What an amazing year we’ve had and yet, an even more amazing 

year awaits us. We are continuing to grow with new offices 

in Montclair and Summit, and New City and Scarsdale, NY. 

We have now expanded our presence in New Jersey and New 

York to eleven offices total. Our expansion provides us with the 

opportunity to deliver the unique Christie’s experience to millions 

of new potential customers. 

On that note, it is our pleasure to present our new spring edition of

2018 wasavery exciting year at 

Christie’s–can you please comment 

on some of the highlights 

both for the auction house and our 

real estate business? 

Yes, 2018 was asensational year for 

Christie’s with record-setting sales of 

$7 billion led by the historic sale of the 

David & Peggy Rockefeller Collection, 

which was the most significant 

collection benefiting philanthropic 

organizations ever sold at auction. 

Christie’s International Real Estate, 

with Special Properties, was aglobal 

sponsor of this sale, underscoring the 

integration of art and real estate under 

the Christie’s brand. 

Inside of the real estate world at 

Christie’s, we launched our New York 

City brokerage at the start of 2018, 

making Christie’s International Real 

Estate’s New York brokerage the only 

brokerage owned by and operated within 

a global art auction house – directly 

serving those clients whose passions 

range from the collection of jewelry, 

watches, handbags and wine, great 

works of art, to the ownership of the 

world’s most extraordinary real estate. 

We opened our real estate gallery in a 

central space in Christie’s Rockefeller 

Center auction house in New York. In 

2018, we also expanded with our Boca 

Raton Affiliate into Palm Beach, Florida, 

and opened a new brokerage in Aspen 

under the Christie’s International Real 

Estate brand. 

Our global network continues to 

expand. Last year, we invited qualified 

brokerages in Vancouver, Thailand, 

Dan Conn, CEO, 

Christie’s International Real Estate 

Taiwan and La Baule, France, to join. 

Existing Affiliates also expanded into 

new markets, including Ilija Pavlovic, 

who agreed to expand into the wonderful 

Balkan countries of Serbia, Croatia, 

Slovenia, Montenegro, and Macedonia; 

and other Affiliates into Antigua and 

Barbuda in the Caribbean; Tampa 

Bay in Florida; and Queensland and 

Victoria in Australia. We also put the 

finishing touches on Ilija’s expansion 

into Westchester, Rockland and Orange 

counties in New York State, which we 

have just announced and which provides 

us with significantly enhanced coverage 

of the most important communities 

surrounding New York City. 

Another highlight of 2018 of which 

I am extremely proud is our network’s 

philanthropic efforts. Last year, our 

first-ever Children’s Activity Book was 

created to raise money for All Hands 

and Hearts’ Resilient Roofing Project in 

Puerto Rico. This first edition funded 

permanent roofs for four families 

still recovering from 2017’s Hurricane 

Maria. The Children’s Book is available 

at Christie’s offices and salerooms 

throughout the world as a thoughtful 

amenity to offer clients visiting with 

children, as well as at children’s events 

hosted by Christie’s internationally. 

Special Properties fully supported this 

initiative as they do other charities in 

their local markets. 

What are some exciting events and 

initiatives at Christie’s real estate 

coming in the first half of 2019? 

Among the most exciting upcoming 

initiatives is that Ilija Pavlovic has 

opened a brokerage operation to serve 

the important New York tri-state 

markets of Hudson Valley counties of 

Rockland and Orange in addition to 

Westchester County under the Christie’s 

International Real Estate brand. He 

also continues to expand throughout 

important strategic markets in New 

Jersey. His impressive expansion plan 

has seen recent office acquisitions 

and openings in Ramsey, Summit and 

Montclair in New Jersey with more new 

offices coming soon. 

Ilija has an incredible eye for 

architecture and design, which is 

evident, obvious in fact, from his 

masterful renovation of Mahwah’s 

Darlington Mansion. This love of 

architecture certainly contributes to his

team’s success in marketing real estate for his 

company’s clients. He has opened eight brokerage 

offices since the beginning of 2017, with all offices 

achieving dramatic growth in market share in 

their respective markets. These results earned 

Special Properties Affiliate of the Year honors 

at the 2018 Christie’s International Real Estate 

Global Owner’s Conference in Buenos Aires. 

