the
fingertips. This huge technological shift is largely
carried out by technology called Internet of Things
(IoT).
IoT is connecting humans with humans, humans with
machines and machines with machines in real time
using the internet so that everything can be tracked,
controlled and operated remotely. IoT is eliminating

the physical human presence to perform any specific task or inspect that specific task. IoT is easing the way of
doing business for industries such as transportation, marketing, manufacturing, medical, agriculture, tourism, and
more. Smart Homes, Smart Cities, Smart appliances, Autonomous Vehicles, Drones, etc. are mainly based on
IoT. In addition to that, it is also helping to track pets and wild animals, especially; it will assist to preserve
wild-life. Introduction of smart voice controlled devices by big technological giants are also using IoT and
analytics for their effective working.
Now, IoT has become one of the important parts of human life that making IoT solution providers to innovate
more and introduce more effective solutions and products. Many IoT solution companies are responsibly
transforming the IoT space with their unique offerings and products. We have highlighted many such companies
Takayoshi Oshima
Chairman & CEO

Today, we can observe the rapid transformation in
the business world with continuous advancements
in technologies and increased customer
expectations. Organizations are changing at an
ever-increasing rate and businesses are facing an uphill
battle to adapt to change, and to stay ahead of the
competition. At the same time, cities are increasingly
becoming populated; and with this growth, issues such as
demand on resources and public safety become a key focus
for government and civic leaders. Today, more than any
other time, organizations need a technology partner that has
both the vision and the capability to take network
communications to where they need them to be.
Leveraging experience of over thirty years, Allied Telesis
has been at the forefront of serving the needs of the network
Today's IoT devices are increasingly connected by wireless
services and Allied Telesis has an extensive array of both
wired and wireless products, which means organizations
can have a supplier relationship with one organization that
is able to meet all their networking needs.
Unyielding Industry Roots
The name Allied Telesis is taken from the Latin allied
(united) and Telesis (progress) which makes it an
organization that is moving forward continuously. The firm
has been delivering networking and communication
solutions to support embedded applications and systems for
over thirty years, even before the term Internet of Things or
IoT was ever used.
Today, the firm is engaged in some of the most advanced
and innovative next-generation network research, focusing
its efforts on development and production of more
intelligent, autonomously controlled and managed systems
that are required to meet the demands of the Internet of
Things and tomorrow’s networks.
A Tech-Centric Leader
Takayoshi Oshima founded Allied Telesis, a subsidiary of
Telesis Holding K.K in March 1987 and has been its
Chairman and CEO since 1987. Prior to the establishment
of Allied Telesis, he held technical, marketing and
managerial positions with companies spearheading the
growth of the high-technology industry including ITT,
Fairchild Camera Instruments, and Advanced Micro
Devices. He was recently elected to the Mineta
Transportation Institute Board of Trustees.
Oshima founded Allied Telesis with a vision to transform
the emerging data networking industry with highly reliable,
standards-based connectivity solutions that deliver value for
their customers. Today under his leadership, the corporation
is a global success story, supplying an expanding
international customer base with ever more sophisticated
hardware, software, and services solutions needed to build,
operate and secure the data networks that make business
possible.
A Reliable IoT Provider
The firm is a one-stop IoT solution provider and takes
responsibility for the services it delivers. Its base is strong
in all its three domains: i.e. Hardware, Software, and
Customer support.
These three stiff bases build the trust within their customers
who know there is one organization on which they can

‘
‘
Our hard-earned reputation
for standards-based
performance, product reliability
and value has remained constant
depend for all their requirements - they know that the
responsibility lies with Allied Telesis when it matters
most.
Customer Oriented Approach
The firms' focus has always been about smart
networking and delivering technology that helps to
simplify the process of deploying networks while
maintaining a high degree of security. An example
of this is delivering technology that can automate
or continuously optimize a wired or wireless
environment which frees human resources to
focus on other activities while at the same time
improving consistency and reducing human error.
In term of security, the company’s UTM firewalls
deliver a high-performance, fully featured
security platform with a powerful firewall and
threat protection capability that is ideal for
today's converged and IoT environments.
Not only does Allied Telesis deliver cybersecurity
solutions through their array of UTM
firewalls and security appliances, but they have also
integrated other innovative security solutions such as
Active Fiber Monitoring (AFM) into their portfolio of
products. AFM allows an alert to be generated upon
tampering or interception with fiber infrastructure which is
critical given the volumes of data being transmitted today
and the increasing reliance on fiber for transmission.
One of the other benefits of partnering with Allied Telesis is
the service and support that is delivered by its professional

Cover Story
services team ensuring customers make the most of their
investment in technology from the firm.
Accounting For Industry Needs
According to the firm, as IoT devices are increasingly being
connected wirelessly, wireless technology has become a
particular area of importance. While the wireless standards
such as IEEE 802.11n and IEEE 802.11ac deliver more
speed for a single user or device, they do not overcome
today's underlying challenges of cell-based wireless
technology. As such, Allied Telesis has developed an
innovative range of wireless products and technology that
helps to overcome the challenges of cell-based wireless
technology by using single-channel architecture. It delivers
seamless roaming and far greater reliability than traditional
cell-based wireless solutions.
