FUNDING WOMEN OF THE FUTURE 2019
Dear Friends
We are so grateful to you as friends of College for the encouragement and support that you
have brought to our continuing work together, and in particular to CLC Flourish, our whole
school fundraising campaign which is building such exciting momentum.
The girls who are studying in College today are sincerely appreciative of the opportunities they
benefit from, and are keen to ensure their collective sense of social responsibility goes from
strength to strength, with many choosing to use their knowledge, skills, enthusiasm and vigour
for purposes which bring benefits to a wider sphere of impact beyond themselves.
Your involvement makes a huge difference, and all gifts are sincerely valued, irrespective of
their size. We are committed to developing capable, imaginative and resourceful young women
who recognise that with privilege comes responsibility, and whose values combine a generosity
of spirit with a tenacious sense of purpose. It is hoped these will be foundations from which their
life choices will find resonance for many years to come.
Heritage-listed buildings of beauty and significance form the majority of the College estate,
and their appropriate maintenance requires funding so that our successors will benefit from this
safety and security in the decades to come. This year we also focus on Science-led projects that
foster the girls’ enthusiasm, strengthening CLC’s long-standing reputation in the Sciences.
Thank you for your interest in College.

ANNUAL PROGRAMMES AND PROJECTS
Our Annual Fund enables the acceleration of necessary investments across our estate,
supports small achievable projects, and grows our bursary fund, all of which make an
immediate and invaluable impact on the lives of today’s girls. We are grateful for the
support of all members of our Community to contribute to this vision at whatever level,
large or small.
THE BEALE AWARDS – BURSARIES
We are committed to providing means-tested bursaries for pupils who demonstrate the
academic ability, character and determination to flourish at College. These girls bring
an enriching dimension to College life, and benefit the overall pupil body. Over 50 girls
currently receive some form of financial support, drawing on a funding commitment of
£1.6 million per annum. Please help us to achieve this goal each year and give a lifechanging
opportunity to a talented pupil, whatever her background.
SUPPORT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AT COLLEGE
The Sciences continue to be core subjects for study throughout College. In the Sixth Form,
approximately 80% of girls study a science subject or maths at A Level or IB. Our aim is to
develop an environment conducive to problem-solving and creativity through inspirational
learning spaces, interactive technology and modern equipment.
For example, the ability to purchase two compound microscopes with LCD tablet display
and camera would benefit girls of all ages. They would enhance the girls’ ability to capture
images and share the best examples quickly and effectively with their peers.
Smart TV panels are another leap forward in interactive technology for the classroom.
They are simpler to use and remove the need for calibration or an external PC. Smart
software can be used with the whole class, enabling students and teachers to share
content wirelessly and to read the screens more easily. Our aim is to have one in every
classroom across all disciplines, allowing teachers to concentrate on the girls rather than
the equipment.
HERITAGE-LISTED BUILDINGS
Our heritage-listed estate creates a unique and inspirational learning and working
environment for pupils and staff alike, but it requires constant maintenance, renovation
and upkeep.
Recently we have sought the expertise of specialist stonemasons to remove and replace
items of damaged stonework from the Music Block, rebuilding the unstable gable end and
replacing the finial. This painstaking work is an ongoing project, which will include moulding
repairs to our many stained glass windows, and further stone work.
College spends £150,000 annually on the upkeep of our historical spaces and your gifts to
this area support the conservation of this unique educational heritage.
MAKING A GIFT TO CLC WITHOUT RESTRICTION
These general gifts enable us to complete each of our priority projects. At the end of the
academic year, we entrust the Leadership Team to allocate funds raised to each of the
projects advertised. We report on our results in College literature and on the CLC Flourish
website in the following academic year.
LEGACIES AND BEQUESTS – BELLIS
Would you consider leaving College a gift in your Will? A bequest gives you the option
to make a planned gift and has no immediate impact on your current finances. For a