In April, we will bring together the owners 

of approximately 100 of our global Affiliate 

brokerages in Paris to provide the opportunity to 

learn from and network with each other to grow 

their businesses and serve their clients, and we 

will come together for our 2019 awards ceremony 

in the private Hall of Battles in Versailles. As 

always, it will be a great pleasure to have the 

Special Properties team with us as we celebrate 

our Affiliates’ 2018 achievements and look 

forward to another exciting year ahead together. 

We also continue to grow our network with 

new Affiliates coming into the network to 

represent Taiwan, Corsica and Spain’s Costa de 

Sol. We are also working on our expansion into 

The Hamptons, New York, under the Christie’s 

International Real Estate brand.

I wish this magazine were arriving 

on doorsteps today. Inside of the sales 

galleries of 20 Rock when I was walking 

through this morning, we were featuring an 

exceptional variety of collection highlights. 

In the West Gallery, we have the highlights 

of the George Michael collection, which 

will be sold both live and online in March. 

We are also featuring highlights of our 

impressionist, modern and surreal sales. In 

our other galleries, we have Martian, lunar 

and other meteorites; handbags, watches 

and spirits (including some beautiful Pappy 

bottles that would find a welcoming home 

in my liquor cabinet); magnificent jewels; 

a collection of automobiles (two Porsches 

and a stunning Packard); and a collection 

of fashion photography that includes what 

may be the most iconic fashion photograph 

in history, Richard Avedon’s Dovima with 

Elephants, Evening Dress by Dior, Cirque 

d’Hiver, Paris, 1955.

this is a function of my own personal

For cruisers who love days at sea or 

history buffs who like alittle luxury, 

there is nothing like aweek-long 

transatlantic crossing on Cunard’s 

iconic Queen Mary 2. 

The world’s only liner offering 

regularly scheduled transatlantic 

crossings between New York and 

Southampton, this is a bucket list item, for sure. 

If you’re thinking, “What will I do for seven days 

at sea?” you are in for a huge surprise. Ed Sheeran 

wrote his latest album on a transatlantic cruise 

last summer; Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola and 

Jason Schwartzman worked on Isle of Dogs on 

their cruise; Sting performed a set in the QM2’s 

Royal Court Theater; and the cast of The Greatest 

Showman premiered the movie on the ship. 

Even if you don’t plan to be that creative, there’s 

enough to keep you as busy as you want to be. 

There are more than a dozen restaurants, bars and 

lounges, endless nooks and crannies to explore 

and a Daily Program packed with movies, classes, 

games, sports and shows.

Cunard ship, and opting for the westbound crossing

guests (yes, cats are allowed, too), feeding them, 

taking them for walks and taking care of their 

every need. 

During the day, guests can spend as much 

time as they’d like with their pet, who receives

animal even has their own life jacket and a staff 

member assigned to them in case of emergency.

STEAKHOUSE AT THE VERANDAH 

The Steakhouse started out as a pop-up but 

was so popular, it’s taken over The Verandah on 

Deck 8. Servers start by bringing out a tray of 

each of the uncooked cuts to explain the different 

varieties. When you’ve made your choice, they 

then bring out a box of beautiful knives for you to 

choose from. 

If you’re not a meat eater, don’t worry; there 

are plenty of other options, including fish and 

veggie burgers. Be sure to try the sticky bread 

with maple syrup, which is a meal in itself.

on the ship, and the Carinthia Lounge was one of 

mine. 

Not only do they have some great breakfast, 

lunch and small plate selections – plus a bar that

couches and booths to settle in with a good book, 

good conversation and great views.

at sea, featuring more than 10,000 books. There 

are also dozens of magazines and even a daily

gorgeous space, filled with gleaming wood and 

glass bookshelves, comfy couches and highlycoveted

As the world’s oldest auction house, Christie’s has 

long captivated collectors of fine art, antique 

furnishings, bespoke jewels and rare wines. And 

while it would be easy to consider this rarified 

world off-limits to casual browsing, Colin Kemp 

says otherwise. He’s been at the door of Christie’s 

in London for nearly 20 years, offering a warm 

welcome (and free coffee) to all who make their way to the firm’s 

stately global headquarters in St. James’s. 