In addition, for organizations that need to use a cell-based
architecture, the firm delivers a hybrid wireless solution
where a cell-based architecture can be used for some
applications and a single channel architecture, which means
organizations do not need to compromise when it comes to
performance and reliability.
The firm is also observing organizations that are embracing
convergence. Previously, an organization would deploy
separate networks for SCADA, CCTV, IP telephony and
corporate applications, however, today organizations deploy
a single converged network to support all of their
Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology
(OT) systems.
With people, devices and other things being increasingly
connected and the value of the information being collected
growing, security needs to be given greater emphasis than it
currently is. Allied Telesis has a range of innovative
products and technologies that have been tailored for use
with embedded applications and IoT environments.
Guiding New Entrants
The firm strongly advises treating the customer like partners
in business rather than just suppliers to business. In order to
maximize the benefits, a good sharing of knowledge both
backward and forwarded between organizations must exist
so that everyone can make the most of every opportunity.
The firm states that “All too often we see organizations that
hold their suppliers at arm's length and treat them as just
that – suppliers. And in many cases, this results in a missed
Our solutions based
philosophy, produces
products that deliver
value to our customers
‘
‘
opportunity to gain more from whatever deployment of
change is being undertaken”. Earlier, closer engagement
can see organizations like Allied Telesis to provide practical
and valuable advice that can potentially reduce costs,
increase functionality or decrease risk or possibly all above
mentioned.
Networks for Today and Tomorrow
With the rise of Big Data and Cloud Computing,
organizations will continue to see the size of speeds and
feeds increasing. Where 40G and 100G in the past would
have seemed like almost limitless in terms of capacity,
tomorrow the industry will see these as commonplace
within the backbone of many networks.
The firm believes that while the port density and bandwidth
of devices will continue to increase, the truly interesting
developments in the future in terms of features and
functionality will come from software features that will
help in solving real-world business challenges. These
challenges may revolve around agility and flexibility and
ensuring that the network can change and adapt to different
traffic patterns or as organizations need it to change or they
may be around the cost and complexity of managing
technology infrastructure.
Allied Telesis also expect closer coupling of applications
and the underlying infrastructure so the pipes that carry
information or data around an organization have a better
understanding of what that data is and can make smarter
decisions about that data. This all leads into the realm of
Intent-Based Networking (IBN) along with Software
Defined Networking (SDN), which have the ability to
redefine the benefits that the technology can deliver.

unlocking a car from over 20 seconds to less than one
second.
• 360-degree customer experience in the entertainment
industry by enabling notifications across devices and
screens and remote control of home devices like TVs
and set-up boxes.
18
• Accelerate market entry of IoT projects by handling the
most critical and important component the data
movement from and to IoT devices in a fast and reliable
fashion.
• Enable new business models due to the push-based and
constant connection.
Q. With the introduction of new technologies like AI and
vast improvement in wireless technologies & telecom
infrastructure, what are the scopes and challenges
coming with it?
All the new technologies like AI are still in the very
beginning, so there will be a lot of new possibilities for
companies to use these technologies in order to provide
a better product for their customers. One of the
challenges will definitely be to transfer and process the
large amounts of data, which will rise up exponentially.
So having a reliable, efficient and highly scalable
solution to exchange the data is the foundation for
leveraging the potential of these technologies.
Q. What can be expected from your company in near
future?
We are currently getting ready for the next challenges
our customers are facing and solving them before they
have them. We are on our journey to enable even more
businesses to connect their products by providing new
versions of our product HiveMQ and expanding the
ecosystem around it with additional products and tools,
to make it easier than ever to deploy IoT solutions with
10.000.000+ devices. Also starting 2019 we will be
expanding our business in the US, with the help of the
German Accelerator Tech, where we have been one of
14 companies selected to participate in.
HOW STARTUPS CAN CAPITALIZE
ON IOT'S NEW CO-ECONOMY
Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the key technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution which promises to
transform and disrupt our current business. It’s like a “do or die” thing. Even though Kevin Ashton have coined
the term “IoT” in 1999, it’s only four to 5 years ago that we see a sudden increase of renewed interest in IoT
due to multiple factors such as the price of hardware becoming cheaper, communications becoming more pervasive,
software development becoming more easier, Moore’s Law doubling the computing power and the impact of
Metcalf’s network effects.
We are also seeing a transformation in the business model. Initially, it’s all about technology-based, product-based
or service-based business model. However, with IoT, we can offer a new business model based on outcome. For
example, I will pay your solution if it can guarantee to reduce my electricity bill by 30% or pay me this amount if I
can guarantee you that your healthcare costs reduce by 50% this year.
The new business posed great challenge since it requires enough data or information to make a particular decision.
