for the District to operate.
The State of Illinois has not
given much guidance as to
what the future might hold.
Families may not be able to
justify moving to our District
and paying high taxes
if the tax revenue is not
applied to the schools or if
that tax does not provide a
significant enough deduction.
The District must be
prepared to deal with any
financial impact dealt by
decisions made at the Federal
and State level so that
the quality of education
can remain constant even if
funding is reduced.
What makes you the
best/a top candidate for
this position?
First, I bring my legal
background to this position.
I have prosecuted and
defended cases of employment
discrimination and
have first-hand knowledge
of both Federal and State
laws applicable in employment
law. I have been able
to apply my legal background
and experiences
to the Policy Committee
improve your constituents’
quality of life?
At the local level, our
biggest jobs are fiscal responsibility,
excellence
in education and school
safety. The residents of
District 27 place great trust
in their board to utilize their
tax dollars as efficiently as
possible to educate our
children to succeed in a dynamic
world and keep them
safe. Over the next couple
of years, we’re going to
tackle those challenges by
making capital improvements
on our buildings,
continuing to enhance our
curriculum such as by expanding
upon our STEAM
offerings and continue to
and was able to maneuver
through the numerous Federal
and State regulations
that must be incorporated
to the District’s policies.
Further, I have spent the
last 23 years interpreting
complex laws to clients
and have used that skill to
explain how policies affect
the District and can explain
the ramifications or consequences
of certain actions
or inactions. My legal experience
has enabled me to
remain objective and view
my position as a member of
the Board through the eyes
of a Board member rather
than a parent. I am able to
understand that as a member
of the Board, my obligation
is to the District and
not to my own child to the
possible detriment of others.
I have a complete understanding
of the “fiduciary”
and other legal duties a
Board member must have.
Most importantly, my role
as a litigation attorney has
taught me to defer to others
and understand and admit
when I do not know or
understand. I work closely
with medical experts, forensic
accountants, engineers,
accident reconstructionist
experts and others
refine the district’s Emergency
Preparedness Plan.
What makes you the
best/a top candidate for
this position?
Over the last 20 years,
I’ve either served in the military
or worked in finance. I
have a strong understanding
of how to safeguard our
schools based on my background
in the military where
I developed force protection
plans to safeguard key infrastructure
following 9/11.
Following my service in the
military, I developed a strong
understanding of finance
after spending close to 15
years working in finance for
various investment banks.

member, that allows me to
defer to the “experts” in accounting,
curriculum, security
and so on and defer to
them (not without question,
of course) in determining
what is best for the District.
Second, I am a business
owner and oversee a staff.
Understanding that my
role as an employer is on
small scale (9 employees);
I have worked with benefit
administrators, insurers,
regulators, bankers and so
on which has helped me
understand what is necessary
to keep the District
operating.
Finally, I currently have
a child in the District and
have one that is currently
a freshman at Glenbrook
North. I have seen how our
decisions at the Board level
impact my children and
others and understand that
I have a personal investment
in the Community as
a whole. A well performing
school district will continue
to draw families who
highly prioritize education
and will ensure that the
District outperforms on a
consistent basis both now
and in the future.