Christie’s could hardly find a better ambassador than Kemp, 

who was named “Doorman of the Year” in the Mayfair & St 

James’s 2019 Community Awards. “I spend the whole day outside 

welcoming people. The only time I’m inside is when furniture or art 

works are being delivered. I always encourage people to come in, 

look around and enjoy themselves,” he said in a recent interview. 

Christie’s is open to all during its regular business hours, Monday 

through Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In addition, the auction house 

recently introduced Christie’s Lates, a monthly series of free, afterhours 

evening events that combine specialist talks and a sneak 

peek at upcoming auctions with a chance to mingle with art lovers 

and aspiring collectors over food and drinks.

With its diverse assemblage of home sizes and styles, northern 

New Jersey has become a prime setting for local artisans to ply 

their trades. 

“The real estate market is strong, and homeowners are very 

much into the details of home design,” said Jay DeMauro, owner 

of Artique Glass Studio in Glen Rock. “The residents are pretty 

design-forward, and there’s always a lot of renovation.” 

Artique Glass Studio has served area homeowners since 1987, 

specializing in stained glass, leaded glass, antiqued mirrors, 

custom frames, shower enclosures, mosaic, eglomise, and ceilings and domes. 

“Project sizes can range from a single cabinet to a whole house of windows,” said 

DeMauro. 

Ceilings and domes, he added, are not an everyday request, but the company 

has done eight of them, including homes in Wyckoff and Saddle River. In projects 

large or small, the attention to detail paid by Artique Glass Studio’s small team 

of artisans has struck achord with homeowners.

Both northern New Jersey 

firms are staffed by master 

craftsmen. 

“There’s a ‘click and receive’ mentality these 

days,” said DeMauro, “but our customers like the 

fact they’re having something handmade just for 

them.” 

The Glen Rock studio reflects his oldschool 

approach to craftsmanship. The walls 

are adorned with samples of Artique Glass 

Studio’s range of offerings. “It’s a room full of 

suggestions,” said DeMauro. “Customers often 

come in wanting one thing but choose something 

else when they get to the studio.” 

Among the most popular requests in 2019 are 

mirrors, which are being utilized by homeowners 

in more decorative ways. “Mirrors are being used 

in different places, including backsplashes and 

inside cabinetry, and leaner, big framed mirrors 

— not necessarily mounted to the wall — are 

being added to bedrooms and bathrooms,” said 

DeMauro. 

Eglomise patterns in wall mirrors serve as a 

type of “glass wallpaper,” he added. Stained and 

leaded glass can fit most major manufactured 

windows, and homeowners are utilizing them in a 

variety of places around the house, including the 

front door and bathroom. 

DeMauro is also observing a push toward more 

colorful designs in 2019. “There’s been a recent 

history of whites, grays and silvers,” he said, “but 

we recently had inquiries about reds and teals. It 

keeps it fresh.” 

All projects are handled in-house at Artique 

Glass Studio’s two large workspaces, where 

necessary materials and equipment, including 

sandblasters and glass cutters, are kept. 

“We customize each piece,” said DeMauro. “We 

do all of our drawings and patterns by hand and 

make everything by hand.” 

Custom designs and expert craftsmanship are 

the hallmarks of another North Jersey business, 

Cacciola Iron Works, which has provided 

ornamental iron work to area residents for nearly 

40 years in the form of interior railings, exterior 

railings, gates, fences and other custom projects. 

The Paterson-based company was founded by 



three brothers and is now operated by a second 

generation of Cacciola family members. 

“Most companies only do aluminum railings, 

while others only do high-end projects,” said 

Antonino Cacciola, co-owner of Cacciola Iron 

Works. “We do everything. That’s what makes us 

different — we can do any type of metal work.” 

Sixty percent of the company’s business, 

said Cacciola, is aluminum railings, which he 

recommends for exterior projects because they 

don’t rust and are maintenance-free. As for 

interior railings, he recommends iron, stainless 

steel or bronze, as they are sturdier and create a 

more authentic, hand-forged iron look. 

“The style has become more minimal, with a lot 

more linear looks,” he said. “People want quality 

railings without over-the-top designs. We’ve also 

seen a lot more requests for interior glass railings. 

