Panalpina launches ‘industry-leading’<br />

‘Game changer’ allows logistics group’s customers to get quotes, book and<br />

track shipments, and manage their supply chains ‘in a seamless digital flow’<br />

Freight forwarding and logistics group Panalpina has unveiled its “game<br />

changer” new state-of-the-art digital customer portal that it claims enables<br />

customers to benefit from a wide range of instant and real-time services,<br />

including getting quotes, booking and tracking shipments, and managing their<br />

supply chains “in a seamless digital flow”.<br />

The company said the portal takes it a step closer to creating “a truly digital<br />

end-to-end enterprise” that will enable it to drive down costs, shorten<br />

response times and offer multiple communication channels to its customers<br />

and partners.<br />

Currently available to selected customers by invitation only, it said the<br />

“industry-leading” portal would be launched globally this summer, enabling<br />

customers “to manage their entire supply chain end-to-end with all partners<br />

in one digital place”, adding: “They can request an instant quote, as well as<br />

book and track their shipments in an intuitive, integrated and thus seamless<br />

flow. Self-service reporting will complement the user experience.”<br />

As features are added, the portal will not only offer interaction capabilities<br />

with Panalpina’s customers, but also suppliers, “and enable: system-based

procurement of services; web and electronic channels that offer Panalpina’s<br />

services and lead to contract closure; electronic channels to exchange service<br />

orders; applications supporting shipment execution and settlement process; a<br />

wide range of integration, visibility and reporting services for suppliers and<br />

customers”, the logistics group said.<br />

Stefan Karlen, Panalpina’s CEO, said: “Digitalization is the number one trend in<br />

logistics and our new customer portal is an industry game changer. Customers,<br />

partners and suppliers will increasingly expect to quote, buy, sell and deliver<br />

online using dedicated platforms and my priority is that Panalpina offers our<br />

customers an engaging, seamless digital experience.”<br />

Panalpina has developed a new digital portal offering a wide range of instant<br />

and real-time services that it describes as “state-of-the-art”.<br />

Currently available to select customers by invitation only, it will be launched<br />

globally this summer.<br />

Customers will be able to manage their entire supply chain end-to-end with all<br />

their partners through one digital portal.<br />

Users can request an instant quote, as well as book and track their shipments<br />

in what Panalpina said is “an intuitive, integrated and thus seamless flow”.<br />

As further features are added, the portal will not only offer interaction<br />

capabilities with Panalpina’s customers, but also suppliers, and enable:<br />

• System-based procurement of services<br />

• Web and electronic channels that offer Panalpina services and lead to<br />

contract closure<br />

• Electronic channels to exchange service orders<br />

• Applications supporting shipment execution and settlement process<br />

Delta Cargo reports customer shift to<br />

Delta Cargo has noted a “significant shift” in the number of online bookings<br />

since it launched its new website in 2017.<br />

The airline said it had noted a 15 percentage point increase in the global<br />

online bookings since 2017, making it the number one way customers like to<br />

book their shipments.<br />

Lindsey Jalil, Delta Cargo’s managing director – commercial, said: “Our<br />

customers have welcomed the improved functionality of the website with the<br />

online booking volumes and registered user site visits reflecting that. We are<br />

focused on continuing to invest in technology and innovating the shipping<br />

process, making it easier to do business with Delta.”<br />

Delta said the improved functionality allows for shipments to be booked,<br />

managed, tracked, or checked-in from any device. There has also been a<br />

substantial increase in the use of e-AWBs, shipment track-and-trace visits, and<br />

online portal registrations.<br />

This year, additional functionality will be added with enhanced tracking to<br />

include real-time visibility if a shipment is within one of the Bluetooth<br />

equipped Unit Load Devices (ULD), as well as live text (SMS) notifications for<br />

booking changes and tracking notifications.<br />

In addition, a dangerous goods enhancement will be launched so customers<br />

can have their shipments, at the piece level, checked against aircraft limits,<br />

station capabilities and Delta policies during the booking process.<br />

The airline was also recently named checked in its report into carriers’ digital<br />

performance. The report said that in terms of online experience, Delta Cargo<br />

was the best in the business.

Award at the BIFA awards. It was a category which attracted the<br />

most number of entrants so was an especially tough category to<br />

compete in.<br />

Held at The Brewery in East London, it was hosted by double<br />

Olympic champion Col Dame Kelly Holmes, Sir Peter Bottomley MP<br />

and BIFA Director General Robert Keen.<br />

CKF Managing Director, Peter Sunderland collected the award on<br />

stage from Dame Kelly. CKF won the award for their Product Logistics<br />

service operated from the new Alpha Park facility in the UK and<br />

JAFZA facility in the Middle East.<br />

It provides a range of freight and logistics services to the FMCG (Fast<br />

Moving Consumer Goods) sector allowing them to become brand<br />

partners for clients. CKF staff were joined by guests from Ella's<br />

Kitchen, Amazon and Standard Brands to hear the winners finally<br />

announced.

From 1st March 2019, the Australian Government introduced increased security measures<br />

around export air cargo from Australia. As a result, before outbound international air cargo<br />

is uplifted onto an aircraft, it must be examined at piece-level.<br />