These data can come from various sources including the sensor data. Building an IoT solution requires many parties
to be involve since every part of the IoT value-chain requires specialization such as chipsets, devices, connectivity,
middleware, applications, data analytics and system integration.
Below are the main key factors how Startup can capitalize on IoT’s new co-economy:
1. Leverage their agility – Startup work faster than many bigger companies. They are more innovative and have
faster decision process. Successful Startup will be normally acquired by bigger companies to be part of their
whole ecosystem.
2. Specialist in their own areas – Startup is excellent in one or two things. They have the knowledge depth in
specific area. They can be a very good partner and to fill the gap required by a bigger project.
3. Capturing the immature market – IoT is still at an infancy stage but have great potential. With the use of cloud,
IoT services can be reach worldwide. A smart building or smart parking solution can have their IoT middleware
resides across the world.
4. Think big but start small – IoT have four maturity phases. In many IoT implementation journey, we can start
with as simple as monitoring and later towards control. As we include more sensors and actuators, we can
reach the phase of optimise and finally the ultimate phase of making the solution autonomous.
5. IoT DNA – Startup should capitalize the journey of an individual organization’s digital transformation journey
IoT has taken a long journey and now it has become an integral part of Fourth Industrial Revolution and beyond.
It will be very pervasive and will change the landscape of current business whether you like it or not. It is no
longer a monopoly economy due to multiple technologies and specific talents required. Startups have to take
Now Trending
here was a time when a desktop-based application was
Tconsidered as a popular choice for managing the on-line
business. However, with the advent of cutting-edge mobile
technologies, deeper penetration of internet across the globe and
affordable mobile devices, no one can imagine running a profitable
business without having a mobile app.
There are reports which clearly indicates that having a mobile app can
prove a boon for your business. According to Techcrunch.com, Black
Friday sales done through mobile devices last year touched over 35%.
This impressive percentage was 16% more as compared to the sales
done a few years ago, according to IBM Holiday Benchmark Reports.
In fact, in a famous case study, it was revealed that when Domino’s
Pizza launched their mobile app, they witnessed an astonishing surge
of over 28 percentage points in half-year pre-tax profits in the UK
alone.
You can also witness an upsurge in profits by crafting an alluring fast
pace mobile app. Let’s check how a mobile app can turn your fortune
for a good.
It Crafts a Brand to Remember
According to one prominent study it is found that nearly threequarters
of Americans check their mobile phones at least once per
hour. This study revealed that mammoth 90% of that time, American
spends while working on mobile apps. Interestingly, Americans now
spend more time on their mobile phones as compared to watching
Television.
Therefore, the presence of your app is crucial in the gallery of your
targeted audience. Missing such can only prove fatal in long run. Your
app can create a brand value for your business and let your business
to get recognized to the entire world. In fact, in marketing, there is the
ns-
one saying- ones a brand is created, money start filling into the company's coffers sooner or later. Your mobile app
can create a brand for your business and increase your outreach to the even untapped territory. By crafting it stylish
with the addition of informative and functional features, you can connect with the hearts of your targeted
customers. Once your customers get involved with your app, the probability of buying your product becomes high.
In advertising this is popularly called the “effective frequency”: as a rule of thumb, hearing and/or seeing your
brand approximately 20 times is what will get you truly noticed.
Instant Notifications
Humans love instant gratification and attract very easily towards anything that can give them instant benefit.
According to some prominent studies, when you offer a discount and other offers, more customers are likely to turn
towards your business. However, not everyone gets informed in advance about the discounts, special offers and
other packages that can benefit them. Having a business app for the mobile platform can assist you to attract more
consumers towards your services by sending an instant notification. Such notifications can inform your targeted
customers about the different deals, discount, and other events in advance without any hassle (in fact on-the-go)
and result in boosting your revenue.
For best results, schedule your push notifications at the right time. Everyone nowadays lives a hectic life schedule,
and thus no one wants to get disturbed while at work or while sleeping. The promotional messages thus need to get
triggered after work hours or on weekends to get read by most of your targeted audience.
Social Referrals
Referral programs are a great hit these days. Every business is expanding its business footprint with intriguing
marketing techniques. Your loyal customers can run your marketing campaign that can prove a boon not only for
your business but for your customers as well. With the reward of bonus points or instant cash, they can share your
app with others (family, friends and other). Such campaigns can increase the visibility of your business to even untargeted
category and assist in building a new customer base. Thus, you can increase sales with minimal extra
effort!
Easy Orders
Many humans are ‘lazy’ by nature who tries to avoid doing even a minuscule task if it is not at all on high priority.
Your services might be exceptional, but will people come to your shop for buying that thing is a million-dollar
question. Having a business app, you can turn those prospects into customers who otherwise happy to compromise
on mediocre stuff due to long-distance constraints. Your business app can empower such customers to place an
order just within a few clicks in a hassle-free manner. Easy order, real-time tracking, and secure payments options
provides a great benefit to customers and are the prime reasons behind the stupendous growth of many e-
commerce giants like Amazon, Alibaba, FlipKart, e-Bay and more.
