Who
Primark was founded in 1969
by the Associated British
Foods.
Their target customers are
teenagers and young adults
(usually students) from the age
of 16 to 35. Their targets are
known to live in urban areas
and have low-income jobs but
still enjoy fashionable and
cheap items.
Where
The store sources their basic products (tshirts,
jeans etc.) in countries in Asia like
Bangladesh, China, India and Turkey. The
garments made in these countries are
priced very cheaply, this, in turn, means,
that there are some ethical issues
regarding wages if labour workers are
underpaid it could be considered slave
labour.
What
Primark sells staple products as well as products
that are following the current trends.
Primark buys 300 million pairs of socks and 150
million T-shirts per annum. This means that they
are buying in bulk, thus, reducing time and
money as well as, having restricted ranges of sizes
of a size 4 to a size 22 (doing this makes them
cost-effective.)
How
When
For the majority of their
products, Primark keeps to the
traditional seasonal trends of
releasing new garments every
3 months. 10% of Primark's
lines use the modern seasonal
trading meaning that there
new garments and products
every other week.
The stores process is held in Spain, after the
selection is approved the buying and
merchandising comes into place which then
becomes designing and sourcing the product,
but not before the planning has taken place.
After approval, the line is then manufactured
then soon after, shipping to their stores around
the world. The products will then go into
warehouses before they are put into stores.