Overall, the style has taken a more modern 

approach.” 

Interior projects often begin with the main 

staircase. “It’s the focal point,” said Cacciola, “and 

sets the standard for the style being created inside 

the home.” 

For the larger homes in the area, Cacciola Iron 

Works offers higher-end brass railings with patina 

finishes, but the style in North Jersey tends to 

be more transitional clean lines that are mostly 

black, rather than gold. Stainless-steel railings 

and French-style railings, said Cacciola, are also 

common in the area. 

“In the early 2000s, big bay houses were being 

built, so the quality of products would suffer 

because the square footage was so much,” said 

Cacciola. “Now the homes are being built smaller, 

so the finishes are alot nicer, as homeowners are 

willing to spend more per foot.” 

In past years, Cacciola Iron Works customers 

were primarily Bergen County residents, but wordof-mouth, 

advertising and social media exposure 

has led to an expansion into Summit, Short Hills, 

Chatham, Mendham and Westfield, as well as areas 

of the Jersey Shore and New York City. Company 

growth has not changed the family’s longstanding 

commitment to customer service. 

“We still make appointments, visit the 

customers’ homes with samples and give estimates 

within a day or two,” said Cacciola. “Most of our 

sales are from customers choosing samples right 

out of my truck.” 

All fabrication is done at the company’s Paterson 

workspace, and finishing work is done on-site 

during installation. 

“Most of what we do is the same as when we 

started in 1980,” said Cacciola. “We just took it to 

the next level.”

That’s something new and different, 

and it’s a pretty impressive

And then there are the surroundings. Often,

commute,” Mazzaferro explains. “That’s what 

people want. They want to be close to work and 

have the proximity to New York, to all the major 

airports.” 

Rentals tend to be one- and two-room 

apartments ranging from 1,000-1,500 square feet, 

priced at roughly $3,500-$6,000 a month, while 

condo properties typically offer two or three 

rooms and between 2,200-2,800 square feet, with 

open living rooms, and can cost $1 million and 

up. Way up. Popular rental buildings include 

The Modern, while Mazzaferro cited The Avenue 

Collection and Nine on the Hudson as hot condos. 

Rivera notes that many renters/buyers are 

young professionals. “Some have families, small 

children,” he says. “We have football players 

and popular social media influencers and a few 

celebrities, plus just local people who don’t want 

to own ahouse anymore and want that luxury 

lifestyle. And there are alot of international 

buyers and renters, too, Asians and Russians. 

Brazilians are starting to become more of a 

player in the Gold Coast area. It’s a nice mix.” 

The Gold Coast, Rivera pointed out, is one of 

the fastest-growing markets in New Jersey. “We 

see no end in sight,” he enthuses. “There’s a 

lot happening there. It’s getting more and more 

gentrified. We’re pulling an audience from all 

markets, all corners. It’s definitely worth taking 

a look.” 

Mazzaferro concurs. “Right now, in New 

Jersey, you can have pretty much anything you 

want, every kind of lifestyle option,” he says. 

“Really, the Hudson waterfront has become the 

sixth borough of New York. That’s what people 

are calling it, and there’s a reason for it.”

tradition of micro-painting, where the 

design on the face is created using a brush the 

width of a single eyelash. 

The company’s culture of innovation 

continues in 2019 with a line of fine

target market, Hotier replied, “On one hand, 

the Ulysse Nardin customer is someone wellversed 

in watchmaking – collectors who value 

the uniqueness of the Freak Vision and Free 

Wheel, and the complexities of how they tick. 

On the other, we have customers who are 

drawn to the design and technology of Ulysse 

Nardin. Typically, this customer already 

owns a classic dive watch or chronograph 

and they are looking to enter the world of 

haute horlogerie and high-tech timepieces. 

Many tend to be drawn to the energy and bold 

designs of our Freak and Skeleton collections.” 