Moreover, your app can assist in analyzing your customer preferences, feedback and suggestions that too in realtime,
which ultimately assist you in optimizing your services for serving them better in the future.
Mobility is the on-going trend. If you still don’t have brought your business on the mobile platform, then we urge
to do so. Not leveraging the benefits of mobile technologies can only help your counterparts to outpace you. Since
the race is tight, profit margins are shrinking, and competition going fierce. It’s time to take a decision!
company succeeds, I succeed too”.
Standing Tall Among Competitors
The firm has raised its profits with double digits from the
last three years. It has reached profit margins that are of
the top segment in the industry. Additionally, EDRMedeso
is recognized as the global leader in the simulation and
BIM industry. The enterprise has experienced every
aspect of the industry and has attracted the best clients
from all over the world. The firm also feels proud of its
name in the IoT sector, and more clients are now
proposing to be its partners.
Built for the Customers
The digital twin side of the firm aid customers in opening
new revenues. The clients can use the simulated data from
the live product and feed that back into the product’s
development phase. Clients can further predict the
product’s future with the embedded sensors from the IoT
and then use a combination of physics-based simulation
and big data analysis to come up with scenarios based on
that. The corporation further believes that technologies
like additive manufacturing and 3D printing open the
opportunities for enterprises to take a broader segment of
profit margin.
Guiding Budding Entrepreneurs
and running away with distractions can lose focus, which
will ultimately result in losing the deliverables and the
clients,” says Niklas.
Future Simulations
“
We will make our
customers leaders in
innovation, digital product
development and operations,
by providing the best
digital lab software, training,
“
competencies and services
EDRMedeso will continue to provide simulations to its
customers and help them gather insights into how their
clients use their products. Sometimes clients use products
a little differently than they were intended. With these
new insights, the firm will aid customers in modifying the
existing products. It will also continue to enclose more
trending technologies to its Digital Twins and BIM to
support design through its phases, allowing stronger
analysis and control than manual processes. When
executed, these computer-generated models will contain
precise geometry and desired data to aid the construction,
fabrication, and procurement activities through which the
design is realized.
“The most critical part is to establish the customer value
and based on that define a Strategy and connected plan
with clear goals. The procedure should not be
complicated and must match the objectives of the
business. Start-ups must stick to the agenda and execute it
very carefully. The focus should be the center of attention
INNOVATION
CULTURE for a
FUTURE-READY
Organisation
s the digital landscape continues to change at a rapid pace,
Adismantling and disrupting the way that we do business, how can
we ensure that our leadership and organisational thinking evolves
at the same rate? The CEO is ultimately responsible for the success or
failure of the company that they lead, which, in today’s world, means
ensuring an organisation can adapt to this fast rate of change. To do this,
leaders need to know how to innovate with agility and speed. This means,
on the ground during day-to-day work, that each employee has a clear
understanding of how they contribute to creating value out of new ideas
and a common language to enable them to work together. As a CEO, part
of your role is to foster a culture of innovation that can harness the often
disparate skills and mindsets required to successfully innovate. The key is
to understand that innovation is a journey, which includes spotting trends
and discontinuities and generating new ideas, through to investing and
implementing those ideas that can potentially have the most impact. The
skill is to know how to match people’s strengths to the right part.
How do employees currently react to innovation conversations?
Often, the first people to embrace innovation tend to love ideas and can
identify trends, patterns and opportunities. They are curious and fit the
classic stereotype of creativity – playful, open-minded and attracted to
novelty. Innovation, truly deep and sustainable innovation,
combines both creativity and discipline, which are curious
bedfellows. It is a considered process that requires a raft of
different skills and ways of thinking, combined towards
creating a common outcome. In fact, the innovation journey
is more like a cycle that can start at any point, not just in the
playful and curious spaces.
There are probably many employees in your organisation
who do not identify with this sense of curiosity, or think
that they have light bulb moments, but who are nonetheless
crucial to the success of innovation as an outcome. You will
not embed an agile innovation culture without showing
employees of all stripes and skillsets where they fit in. The
innovation culture needs a common framework and
language. Within this shared understanding, different styles
are more likely to interact with, and appreciate, the
contribution of others. Creating the best environment for
each stage of the journey, so that people are empowered to
contribute their strengths will improve the likelihood of
success.
Understanding the innovation journey
Start with aligning teams around PURPOSE, what are they
trying to achieve and why? Then move to how they can
identify opportunities through understanding trends and
patterns, often related to changes in human behaviour. Then
move to the creative space where people ignite ideas,
through practices such as brainstorming and value
proposition design. After you have an array of ideas, submit
them to analysis and experimentation, separating the good
ones from the bad, investigating whether they are useful,
not just novel. The interrelationship between these three
spaces is often where you see design thinking processes in
action. Now, if you have a few really good ideas that have a
high chance of working, start to think through how to best
make them work. If not, revisit the original-identified
opportunity or generate alternative ideas and solutions.
