The 25th celebration of Medway Pride Day will be held on May 18th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Medway Middle School. lives with his wife to be, Kristen Rice (sixth generation Medway) who is a real estate agent and their lovely Bernese mountain dog Riggins. April 2019 Medway & Millis Local Town Pages www.localtownpages.com Page 9 15th Annual Millis Beautification Day New Date: Saturday, May 4 It’s a great time to show civic pride by supporting the May 4 town-wide cleanup sponsored by the Millis Lions and Millis Garden Club. It’s the first Saturday in May from 9 a.m. to Noon, with registration and site assignments starting at 8:30 a.m. You can make a difference— volunteers of all ages are needed to help beautify the Millis landscape by raking leaves, weeding, and removing litter and brush at sites such as the Veterans Memorial Building, Millis Library, Clyde Brown School, and Richardson’s Pond as well as along main roads. “The final number of sites will depend on how many volunteers sign up. The more people who register the more sites can be assigned. We hope to have over 200 people,” comments Bill Lawson, Co-Chairman, “and with private citizens volunteering, we free up a lot of Department of Public Works money for other purposes, like filling potholes in our roads! Everyone wants that to happen!” Both individuals and groups are urged to volunteer and will be assigned to sites located all over town. Many students from the Millis public schools – athletic teams, the student honor society, the Millis High School Leos, and students working on community projects as well as all those who simply care about their community—along with their teachers and parents— make a huge impact. In past years, community volunteers have made a big difference in just a couple of hours, cleaning up over 100 cubic yards of brush and trash, which translates to 200 leaf bags, 140 bags of trash, and 5 small dump truck loads of brush and dead trees. Residents and businesses who are not able to participate in the event itself are encouraged to clean and beautify their own street frontage and adjacent areas. “This is a great opportunity to make our town shine,” adds Lawson, “and we all benefit when Compost Bin Order/Registration for Medway Residents The Town of Medway is offering compost bins at a cost of $43 each to any interested Medway resident. Please go to the Town of Medway’s website at www.townofmedway.org and click on the “News” button on the home page. This will direct you to the Compost Bin Order form. Payment is due at the time you place your order. Distribution is scheduled for May 4, 2019 at the Medway Recycle Center, between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. we save tax money. All it takes is a few hours of time on a Saturday morning, and it’s a nice way to meet other good people in the community. So please, everyone, if you care about Millis, bring your work gloves and rakes, join your friends and neighbors and donate a couple of hours on May 4th. You’ll be proud you did!” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the canopy on the front lawn of Veterans Memorial Building—Rain or Shine. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and donuts will be provided, courtesy of New England Coffee, Roche Bros, Dunkin Donuts, and McDonalds. In our effort to reduce plastics in the environment we ask that you bring your own filled water bottles. No plastic bottles of water will be given out this year. Water coolers will be available for refilling bottles. The Millis Garden Club will give away 20-ounce aluminum water bottles to the first 100 MBD volunteers.