During Ulysse Nardin’s timeline of 

accomplishments, it has been recognized 

with over 4,000 awards for its technology and 

innovation. Most recently, these have included 

the Sport Watch Prize at the 2017 Grand Prix 

d’Horlogerie in Geneva (for their Marine 

Regatta), as well as the Watch of the Year and 

Best Holidays Man’s Watch prizes at the 2017

After five minutes of energetic bidding, the 

near-perfect diamond, previously owned by the 

Oppenheimer family of De Beers Jewellers, 

became the most expensive pink diamond ever 

sold at Christie’s. Swiftly renamed to “The 

Winston Pink Legacy,” the diamond is the largest 

and finest Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever offered 

by Christie’s at auction. 

The stone was given the official grade of 

“Fancy Vivid,” determined by the Gemological 

Institute of America (GIA), meaning it has the 

most saturated and deepest color possible— 

something that can be said of only 0.001 percent 

of diamonds. 

The color of The Winston Pink Legacy, which 

was discovered in South Africa, is extremely 

impressive—and very pink. While most pink 

diamonds exhibit a color modifier like purple, 

orange, brown, or grey, this stone shows 

absolutely no trace of a secondary color. Its even 

color distribution, combined with a balanced 

saturation, tone, and straight pink hue, qualify it 

for the coveted ‘Fancy Vivid’ color grading. 

The Winston Pink Legacy is not only nearly 

perfect in color, but it’s also massive. In the 

Fancy Pink diamond range, diamonds of more 

than five or six carats are rarely encountered and 

fewer than 10 percent of pink diamonds weigh 

more than one-fifth of a carat. In 250 years of 

Christie’s auction history, only four Fancy Vivid 

Pink diamonds of more than 10 carats have ever 

appeared for sale. 

The November sale in Geneva attracted more 

than 4,000 visitors to the Four Seasons Hotel 

des Bergues, with registered bidders from 51 

countries across six continents participating in 

the “Magnificent Jewels” sale. The Winston Pink 

Legacy realized a world auction record forapink 

diamond price-per-carat of $2.67 million. 

Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head 

of Jewelry, explained that an impeccable mixture 

of circumstances caused this rare diamond to be 

so sought-after. “The Winston Pink Legacy is the 

perfect combination of provenance, impressive 

size, and spectacular color, and had never 

appeared on the open market before,” Kadakia 

says. “All of which explains why we had six 

keen bidders battling to win on that evening in 

Switzerland. Rare gems of this caliber show up 



maybe once every 50 to 100 years at auction, 

and stones at this level are almost priceless.” 

Art advisor, Joseph Friedman, representing 

the vendor of The Pink Legacy (before it was 

renamed), said his client is exceptionally 

pleased with the auction result and Christie’s 

expert handling of every aspect of the 

auction. “She is especially pleased that so 

many people were able to view The Winston 

Pink Legacy diamond when it traveled on 

exhibition to London, Hong Kong and New 

York, ahead of the auction in Geneva.” 

The Bulgari Fancy Vivid Blue diamond 

ring, sold at the Christie’s New York auction 

of “Magnificent Jewels” in December, realized 

a remarkable $18,312,500. New to the market, 

it is believed that aprivate family owned the 

superb stone since the 1970s. It was described 

as a “miracle of nature” and may be counted 

among the finest blue diamonds ever to have 

come to market.

she says. “Similar to the Pink Legacy, there 

was competitive bidding in the room, the 

phones, and via Christie’s Live Channel.” 

Blue diamonds attract such extraordinary 

prices because they are so rare and remain 

one of the earth’s deepest secrets. According 

to geologists, blue diamonds were formed in 

the hot layer between the earth’s crust and 

its core at depths reaching 400 miles more 

than 500 million years ago. They develop their 

brilliant color from the mineral boron, which 

is found in the ocean. 

To augment its other fascinating traits, 

Chen says Christie’s feels it may be a much 

older stone “because of the beautiful cushion 

shape and other facet features.” Additionally, 

its size cannot go unstated. “To get to a 

significant size of 8.08 carats is no small feat 

for a fine white diamond,” she explains. “So, 

consider how rare it is for a top-level Fancy 

Blue Vivid diamond.” 

The Christie’s New York December auction 

of “Magnificent Jewels,” at which the Bulgari 

Blue diamond was sold, achieved atotal 

of $69,225,750. The New York auction that 

produced landmark sales concluded Christie’s 

global jewel auction season.