When ready for investment, innovation leadership is really
critical. This is often the graveyard of ideas. Here
demonstrate courage; assign resources, whether it is people,
time or money. Once ideas are funded, find people who are
great at implementation and getting things done. Once the
idea is starting to get traction and have an impact, harness
the skills of improvement and optimisation to scale and
leverage the ideas into other areas of opportunity.
There are no straight roads. This is why innovating is often
so difficult. Not only are you trying to do something new,
30
you have to harness diversity towards an often unknown
outcome. Creating the best environment for each stage of
the journey, so that people are empowered to contribute
their strengths, will help to create a successful outcome.
This means teaching people when to contribute and when to
pass the baton on to someone else. This is true
collaboration, anchored in a clear purpose that is focused on
the success of the idea.
Give each of your employees a proactive role in the
innovation journey
Culture could be termed “how we do things around here”
and part of what contributes towards this is how leaders act
and behave towards the people that they manage and lead.
Even more so when it comes to innovating. If people
understand their contribution, they will have the confidence
and courage to start thinking of themselves as innovators.
They will also understand when they will have the most
impact. The innovation journey needs a different culture at
different points; a culture that allows for ideas to be
generated is not the same as one needed to investigate those
ideas.
Innovation and the CEO
Lead by example. Understand the part of the innovation
journey that you are best at, and be aware of the bias that
you will have because of that. Increase the awareness of
yourself and others,so that you can empower everyone to
cultivate environments that allow their strengths to flourish.
Ensure that every skillset and its contribution to innovation
is respected and rewarded. This can only be done by
understanding the whole of the innovation journey, end-toend.
Diversity is key, if you have a lot of people who are
good at generating ideas, you may end up with very little
that actually gets done. If you have a lot of people who are
good at implementation, you may end up dealing with
today’s work very well, but not have the culture of a
future-ready organisation that can adapt to fast-paced
change tomorrow. In empowering your leaders and
employees to develop their creative potential, in the
broadest sense of the word, innovation will start to seep
through the whole of your organisation, embedding a
culture that will increase the likelihood of you creating
impactful value out of new ideas.
Blockchain technology is an impressive breakthrough
in the field of science and technology. Its popularity
has skyrocketed over the years due to its extensive
and far-fetched capabilities and promise of making business
process smoother, faster, and secure. Smart Contracts and
Content Streaming are the new trends that are benefitting
immensely by this new age technology. These new facets
are toppling established market leaders and creating newer
opportunities for new-age start-ups entrepreneurs.
Smart Contracts
Contracts are the most vital part of any business operation
and no business can achieve its ultimate objective without
following the contractual guidelines. While we have seen
traditional contracts been a popular method of framing
contracts since ages, Smart Contracts have now pulling
everyone’s attention towards it. The reason behind Smart
Contracts’ immense popularity is its fascinating features
like: It does not take days to build a contract; in fact it does
that in minutes. Unlike traditional contracts where escrow,
physical presence and lawyers are necessary; Smart
Contracts do not require any such things and thus provides
a much smoother and faster way to craft a contract. Apart
from these, the most interesting feature behind its rising
popularity is that it takes only a fraction of the cost to craft
the contract as compared to traditional contracts. But at the
crux of all, what is making all these things possible. The
answer is blockchain technology.
Due to blockchain, Smart Contracts can create airtight
agreements bypassing third parties. Many industries are
now looking towards Smart Contracts as a mean to lay out
business transactions. It has plenty of applications in all
sorts of industries ranging from finance, real estate, and
logistics to recruitment. In fact, any industry that relies on
agreement to function can benefit immensely with Smart
Contracts.
These contracts offer transparency and security while
simultaneously speeding up the whole business process.
While smart contracts have the potential to become legal
contracts, they should not be confused with legal contracts
accepted by courts. In the near future, we will probably see
a fusion of legal contracts and smart contracts as the
technology becomes more mature and scalable.
Content Streaming
Streaming content online is the new trend this world is
witnessing these days. Whether to watch a movie, song or a
famous TV-series, more and more people are using online
services. According to one prominent survey, a whopping
61 % of respondents aged between18-29 primarily use
online streaming services to watch television. But the
current technology consumes large amount of processing
power, and make the maintenance of all data, servers and
Business Buzz
networks significantly costly, thus resulting in to the
increased maintenance cost of traditional video-streaming
technology. Blockchain technology process large amount of
data and charge significantly lesser as compared to the
traditional technology for streaming videos. Moreover, this
technology provides better content independence, content
monetization, and censor-free content distribution.
Independence of Content: The present day content
distribution is done through centralized hubs and the power
of distribution is left in the hands of centralized corporation.
And since the distribution is limited to these hubs, the
creators are also limited in contact with the viewer.
Although, with the arrival of blockchain technology,
content creators can use peer-to-peer distribution channel
effectively by removing the centralized hub and can use a
system where independent content creators can market and
distribute their contents directly to the viewers.
