AINTREE RACECOURSE

With 30 fences and over four miles to race, the

Grand National is quite possibly the most famous

National Hunt race in the world. It's also the

most valuable race in Europe with a reported

prize fund of £1million. Held every year at

Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, it's been

the scene of high drama, stirring triumphs and

memorable achievements; the ingredients for an

inspiring setting to spur on delegates, entertain

clients and impress guests.

The team responsible for pulling everything

together for the Grand National are the same

team at the disposal of event organisers

choosing Aintree for a fashion show, party,

leadership conference or an exhibition. There

are five self-contained grandstands with flexible

spaces, racecourse views and excellent levels

of service. They also make a spectacular setting

for a banquet or a more intimate private dining

occasion. Several of the function suites have a

capacity for up to 600 delegates and for those

smaller style but no less important boardroom

meetings, there are excellent suites welcoming

between 15 and 30 people.

Jockey Club Catering offers a mouth-watering

range of menus, from canapés to five-course

dinners. Supporting local farmers from around

Liverpool and the surrounding region, the team

are committed to using seasonal produce and

working with fair trade producers. Plus they're

happy to work with an event organiser on creating

a bespoke menu to complement the occasion.

doesn't have to be all about the meeting. It's

possible to turn a morning meeting into an

afternoon at the races and to treat your guests

class racecourse has superb suites, vast exhibition

Shortlisted for Best Exhibition Venue under

4,000m2 in April 2018, the flexible conference

and banqueting centre has a capacity of 1,500

guests attending a reception in the Surrey Hall

or 800 delegates attending a theatre-style event.

The spacious Royal Box makes an impressive

setting for mixing a business meeting with client

entertainment at the races. Naturally, the views

over the course are good enough for royalty in

this special space that welcomes 18 delegates

accreditation by BVA BDRC for the third year

Refurbishment of Orchard Lounge

complete at Woodside Hotel

Woodside Hotel in Kenilworth has completed

the refurbishment of its new Orchard Lounge.

The £70,000 refurbishment has transformed

the space to be more contemporary, featuring

the installation of a new bar and drinks feature

wall, timeless wooden parquet flooring, classic

Chesterfield leather and tweed sofas, along

with leather bar seating and high tables. It has

a beautiful chocolate, plum and grey colour

scheme that adds to the warm and modern

ambience of the room, and a new entrance

has been created, directly accessible from the

reception area.

The renovation has been designed to enhance

the experience of both business and leisure

guests who want to eat, drink, meet and

socialise together while at the hotel.

Operations Director, Jerry Toth, said:

“We are really excited that the lounge

refurbishment is now complete. It has undergone

a wonderful transformation and I hope our

customers will enjoy relaxing in the space.”

Kenwood Hall Hotel & Spa

rebrands to Mercure Hotels

Sheffield’s historic Kenwood Hall Hotel has

rebranded to the Mercure Kenwood Hall

Hotel and Spa with a significant investment

in the hotel’s facilities to follow over the next

two years.

To support its move to the new Mercure

brand standards, the hotel will be introducing

key changes to its facilities which include

creating 24 new ‘Privilege’ bedrooms. These

offer guests a refurbished air-conditioned

guest room with a king-sized bed, free

mineral water, magazines and newspapers,

internet, bathrobes, slippers and personal

coffee machines. Alongside this, the hotel's

ten meeting rooms will be upgraded

and have added luxuries such as individual

espresso machines.

Commentating on the rebrand, Garin Davies,

chief executive of Vine Hotels, said:

“The rebrand of Kenwood Hall to a Mercure

hotel is an exciting development for Vine

Hotels. The hotel has the advantage of being

set in 12 acres of attractive parkland yet is

only one mile from Sheffield city centre, so

it works well for both corporate and leisure

travellers to the region. We already have a

strong established leisure market for the hotel

which takes full advantage of this location. One

of our primary reasons for rebranding Kenwood

Hall is to further develop our corporate and

conference markets. With the support of the

Meghan Loach who works at the Best Western Tillington

Hall Hotel in Stafford. The popular venue is home to a range

of meetings, civil marriages and partnership ceremonies

as well as wedding breakfasts and evening receptions.

She tells us more…

What's the best part of your job?

"I’ve had the pleasure of working on over 30

weddings and they’ve all been individually

rewarding. The greatest joy of my role is

being there for the bride and groom from the

planning process of their wedding day to the

magical end result. There’s nothing that makes

me happier than seeing their faces light up

when their wedding day dreams are just what

they envisaged – and more!

"I adore playing a part in planning a wedding

– from dressing the venue to suit a couple’s

personality, taste testing the deliciously

decadent three-tiered cakes (it’s a tough job,

but someone’s got to do it!), to seeing the

happy faces of the bride and groom when their

wildest wedding dreams come true. As I said,

it’s an incredibly rewarding job and I’m proud to

support our couples each and every step of the

way, from the moment they get engaged until

they say ‘I do’ in front of the people who matter

most to them."

What else does your role involve?

"I not only work on the reactive side of the

business, but I also take a proactive approach

in encouraging enquiries and bookings to

you can find me glued to my desk confirming

corporate bookings or meeting with clients to

chat about how we can make their professional

and personal aspirations come true and

networking at local wedding fairs.

"A typical day in the office involves evaluating

and analysing projects and sending reports to

the other hotels that fall under the Hospitality

First umbrella. Once I have reported on what

has happened so far, what’s gone well and what

could be improved on, I move onto checking all

incoming emails. I’ll use this time to prioritise

my tasks and projects for the day, and then

jump into any outstanding tasks."

What do you do on your day off?

"There’s nothing I enjoy more than spending

time with my beautiful baby boy and my

partner. I’m lucky enough to spend as much

time as possible with my little man, so if

you scan the room at a wedding fair and I’m

nowhere to be seen, try Thomas Land! You can

find me feeling queasy on Harold’s Helicopter

Tour for the 1,643rd time!"

email or SMS.

Working with your agreed budget

the best rate or source the best travel

itinerary to get you to your destination

on time.

The booking can be secured to a card

of your choice, with payment taken at

the time of confirmation or on arrival.

For clients using our bill back service, we

will settle your bill and issue a fortnightly

invoice consolidating your billing.