In January 2017, I purchased a second home, a 

historic lake home in Kinnelon – built on the

of Kinney Brothers Tobacco Company. I am 

fortunate to now share time in two distinctive, but

has a rich history and breathtaking topography 

on 65 acres directly on Lake Kinnelon and 

features a 20-room Cotswold-style architecture 

home. What started as a partial renovation 

turned into a 20-month total restoration. But the 

process was exciting and the outcome a dream.

Not far from Manhattan, and 

within a comfortable commute, 

sits the City of Summit atop the 

Second Watchung Mountain 

in Union County, NJ. It is 

considered one of the state’s 

most desirable communities and 

the town’s 22,000 residents are 

likely to agree, as the population and residential 

investment in the city steadily grow. 

Incorporated in 1869, this small, affluent city 

is well-known for its stately homes, highly rated 

schools and vibrant “destination” downtown 

district, which was placed on the National 

Register of Historic Places in 2011 for its 

architectural heritage. On any day of the week, 

the charming district attracts residents and 

visitors to its mix of unique retail shops, service 

businesses and popular restaurants, as well 

as commuters to the bustling NJ Transit rail 

station, located near the Village Green. 

New to the city since mid-March, the Special 

Properties Real Estate Services office at 47 

Maple Street is managed by Robert Gavura, 

regional vice president for Morris, Somerset 

and Union counties. “We thought Summit would 

be a great place for our newest location, one 

that is consistent with the Christie’s brand,” 

said Gavura. “In addition to the energetic 

downtown, there’s accessibility to shopping, 

major transportation arteries and, of course, the 

convenient commute to New York.” 

Gavura is not alone in his praise of Summit. 

Mayor Nora Radest refers to city’s allure as 

“The Trifecta” —aquick, 40-minute NJ Transit 

commute to New York City, great public and 

private schools, and the vibrant downtown. She 

has lived in Summit since 1989 and served for five 

years on the Board of Education before becoming

Another asset in Summit that 

Mayor Radest takes pride in is the 

city’s robust economic climate. “Our 

first-floor, retail downtown vacancy 

rate is just 1.3 percent, which is 

outstanding,” she said, adding that 

“approximately 17,000 non-residents 

commute into town every day to work 

here.” 

Attracting many of those workers 

are several large institution and 

corporate employers, including 

Overlook Hospital, McKinsey 

& Company, J.P. Morgan and 

the headquarters of Celgene –amajor 

pharmaceutical corporation with $13.5 billion in 

2017 revenue. 

Not satisfied with the status quo, though, 

Summit has embarked on an ambitious, multiyear 

redevelopment project that promises even 

greater upside. The city has accumulated a 

10-acre parcel of land in the downtown area 

that currently generates just $200,000 in annual 

property taxes — what Mayor Radest calls, “a 

very, very low number.” The redevelopment 

is expected to increase Summit’s ratable base, 

keeping taxes lower throughout the community. 

The area, as envisioned, will combine 

residential, commercial/retail, office, 

entertainment and open space for 

community gatherings. “Pedestrian 

walkability is crucial,” said the 

Mayor, “and we see these 10 acres 

as a beautiful little hub that will 

enhance the rest of the downtown, 

and create more opportunities for 

people to live there, commute into 

the city or to places nearby.” 

Admirers of Summit typically 

associate the city with stately homes 

and upscale neighborhoods like the 

Memorial Field area or the north 

side of town. But the current stock 

of available housing is as robust and diverse as 

the town itself. Quality properties can be found 

at many price points, from a three-room, $200,000 

co-op, to one-family units in the $500,000 range, 

to a $2 million, four-bedroom home overlooking 

a golf course. The record transaction for Summit 

was asix-bedroom home situated on six acres of 

property located on the north side of town, which 

sold for $8 million in 2015. 