Content Monetization: The traditional centralized method
provides creators only paltry ways to earn money with their
creative content like: AdSense allows YouTube publishers
to earn money from advertisements that are linked to video
itself, but this method is not at par with the current times as
it strips value from the content itself, effectively reduces the
true content creators to taking maximum benefits from
advertising revenue. Blockchain technology provides an
innovative technique known as tokenizing content for users
to monetize their contents directly. Enterprises use tokens
through initial coin offerings (ICO), which can be used by
creators to promote their content, or by consumers to access
and consume content. With tokenizing, blockchain makes it
possible for users to choose what to offer while gaining
monetary gain directly from the content itself.
Censor-free Content: Today, we have many video sharing
platforms, which contain considerable level of censorship
and creators are not allowed to produce/distribute their
content without following stringent guidelines. Censorship
is a requirement of content distribution but not always it is
essential. Many times the authorities do the censorship,
which is not at all required and impact the revenue of
creators and also disappoint the viewers. Blockchain
technology uses P2P systems and thus allows for
censor-free content distribution and empower both the
creators and viewers. It allows creators to promote their
content directly to those who want to consume it.
The applications of blockchain technology is immense, this
makes it popular. The profound impact of this distributed
ledger technology is far greater than anyone can realize.
This technology has the potential to change the landscape
of economics, business and society at large. We are just at
the beginning of its technological adventure.
How
to innovate
an
industry:
e telecommunication sector and the software
defined network revolution
ultinational enterprise today
Mare facing a huge range of
challenges as digitization,
globalization and new IT solutions call
for innovative network solutions.
According to Gartner, around 80% of
employees and customers are served in
branch offices. And a survey done by
research company Populus shows that
even 41% of small and medium
companies say, they do business in
countries outside their own.
Enterprises thus need to interconnect
sites and workforces around the globe
with greater flexibility and agility than
ever before.
In addition, new cloud-based
applications are driving demand for
greater connectivity and higher
bandwidths with premium network
performance and security. According to
a survey done by Gartner, the
worldwide public cloud service market
grew by 18% in 2017. And market
researchers from Cisco see an increase
of global business IP traffic by 21%
until 2021. Thus, enterprises need new
data connectivity services to cope with
the increasing network requirements.
A sharing economy approach to
provide a “one-stop-shop”
experience for enterprises
Many global companies we talk to
have a growing international presence
or customer base, and they need a
secure approach to connect their
34
worldwide operations. Most of the time
they are relying on several service
providers to deliver the needed
services. But this procurement set-up
often makes e.g. the addition of new
sites or changes to an existing network
connection complicated and slow.
Instead of having to negotiate, obtain,
and manage disparate connectivity
from various providers, it would be
much better, if one trusted partner
could manage and operate the
complete data connectivity services as
a “one-stop shop” for all global
network needs of a company. And this
is exactly, why we have initiated an
alliance of leading service providers
and founded ngena.
ngena stands for »Next Generation
Enterprise Network Alliance« and is an
alliance of global telecommunications
providers that are joining forces in a
shared economy model to offer a
solution that can overcome the
customer challenges described above.
Founded in early 2016, ngena has seen
more than 17 strong international
partners around the globe joining the
alliance. Founded by Deutsche
Telekom, CenturyLink, Reliance Jio
and SK Telekom, the alliance has now
grown to include several new telecom
partners such as A1, Altice with SFR
and Portugal Telecom, Expereo, KPN,
MTN, Neutrona, Starhub, Telus,
PCCW Global and VEON plus
technology partners Cisco, Comarch
and Equinix.
Software-define networks – much
more than a hype
From a technology perspective, the
alliance provides a central cloud
platform that merges the local
networks of all alliance partners,
forming a single global Software
Defined Wide Area Network (SD-
WAN). The architecture is based on
sharing the local network assets using
cloud and virtualization technology to
provide hybrid VPN services with
additional service options (e.g. network
optimization services, security services
etc.). Thus, all local partners can
deliver performant and secure data
connectivity services to their end
customers on a global scale.
Enterprises benefit from this approach
in many ways: on the one hand they
get a global network service which is
secure, stable, scalable and easy to use;
on the other hand, they profit from the
local access and local care of their
regional telecommunication provider.
One of ngena’s technology partners is
US technology giant Cisco. Cisco has
been working with the alliance from
the start to design and build the service
delivery platform behind ngena. The
platform is powered by technologies
that feature high-performance cloud
infrastructure, layered orchestration for
end-to-end seamless automation,
service assurance, virtual network
December 2018|

functions, and customer premise equipment portfolio. Combined with
Cisco’s newly acquired Viptela SD-WAN technology, this platform
enables ngena to offer enterprises cost-effective and reliable
business network services. The ngena solution is designed to
meet customer requirements for single sourcing of service
providers for global enterprise network services, faster
service roll-out at any location in the world, and
predictable end-to-end service level agreements.
