Chance to clean
up your backyard
THE DISTRICT council is
holding two community recycling
drop-off days this month in
Malvern and Ellesmere.
The council said it is a chance
to clean-up sheds, backyards
and gardens and drop off garden
waste, scrap metal, tyres, child car
seats and e-waste to a local collection
point.
The drop-off days will be held at
Malvern on April 13 , 10am– 4pm
at Hawkins Pit, Darfield. And in
Ellesmere it will be held on April
27, 10am–4pm, Cemetery Pit,
Southbridge, Leeston Rd.
Prunings, tree trimmings and
weeds will be accepted for a cash
donation.
Loose metals, bicycles, barbecues,
small appliances, whiteware,
tins, pots and pans will be accepted
for free. Clean four-wheeldrive
tyres will be accepted and
child car seats will cost $15 per
seat. Flat screen and cathode ray
tube TVs and monitors, computers,
printers, phones, cameras, stereos
and cables will be accepted.
General rubbish, flax, cabbage
tree fronds, trees or branches over
10cm diameter, gas bottles, items
containing oil or fuel or tyres covered
in dirt won’t be accepted.
Only household amounts will
be accepted.

Young share Rotary success

YOUNG beneficiaries of the
Rotary Club of Lincoln have
come together to share
successes.
The club supported seven
youth programmes last year to
help young people in the area.
At a meeting last month, the
participants of the programmes
presented their successes to the
Rotary club.
Said Rotary club member
Farhad Dastgheib: “Rotary
believes that world
understanding is important
in creating a peaceful world.
Much of the conflicts and
problems that we see have
roots in bias, prejudice and
misunderstanding.”
The club also supported a student
to travel to South East Asia
for a United Nations Trip and
supported exchange students in
Australia.
And 48 people aged 18-25
participated in this year’s Rotary
youth leadership award in January.
It comprised a six day live-in
opportunity to participate in
discussions, seminars, activities
and interactions offered to
young men and women.
The Lincoln Rotary Club

co-coordinated the event in
the northern part of the South
Island.
Dr Dastgheib said the club
also supported the Rotary
national science and technology
forum where year 12 students
returning to year 13 get to spend
two weeks in Auckland, visiting
universities and research
centres.
Students also get supported
to take part in outdoor adventure
programmes such as
Outward Bound and Boyle River
course.

at Lincoln University and
welcomes new members.