Regardless of price though, Gavura said, 

“Special Properties/Christie’s International Real

REEVES-REED ARBORETUM — Listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places,

headquarters of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. In 1909, it was renamed the Summit Opera House, which

Gavura is excited about this

Andy Emery has been appointed Regional Vice President 

and Broker of Record for Westchester, Rockland and 

Orange counties, New York, by Christie’s International 

Real Estate Westchester and Hudson Valley. Sonja 

Cullaro, executive vice president, notes, “As a former 

branch manager and branch vice president at real estate 

brokerages in New Jersey, Andy brings the knowledge 

and understanding of both urban and suburban

Emery is particularly excited about the opportunity for growth

Emery has more than three decades of industry experience and

New Jersey. Additionally, from 2010 to 2017, Emery served as 

president and as a director of the RealSource Association of

Jacqueline Morales Homes Team recently joined Special Properties 

Real Estate Services. Led by Jacqueline Morales, the team is based 

in the Mahwah Special Properties office and also operates in 

Westchester, Rockland, and Orange counties under the Christie’s 

International Real Estate brand name. 

Morales who has been in the real estate business for ten years 

after spending 19 years at Citibank in a leadership position, 

formed the team about a year and half ago and is thrilled with the 

advantages it provides to both customers and agents. “From the client’s 

perspective, there is always someone to call, always someone who is 

available — the level of customer support is higher. From the agents’ 

perspective, we back each other up and feed off of each other; positive, 

healthy competition and motivation drives the team to succeed.” In fact, 

so much so, they quadrupled their production and were awarded as a 

top producing team for 2017 and 2018. 

For her part, Morales is excited that she has “found my niche in doing 

something that I love, combined with something that I’m good at — 

coaching and mentoring agents to succeed.” Morales grew up in Bergen 

County and has lived in Rockland for the last 25 years. She has always 

been very involved in her community and in philanthropic organizations, 

and in her spare time, she enjoys the beach and reading. However, what 

she “absolutely loves is mentoring and coaching; Jacqueline Morales 

Homes Team is right up my alley.” 

Her son, Nicholas Morales, is also a team member. Morales points 

out that Nicholas is “also the marketing director/coordinator. He thinks 

outside of the box. He has reformatted our listing presentation; he is on 

top of social media and he has given us a new, fresh look. As a result, we 

are getting a lot more first-time home buyers.” 

Joseph Hendrick also brings unique skills to the team. “Joe was an 

inspector, and his experience with home inspection is invaluable; he can 

spot potential issues, and as a result, we can be very proactive. He is 

also incredibly personable. 

Laura Kaspyrzak brings Bergen County market expertise to the already 

formidable team. Born and raised in Ramsey, Laura is immersed in the 

history of that town, and she brings a wealth of knowledge to the group. 

Last, but certainly not least, is the team administrator, Amanda Van 

Dunk, who also happens to be Jacqueline’s daughter. “She’s on top of 

everything. She manages the calendar, greets all the calls and tracks our 

leads. Amanda is the rock; she keeps everyone going.

As active and busy as he is, Koumas

A proud Franklin Lakes resident of more than 40 

years, Suki Peters says, “there isn’t a street in town that 

I don’t know.” 

She and her husband raised two sons in Franklin 

Lakes, both of whom currently live in town with families 

of their own. Peters jokes that her home is “centrally 

located between the two of them,” allowing her to spend 

ample time with her four cherished grandchildren. 

Outside the office, you can also find Peters out and 

about around Franklin Lakes. Among her favorite places 

to frequent are Market Basket and the public library. 

She enjoys playing and watching tennis and is 

determined to master the game of golf. “I’ve always 

wanted to learn, and I will,” she says. Peters has always 

been a “baseball mom,” as well, with two sons who

of that era. I like having a drink and enjoying some Frank Sinatra and Dean 

Martin songs.”

A devoted traveler, Oveissi was married last year in French Polynesia. 

Hawaii and spent her honeymoon in French Polynesia, 

with Tahiti, Taha’a and Bora Bora among the islands she visited with 

her husband. She recently did some island-hopping in Greece, exploring 

Mykonos, Santorini, and Athens, and later in the year ventured down to 

the Caribbean island of Barbados. 

“When I am not working on real estate deals, I’m collecting passport 

stamps. Iam inspired by other cultures, the architecture, the cuisine, 

the lifestyle.” 

Up next is a visit to Cuba with a group of close friends, followed by the trip 

of a lifetime to celebrate her father’s 70th birthday in Africa. “We’re marking 

his milestone birthday with safaris and motorcycle rides through a handful 

of countries. It’s safe to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and 

neither does the spirit of adventure.” 