Expert’s Viewpoint
What is also special about this model is that the Cisco
technology integrates with a third-party Business and
Operations System (B/OSS) developed by software
company Comarch. With the help of this cloud
platform, all alliance partners can configure and
manage the global networks of their customers
centrally. Thus, they can change network
configurations, add new accesses or make fast changes
to existing networks with a tip of a mouse click.
The transformation has just begun
The potential power of the ngena approach is really
impressive. It’s a transformative initiative that
combines an innovative business model, strong
industrial partnerships, a cloud-first, software-based
technology platform, and a high degree of process
automation. Together those attributes enable ngena
and its alliance partners to uniquely address the
needs of multinational enterprises and leapfrog the
classic competition.
Growing with Advancement in Technology
The Internet of Things (IoT) has set the IT world on fire
with innovative technologies and astonishing growth levels.
The rate of data collection has also accelerated markedly in
recent years: an IBM Marketing Cloud study claims 90% of
the total data in the world was created in just the past two
years, at a rate of 2.5 quintillion bytes of data per day.
To support this exponential growth in data collection, new
smart connected sensors and assets are being deployed
every day. This, in turn, calls for innovations in the
machine-to-machine (M2M) and IoT networks which carry
the vast flow of data, in order to mitigate the cost and
inefficiency of handling data centrally in the cloud. IoT
networks of the future must adopt a decentralized
architecture in which processing of raw data begins not in
the cloud, but at the network edge.
To respond to this need, MultiTech has embedded
intelligence into their edge devices to support on-site data
processing and response, as appropriate. Even with the
potential bandwidth improvements promised by 5G, the
combination of AI and IoT will require additional
processing overhead and more intensive edge intelligence
to manage real-time decision making for industrial
applications.
Future Roadmap
MultiTech will continue to be innovation focused on
solving our customer’s biggest IoT pain points through a
combination of product enhancements, targeted support
services and tailored bundled solutions.
ARE
HUMANS
he coming years will spectate a time
Twhen the entire work place would look
different. Half of the world has already
been infused by Artificial Intelligence. In this
technology driven life, people seldom have time
to waste. Today there is an alternate to every
problem that linger humans. Let it be about
automated or smart cars being used to move
around, or taking help of “Siri” ‒ the personal
assistant to help with directions, make a call or for
any kind of service. The auto generated texts that
is received from banks, Facebook wishing
birthdays, reminders or events set in calendars,
email filtering spam messages are all performed
through automation. Thus, AI has its influence in
every aspect of one’s life.
ON THE
VERGE
TO DROP THEIR
JOBS?
The world today is moving in a swift manner and
there is a shift at how we live, move and
communicate. Time seems to be barrier here as
everyone is in rush to adapt to the changes. As
humans, communicating to another being is very
important. There are automatic secretaries that
help in arranging such gatherings with all the
necessary information. Everything out in the
world is just at finger tips away. Scheduling
meetings, ordering grocery, making dinner plans,
ordering food at work or at home anything is
possible. Technology has opened up infinite
opportunities and the growth of technology in
such a small span of time is commendable. How
much easier can life be with the help of these
technologies? The answer lies in future.
Considering the changes that have occurred in
past few years, it can be assured that AI is
growing and the scopes are infinite.
Robots to live midst us
The alluring thing about humans is that they are
always looking for something new and they strive
40
December 2018|

Chalk Talk
to make their lives easier. It doesn’t need a genius to know
that the drastic change in every ones lives and the
implementation of AI is the outcome of human thinking and
hence it won’t be startling if robots would actually live
amongst humans. If such a thing happens then the work
load on humans would be reduced to minimal. Is that a
good thing or bad? However from the outside this new
world that would emerge seems like effortless. Most of the
hazardous tasks like defusing a bomb, working at coal
mine, using heavy and dangerous machines and even at war
field would become less of a nightmare. Among other
things AI is playing a major role in business and other work
fields
which give a
possibility of robots
replacing workers in
the market.
As a coin has two sides, this
initiation could have drawbacks,
but there is brighter side too. If
workers are being replaced with robots
then there would be higher productivity and
lesser time consumption. There would be a
change in the graph of economic growth too. For
example automated surveillance can be a boon to the
entire mankind. Improved machine tools like 360 degree
video cameras, sensors that can cover all kinds of images
that pass by will bring a massive change. It might even put
the jobs of security guards at question but this change will
be a turning point. It can reduce the risks of thefts
and other incidents.
There is another masterpiece of AI that can be
called as the game changer. AI robots are replacing
receptionists. Handing multiple clients can be tiring
and can at times even create confusions and thus
replacing humans with robots is both impressive
and time saving. Imagine how it would feel like
when you are entering a museum and you are
welcomed by a robot who gives you a quick,
precise and clear tour of all the things in that
museum. How wonderful is that? Robots can even
be replaced by workers at factory. This brilliant step
has lots of advantages. Workers at coal mine sites or
any such mineral sites are always prone to danger,
the replacement of humans by robots can reduce
this risk and also it will be helpful in increasing
productivity. Similarly AI robots can take over
works of a driver, data analyst, delivery boys,
advertising salesperson, telemarketer, bookkeeping
clerks and many other such strenuous and boring
jobs. That is not all they can be also be useful in
other high intelligent jobs like that of an accountant.
