The new
Revolution
bonding technology
hettinject
How we act today determines how we will live tomorrow!
The challenge is huge. Natural resources are growing scar-
cer, while demand for them from different interest groups
escalates; at the same time people’s expectations are rising.
Rethinking the way we use resources calls for intelligent
technologies with product concepts and products capable of
reducing our consumption of raw materials to a minimum.
Wood is unique. A living construction material of the highest
order with unmatched processing characteristics. To conserve
this valuable raw material, we need innovations that will
allow us to substitute other materials and still create prod-
ucts of comparable quality. It follows that the future of
furniture lies with new materials, such as lightweight board.
Before products like furniture can be made successfully from
innovative materials, the complex demands on the individual
components have to be addressed. Clearly the time has
come to leapfrog the more gradual evolution of connect-
ing systems and to adopt a technology that opens the
way for new materials and a new approach to furniture
design – hettinject.

Innovative
Intelligent
fittings
hettinject
hettinject guarantees extremely high strength. The intel-
ligent bonding dowel channels a precisely metered volume
of adhesive to the top and bottom layers of the honeycomb
core board. This process creates a three-dimensional support
structure that bonds to the outer layers. The result is a highly
rigid construction capable of withstanding both tensile and
compressive forces. The strength is not affected by the type
of material or the thickness of the outer layers. Even light-
weight board with very thin outer layers (< 4 mm) can be
processed.
The volume of the adhesive shot is kept to a minimum for
short cycle times. Curing time will depend on the choice of
adhesive. hettinject – safe and simple.

Huge
Tolerance compensation
safety margin
hettinject
hettinject can be integrated smoothly into work processes
without any extra effort. The bonding dowel automatically
compensates for tolerances in panel processing. The hole in
the board need not satisfy any special criteria. Even irregular
bore holes or holes with drill chips at the bottom affect the
strength only marginally, because the fragments become
embedded in the adhesive.

Bonding dowel
Flexible
replaces frame
Here’s an example: the green
markings in the diagram show
how bonding dowels are used
in a sliding door design.
hettinject
hettinject increases your options – design freedom for
furniture. And bonding dowel technology is a good starting
point. Once the bonding dowel is firmly anchored in the
lightweight board, standard fittings such as hinges, handles
and sliding door fittings can be attached in the usual way.
For the first time, the hettinject process makes it possible to
use new materials like frameless lightweight board in furni-
ture design. hettinject makes the furniture of the future a
reality.
Wherever fittings are needed, a bonding dowel provides a
fixing point.

10|11
Reliable
Automatic
processing
hettinject
hettinject guarantees process integrity. Hettich devel-
oped the fully automated hettinject process to insert and
anchor bonding dowels reliably. The process integrity of
the hettinject process is inherent in the simplicity of the
method; it is also based on empirical values derived from
long-term use of adhesives by the furniture industry.
Processing steps:
1. Drill holes in board
2. Insert hettinject bonding dowels
3. Inject adhesive, precisely metered by
automatic feed control
4. Once the adhesive has cured, attach
standard fittings
The metering unit can be easily retrofitted to an already
installed processing system.

12|13
Easy
Manual
processing
hettinject
hettinject is flexible – for automatic or manual processes.
The hettinject process can be fully automated, but it is just
as successful if the bonding dowel is inserted and the adhe-
sive applied by hand.
Processing steps:
1. Drill holes in board
2. Insert hettinject bonding dowels
3. Inject adhesive using air gun
4. Colour change of the bonding
dowel signals completion of the
injection process
5. Once the adhesive has cured,
attach standard fittings

Amount of adhesive
The tear-out strength is primarily dependent
on and defined by the amount of adhesive
used. The recommended adhesive shot per
dowel is 4 g.
Outer layer thickness
Tear-out strength increases marginally
with thicker outer layers.
Hole quality
Tear-out strength is almost constant,
regardless of whether the bore holes are
cleaned of drilling chips or not.