Closer to home, she spends the fall and winter months going out in 

Manhattan, while the spring and summer are spent down on the water. Once 

it’s warm, you can find her at the Jersey Shore, either hanging out on the 

beach or boating at Tices Shoal. “I’m a total beach bum,” says Oveissi. “If it 

was up to me, I’d be on the beach all day.” 

She describes reading as her “escape,” and tries to read two books each 

month. She also loves cooking, and always immerses herself in the culinary 

scenes of the places she visits. Her specialty is Persian food, but be careful 

about asking for recipes. “I cook with love and I usually wing it, so I can’t 

re-create the dishes I make,” she jokes. “People always ask me if I can make 

it again, and I can’t.” 

At home, she likes spending time with her 100-pound pitbull, Damu. 

GOHAR GRIGORYAN 

Gohar Grigoryan’s favorite activity is 

spending quality time with her family, which 

she defines as having “a presence in my 

children’s lives.” For the mother of three, 

that means being on the go

Family time in Hoboken, where they reside, 

means trips to local parks, the city’s many 

exceptional restaurants, attending school 

activities and arranging play dates for the 

children. Seaside Park is the family’s go-to 

get-away. 

COLLEEN STAFF 

Colleen Staff has always enjoyed 

attending house tours, particularly to 

marvel at unique architecture and interior 

design. And it’s that kind of attention to 

detail that she shares with clients when 

showing a home. 

Located in Special Properties’ Ho-Ho- 

Kus office, Staff has two home bases 

— Oradell and during the summer, Avonby-the 

Sea. When she steps away from her 

career, her focus is on giving back to the 

community. One of her most rewarding 

volunteer activities is serving as president 

of the Holy Angels Parents Athletic 

Association. In fact, Staff’s service at Holy 

Angels was recognized when the Bergen 

County school presented her with its 

Legacy Award. 

The mother of four, ranging from middle 

school to college, Staff is also an honorary 

board member of Julia’s Butterfly 

Foundation, which was established to 

improve the lives of terminally and 

chronically ill children, and their families. 

Staff is also an avid tennis player.

Abarca enjoys 

international travel 

and focusing 

on health and 

wellness. 

The middle child of three sisters, Lorena 

Abarca came to the United States from 

Venezuela at age 9and has never lost her sense 

of wonder about seeing the world. 

In recent years she has traveled to Europe, 

Asia and the Caribbean, and has a trip to 

Mexico scheduled later this year. She also has 

one big trip still on her to-do list. “Traveling all 

around South America is my dream,” she says. 

Locally, she enjoys the social scene in her 

hometown of Jersey City and neighboring 

Hoboken. Among her favorite spots to visit 

is Porta Jersey City, apopular three-story 

restaurant featuring one of the few rooftop 

spaces in Jersey City. 

Health and wellness are priorities for 

Abarca, who does yoga three times per week 

and lifts weights. 

At home, she enjoys reading, recently 

finishing Ryan Serhant’s “Sell It Like Serhant” 

and David Goggins’ “Can’t Hurt Me.” She also 

enjoys Tom Bilyeu’s interviews with top health 

experts on his YouTube channel, “Impact 

Theory.” 

An avid networker, she is a member of the 

northern New Jersey Real Estate Investors 

Association and a regular presence at events 

for like-minded professionals. 

REGINA MARTINO 

Teamwork. It’s how Regina Martino and her husband, 

Michael, best manage their five children, which includes both 

of them volunteering at their children’s elementary school — 

he coaches sports and she handles the teams’ administrative 

functions, including fundraising. They also actively support 

the cheerleading endeavors of three of their daughters who 

participate in cheer programs in the Village of Ridgewood. 

Based in the Ridgewood office of Special Properties, Martino 

dedicates much of her abundant energy to membership in 

several industry associations, including Greater Bergen 

Association of REALTORS®. “These let me help clients have 

a smoother transition in their transactions,” she says. 

Martino and her husband also invest, remodel and resell 

properties in Bergen County, and in North Carolina where they 

have family and friends. 

Always with an eye toward sales, Martino also is a certified 

home staging professional, a skill that prompts “interest in and 

multiple offers on a property.”