A robot will never go wrong with calculations and
numbers.
Are humans ready for this change?
The biggest fear that lingered humans since years
was what will happen to humans if robot takes
over? Seems like humans are about to get their
answers. AI robot is not a dream anymore rather it
is the hard truth that the coming generation has to
face. According the reports released by McKinsey
& Company, 800 million workers would be
replaced by robots worldwide by the year 2030. The
report also stated that the countries with advanced
economies like U.S and Germany up to one-third of
work force might be replaced by robots by the year
2030. Does this suggest that the workers would
have to learn other skills and find other jobs? The
future looks both scary and impressive and what
does it has in store can only be unfolded with time.
Ultra-Broadband
Fixed Wireless Access with
Point-to-Multipoint at 28 GHz
ixed wireless access (FWA) is a solution that has
Fbeen around for more than a decade as an alternative
to xDSL, fiber and other wired broadband access
technologies. Used to provide access to the underserved,
usually in sub-urban or rural areas, it is also utilized as a
complementary solution by WISPs or CLECs to provide
competitive services. FWA is more applicable to the
residential or small-business markets that constantly use
bandwidth hungry applications.
Challenges of FWA Networks
Ÿ Technology selection
Fixed line networking -with fiber, cable access or even
xDSL/vectoring technologies- provides high capacity and
reliability but at a significant CapEx. Moreover, typical
copper-based xDSL technologies cannot offer high
capacities. Modern wireless technologies are already
field-proven and operators invest in related solutions to
deliver residential broadband access services as
efficiently as possible.
Ÿ Fast rollout
Deployment time is also important in the fiercelycompetitive
telecom market. As a result, operators have to
consider wireless technologies for such a solution, as they
have a significant advantage over fixed line networking in
terms of the time it takes to reach the end customer, and
also generate CapEx savings. Ease of installation and
commissioning is also critical for the OpEx of large
deployments.
Ÿ Scalability of CPE
The higher the number of Customer Premises Equipment
that can be served in a sectorized area, the faster the ROI.
Increase in demand should not obligate additional
spending on equipment infrastructure at the hub sites.
High sector capacity is also an important factor to
consider, combined with the spectrum efficiency of the
deployed system.
Ÿ Cost of infrastructure
The FWA market and especially the residential access
applications are price sensitive as far as the CPE is
concerned. Wireless ISPs that plan to deploy fixed
wireless broadband networks and offer attractive monthly
packages need to select equipment vendors that will
provide low CapEx solutions and generate profitable
investments.
High-capacity FWA does not have to wait for 5G
The current FWA sub-6GHz technologies offer maximum
throughputs in the order of tens of Mbps per user. Everyone
is waiting for the holy grail of 5G access and its fiber like
performance. The question is why does it take so long to
mature? In the past, mobile standards were designed to
improve on previous ones in one or two ways, such as voice
or mobile broadband. 5G, however, has a much broader
scope. From its conception, the creators of 5G wanted the
network to handle several different functions, including
enhanced mobile broadband, massive machine type
communications, also called IoT, and critical, ultrareliable
42
Business Insider
and low-latency communications.
The demand for broadband services both
in the enterprise and the premium
residential user segments is constantly
growing.
Despite good fiber availability in large
cities, the deployment of microwave
access links (28/39 GHz) can be quicker
and cheaper in many cases. Analysts are
projecting double digit growth rates in
the FWA market in the forthcoming
years. This is seen by many WISPs and
CLECs as an opportunity to deploy highcapacity
FWA services today and not
wait for 5G to happen.
Advantages of Area-Licensed
Spectrum with FWA
Senior Product Manager,
Wireless Network Systems, Intracom Telecom
About the company
Intracom Telecom is a global
telecommunication systems and
solutions vendor operating for over
40 years in the market. The
company has become the
benchmark in fixed wireless access
and it successfully innovates in the
5G/4G wireless front haul,
backhaul and small-cell SON
backhaul international arena.
Many operators already possess, or
consider acquiring, area-licensed
spectrum and would like to take
advantage both of their investment and
the extra assurance offered by licensed
spectrum with respect to interference, in
order to deploy FWA in these
frequencies.
Owning area-licensed spectrum (as
opposed to per-link licensed spectrum)
enables the use of PtMP systems and
offers the advantage of not requiring a
separate licensing procedure for the
planning and installation of each link,
which is a consideration if one has to
deploy, and potentially re-deploy,
multiple links within a short period of
time.
Licensed spectrum for the bandwidthrich,
area-licensed 10.5/26/28 GHz
bands, is ideal for dense FWA
deployment in residential applications.
The benefit of using licensed spectrum is
the assurance of avoiding interference
from competing operator systems using
the same bands.
